Default GvG Split Idea

Recently i've been screwing around with this build because my guild wants a fun, somewhat new split build to play when we arent BYOB'ing(halls frozen obiously) anyway from what all of us can tell the builds pretty solid(hasnt been playtested yet but looks good on paper) and before we took it on our maiden voyage i thought i might post it here and see what could be changed

I know mesmers really shouldnt be in split builds but my thought on the matter is if we play this well enough and force them to split they're going to have to split thier monks, and a solo monk is going to get completely RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed over by those mesmers, even if it were monk+flag runner with the damage comming off the R/D and ele and the Mesmer's shutdown i dont think they could keep up

the only thing i think could use some tweaking are the monk bars, im really not familiar with setting up viable split monk builds, id like to possibly put shield stance/bash on them but then they would loose the mobility of dash(which id like to avoid)

also, since almost every person on this team has thier own form of self defense, and extra healing comming off the ele's i think this may handle itself well at vod(assuming we for some reason werent able to gank out thier base)

Maybe a hard res would help somewhere on there? I don't know much about split or BYOB teams, but you're relying on base resses and 2 res sigs to keep your team up? Maybe FomF or DPS on one of the E/Rts

Looks like it would be a fun build, though I'm unsure of it's killing power. Mesmer + R/D might eventually get a Monk down I guess.

Tweaks:
- Off-monk condi removal is pretty strong in splits.
- Not taking Blackout on a split mesmer is a crime.
- Shame/Diversion spam hurts a Monk a lot more than a Surge.
- Enchant removal is pretty vital on splits to get monk kills.
- Needed more res sigs.

if pve'ers can have 20 people in a party then damnit pvpers should be able to use 3 professions

Also, jr i agree with most of what you're saying but for some reason i thought rend touch was enough to keep ench's off. Not sure why i didnt think enough to bring blackout on the Mesmer's or GoR for that matter, i suppose i could spec a few into air and run storm djinns if a speed boost is all that crucial partywide and i did agree that it needed more res, but again found myself unsure of where to stick them

Those eles are never gonna have enough energy to use Weapon of Warding effectively.

The mesmer bars are pretty bad as well and I'm not sure if the R/Ds do enough damage to really get kills.

You will definitely need more than 2 sigs as well.

get a wail necro on the offensive team imo instead of ele
and a rit flagger instead of the other mes.

With a 4/4 split you need to be able to swap players from the stand and split teams as needed throughout the game in order to gain an advantage, thats why they are good if played right, they are versitile, yet still strong to a degree 8v8.

I would run this.

You really need 2 monks and a support character to play a split build effectively, the reason being that many teams may opt to defend you with only defense while keeping their offense (i.e. both warriors, mesmer) at the stand. If this occurs you can keep both monks at the stand while the Rit goes to support your warrior and ranger on the split and your E/D can take over running flags, you would have a huge advantage in the flag game and you would still have enough snares on the split (both hexes and condis) to collapse on the stand and powerplay their team. This is just one example of a potential situation and how solid this build is at adapting to different situations.

Funny thing is when {WM} ran that against Lamers they had them specc'd with a 3 monk backline and 2 rangers and they still lost.

Praise for the attempt at being original, but that doesn't look all too solid.


For starters, I'm worried about the lack of knockdowns on melees. Sure, you don't have to have them, but I wouldn't pass on the most powerful form of shutdown on Guild Wars, expecially in a split build and expecially if you play on Frozen, where kd wins games.


Second, as Mitch pointed out, an ele bar without [glyph of lesser energy] AND attunement is a crippled bar (unless you're running [mind blast]). You won't have energy to use [weapon of warding] when you need it the most, and a mesmer will hurt you a lot more than a very active energy management skill can dig you out from if you happen to lose [water attunement]. I like [glowing ice] and I've ran it, but it felt like a very complimentary and "nice bonus" skill, nothing more.


I won't comment about the mesmers much due to my scarce hands-on experience with them, though I find [wastrel's worry] to be a cute idea. [distortion] AND [dash] seems a little overkill, and I'm not too sure about the effectiveness of [energy surge] in a split: if I wanted damage, I'd just save the elite spot and take [energy burn]. Something like [power block] or the ele glyphs suggested above would likely be a better choice. If you wanted to go e-denial you could even try that [drain delusions] guy that was run for a short while when Jade Isle was fixed, but I can't really remember the skills.

Needs some burning arrow, sins, crip ang or frag mes!!!! I dunno I've never been low on energy with those water bars especially when splitting, usually not a mes around then.
