Default So, what';s wrong with Sway?

oki... the other day we were doing some HA and after we got pwned (which we shouldn;t have, but did).... i did the gg.... and pmfg... i got flamed by my team... ie. "u never gg sway, never ffs"

so, i know that people hate sway (and i have never played it. altho i know that it;s mostly a farming build that gets pwned at relics and other maps). so..... what;s wrong with it?

surely it can;t be worse than IWAY, Zerg, Spiritway or any other farming build that has been in and out of fashion over the last year or so???

and, what would be wrong if i wanted to play Sway as an idea of getting a better idea of how good teams beat it? ie. get some inside knowlegde and earn some cheap fame to get into R3+ teams?

surely in a game where there are no rules.... people seem to put up artificial rules taht mean that people should not play certain builds, or even say gg to another team no matter how lame they are? i mean.... isn;t gg a form of sportsmanship? or is only for winners to rub red engines into noobs?

first of all the people who told u not to say "gg" to sway teams are just bad mannered fools...
second of all sway is no different than IWAY, zergway, spiritway, heroway, etc
third of all you dont really need "inside knowledge" about sway, as its a very obvious build... 3 R/Ds with Escape, 2 Trappers(spike and smoke), Expel Hexes Ritualist and 2 N/Rt healers... just keep on interrupting their trappers, really not that hard, all they carry is whirling defense and they're pretty much useless. 3 R/Ds alone wont kill a team with a half decent monk and a little pressure on their non R/Ds will pretty much start a domino of their fall.

Its not "bad" really, people are just poorly mannered or just being bratty. That simple. In all honesty, very little is truly "bad," it's people's opinions that make it bad. Some builds don't work, but that doesn't mean the concept cannot work, just need to fix the build, and yes, some builds work better then others, but again, wether something is "bad" or "good" is mostly opinion. And there is always something better, so something is always "bad" to something else.

People get cut when they lose to it because its considered very noobway, because its so brainlessly easy to run.

Those that say that are just cut because they suck so much they cant beat sway.

atm not much is wrong with sway, but it used to be overpowered. Good R9+ balanced teams were getting rolled by unranked sways...

You forgot to add that their healing is almost useless when all spirits are down. Those are weak and get pwnd by aoe.

There isn't to much wrong with sway, it's just dang annoying.

However I can understand your team since for me 'gg' is no auto-goodbye in pvp. GG as translated to 'Good Game' means I enjoyed a good challenging fight and got out smarted by skillful play ... this is very very seldom the case against a sway. Usually those are lucky wins or rather stupid flaws in your team if you lose, so 99% of the time no gg for sway from me.

Because all they want is fame, so they resort to the most brainless build possible.

Why should you say "Good Game" to something so brainless and people who play for only fame for bragging rights of bambis, wolves or tigers?

Whether or not they're easy to beat, brainless builds aren't worth a gg for me.

Few things a top HA'er will clear out for the few "unllighted" people here:

1) Sway isn't OverPowered (OP), it's merely overplayed, thus the status meta.

2) In HA history, there has always been 3 meta-builds:

-The meta button-bash: Sway, thumpway, zergway, assacasterway, ...
-The meta balanced: Legoway, Hexway, Eurospike, Dual Para Holding, Pressure builds, ...
-The meta spike: Rspike, Ritspike, Bspike, A/Dspikes, ...

Bolded the current meta builds...
If you complain about a meta, you clearly have no HA/Tombs experience. There has ALWAYS been 3 forms of meta at any given time (Except for the first weeks of Tombs, because no-one PvP'ed back then and everyone pretty much ran byob PvE style).
In the past, however, these metas changed alot and quickly. I remember skill balances every month, EVERY month the meta swifted a bit/a lot. No need to tell anyone that sway has been around for about 1.5 years now, but the R/D is relativly "fresh". (2-3 months? So still time to nerf it, tough)

3) SWAY IS NOT OP, IT'S OVERPLAYED. You need 3 things to flawless a R/D way: A Snare, 2 People to spear/wand trappers and monks have the skill level of atleast r3+.

4) Sway never gets a GG from me either. You clearly use it to state the end of the game, regardless of outcome and wether or not it was a fair/fun fight.
I, myself, and alot of other people actually use "GG" for it's original meaning, expressing your feelings about the last match, that it WAS in fact a good/fun match.
Facing sway is a chore, NOT a good match. (Same can be said for legoway, hexway and any kind of Rspike, A/D spike)

Yes, in the last month, I used GG maybe 6-7 times...

5) Sway is brainlessly easy, if you however call them "noobs" from this perspective, look at the paragon in a balanced. Look at the splinter rit, look at the fire ele. Look at the signet mesmer. Look at the D/E conjure Wounding Strike spammer, look at this, look at that.
Sway requires few skill, but I'm pretty sure ANY sway'er can play any of the above named bars at 90-100% efficiency with the same kind of intellect aas if he were to use whilst playing sway...

6) About manners:
-It's a game, if you wanna talk about manners, pm every person who you pass by that doesn't say "Good Day", and set him straight on this "manners" issue...
-At the end of the day, Sway is a degenerative build, and most people playing it ARE in fact PvE'ers who merely want their tiger. It's them who don't give a f*ck about the HA-community, so no, they don't deserve a "GG" look at it from this perspective...

Yeah, I rarely say GG to sway, or anything at all. I like to sometimes give them the benefit of doubt that maybe one person in that team is actually more than a pve farmer and for his sake I just let it go. Everyone once in a while a sway will do or say something that make me fell a little sympathy for them because they're obviously new, and I'll be honest, breaking into HA sucks. So I'll give em a "GG" for encouragement or something.

But I primarily usually use it against non Farmer builds, teams that were a challenge, and enjoyable. When it actually was a "Good Game".

Borat I think you gave us a Gg the other day. Can't remember for sure. :O

Too true. But there is also the rest of the team to think about.

Although they don't really require much skill in themselves, the rest of the team is another thing to point your finger towards.

I believe Sway doesn't have much in that. I did used to play it, and the ease of each of the roles made me feel sad. The N/Rt's could be better if they were a Monk in my opinion though, because of things like Infuse, and not depending on spirits for your MBaS / powerheal.

I use "gg" to show that I enjoyed the match i just played. I won't use "good game," if the match was unenjoyable because they abused game mechanics, skills, griefed or something that made me not enjoy guildwars.

HA unfortunately has and is about getting rank and fame. Because of this desire which makes up "almost" the entire HA community, farming for fame is how most people approach HA. When i used to HA, I wanted to play the builds/ and characters i enjoyed. I had the desire to hold halls with my friends. Unfortunately, many of the people i came up against only wanted to farm for fame, OR ran builds purely designed to make the most fame possible, when they're clearly not enjoyable.

( During 6 man HA i remember those holding paragon builds that tanked all damage on the altar for hours on end, with no enjoyment other than farming rank, to be a rather good example). There's plenty more existant in every meta-game.

It becomes difficult for me to play classes/ builds i enjoy and am good at because, i have to make my build capable of holding, winning death/ altar / relic run matches, along with factoring in counters for "farming builds" (that really only try to make quick fame).

Over time, i'd build a resentment for farming builds because i'd face them all the time, boring and predictable, plus they limit my build range since i'd need certain skill counters to ensure victory. Eventually, i lost interest and stopped playing HA.

I really wish HA was more about winning halls and that rank/ fame emotes didn't exist. I believe that the current incentive system in HA brings about and encourages the wrong type of players. A system that truly rewarded good play, knowledge, experience, and winning on all maps WOULD be a good system in my oppinion. I don't know how to create such a system, unfortunately and neither does A-net. The rank/ emote fame system is clearly not rewarding good player skill. Instead it rewards farming much moreso than anything else. Will good players get higher emotes/ and fame? Of course some will if they farm long enough, but so will people that farmed the system.

I dont get what most people have against sway, in fact, its a good build. Its good for people that want to pug, if they dont have a guild or alliance team doing HA runs.
If you have a decent team, its easily countered, if not, try coming up with a build that does, deal with it.
The only downside is that these kind of builds sway, iway, heroway, are often abused and then you have situations like at the current time, that 80% of teams play sway, which is kind of sad.

Anyhow, I always say gg, even if we lost, hell, I might call the other team all the bad words that exist in this world on vent, but I'll at least stay somewhat polite.

For most people, including me, it's not even the fact that sway is that OP. (Read previous post)
It's also not 100% the "farming"-mentality these sway'ers have, it's the fact that ANET (Izzy) didn't do a single HA-skill-update in about 1.5 Years...

Noone hates facing a button-bash (besides the assacaster, close to the most OP single-bar button bash build ever), ALOT of people hate facing a button-bash 95% of the time...

I mean, HA is supposed to be fun, isn't it? Well, when U face EXACTLY the same build over and over again, it becomes routine. (Undeniable) Now, when this routine is the only way to your victory (so you're forced to play that way, and U have no room for variation), "sway" pretty much forces all the non-sway'ers to play in a certain way, over and over again.

People like innovative and "fun" builds. (Check my build section for a sheitton of these builds) However, the reason WHY you want to run these builds is obviously for fun. Now facing sway (or any gimmick for that matter) over and over again, disableing you from even getting anywhere with the build (because these gimmicks more often than not steamroll over any non meta builds, simply because they are all current OP skills/mechanism thrown into a build), aswell as facing the gimmick itself simply isn't fun, at all.
