Talking PvP bows

Im starting to get into some PvP because im sick of farming and trying to finish all campaigns with all my characters. As said in the title...obviously im a ranger in need of PvP bow information. lol

So I looked on PvX to spark some ideas, I liked the Cripshot build I found...
Whats the best interuption bow? (recurve, short, etc) And I never see "shortbow" why is that)
Whats the best Snaring bow?(Im guessing lowbow, but I could be wrong because of flight time)
When I Kite, should I be Snaring? (What bows do I use for both Kite/Snare at same time)
And what else can you tell me about the bows I bring?

I see in PvX a lot "Vampiric bow" Why would I want a vamp bow in PvP? lol
Anything obviously would probably help me.

Thanks

I've played a Ranger primary for three years now and FWIW here's my 2 cents:

I prefer a recurve for most PvP sitauations. The flight time of the arrows is the shortest by far of any bow:

Flight times:

Recurve: 0.40 sec
Longbow, Flatbow, Shortbow: 0.59 sec
Hornbow: 0.88 secs.

The arc size is the smallest of all the bows:

Arc Size:

Recurve: small
Longbow, Hornbow, Shortbow: medium
Flatbow: large

Why is arc size significant you ask? The higher the arc, the easier it is to see the arrow and strafe away from it. Conversely a lower arc is harder to see, hence, tougher to move away from.

The range is not bad...almost as long as a longbow:

Recurve, Hornbow: 1.4
Longbow: 1.6
Shortbow: 1.05

Where 1 = approx. the distance of your aggro bubble.

The one slight downside to a Recurve is the refire rate. It ain't the fastest and faster is better for interrupting:

Recurve, Longbow: 2.4 sec
Shortbow, Flatbow: 2.0 sec, which is why Keekles likes a Flatbow for NPC sniping, I assume.
Hornbow: 2.7 sec

As far as mod type...it really depends on your build. I personally think Sundering is a waste of time becuase of the low (20%) activation chance and besides, in most cases arrows don't do enough damage to see a great difference if the +20 AP DOES happen to kick in, especially if you're interrupting. I tend to like a Silencing string if I'm running a Broadhead Build, and a Poison string if I'm carrying poison. Obviously a crippling string if you use a Cripshot Build and a Fiery if you're using Kindle Arrows and Conjure Flame. I've never found much use for a zealous string although some folks like the energy it provides. With a full radiant armor set I usually don't have energy issues. Vampiric is good for the 5 life stealing and if your Mos are any good at all the effects of the health degen are easy to heal.

As far as grips I prefer the Armor Boost (Of Defense) over the +30 HP (Of Fortitude). Some specific builds benefit from an (Of enchanting).

Anyways...this I what i like, YMMV.

Cheers

Reported for abusive guild name in comment LUL.

I like having a crippling recurve as well for pushing flaggers and whatnot.

Personally for my 4 weapon sets I have these as default.

#1 -Crippling Recurve Bow of Fort +5 E
#2 -Poisonous Shortbow of Shelter 15^50
#3 -Vampiric Flatbow of Fort 15^50
#4 - Shield and Spear Set of Fort.

You want the fastest arrow speed so its more difficult to dodge on recurve, shortbow should be poison for faster spread, your flatbow should shoot the hell out of NPC. Shield set is just too good to have on tab any prof imo.

Shortbow isnt bad if you have a ranger trying to d-shot your crip shot but you need a recurve these days to hit anything with the bad pings everyone gets.

So far this is what I have deducted...

RecurveBasically your 90% of the time bow. "Pwnage bow"...lol

Lowbow/FlatbowNPC Raping

Shortbow Spreading conditions (i.e: Poison, burning) ?NOT SNARING?

Shield/SpearKiting from what I understand.?mods on these should be?

I might have read over something (probably did) but again I liked the "Cripshot" a lot...

So I need to know what bow I should use for snaring.

Is there anything I am missing?

(My next post will look like this too...I guess the first 4 bolds would be my weapon set. and asI start understaning more, I will throw my finished modded weapon set in there)

Thanks again

Longbow/Flatbow basically use as needed, if the enemies are far away, npc raping as you said, etc.

shortbow can be used for snaring, but generally for a ranger its dangerous to get that close unless your sure of what you're doing - usually use it if you really need to dshot that one skill and need a shorter flight time to do it

recurve is generally your safe bet for snaring so that the enemy doesnt dodge, but use as necessary. snare from a long range? longbow, enemy is kiting well? recurve. etc. etc.

for the shield spear you just want +30's on both of them (hp), some people take a +armor shield and sit on that when taking damage, then change to a +30 when they get low on hp

For Cripshot:

1. Spear/shield

15%/-5e, +30hp poison spear
+30hp, cripple reduce shield (secondary shields with vs piercing, vs slashing, etc)

2. a) crippling, 15%/+5e, +30hp recurve
b) poison, 15%^50, +30hp recurve

3. a) poison, 15%^50, +30hp longbow
b) poison, 15%^50, +30hp shortbow

4. 5/-1 vampiric, 15%/-5e, +30hp flatbow.

Set 1 is your kiting set for damage reduction, lower energy, and higher health. Sets 2 and 3 are largely based on preference. If you're going to be at the stand alot, spend more time in the poison recurve set. If splitting, swap to crippling recurve. Set 3 is fairly situational. You'll spend probably 90% of your time in a recurve unless you spend the entire match soloing npcs. Set 4 is essentially only for ganking npcs, since most either don't move (archers, bodyguard, guild lord), or don't kite such that you can hit them with a flatbow anyway, especially with a cripshot (footmen/knights). Not to mention, on most maps, you can hit the guild lord with a flatbow/longbow without taking return fire.

Do these options change if you run Burning Arrow, Magebane Shot or Broad Head Arrow? (ok, you probably won't need the crippling one, unless you run Pin Down, but is there any another bow type used with the above mentioned elites?)

i generally run with two recurve bows on swap.

1: crippling/poison recurve, 15^50, +30hp
2: defensive set with axe+shield
3: crippling/poison recurve, +5e, +30hp
4: flatbow/longbow, vampiric, +30hp

the reasons for 2 recurves are simple: it allows me to quickly swap to +5 energy in case it runs out (on pushes, it does happen), as well as allow me a second condition mod whenever i need it.

for instance, if i'm playing a BA ranger with pin down, i can use a poison recurve as my main, and swap to a crippling recurve to take advantage of the longer cripple and +5e.

In set I have:

#1 poison recurve, +15^50, +30
#2 shield set, +5e +30 spear, +30 shield with "riddle of steel" inscription (axes, swords, scythes, some daggers).
#3 crippling recurve +5e +30. It's worth it to switch to this when you really need that extra amount from pin down particularly. Without a cripple I carry a longbow in this slot
#4 vamp hornbow

You also want some backup +5e bows for dp crunch should that happen and maybe a longbow if you think a derv is going to be dumb enough to activate an avatar that close. Another shield vs. cold damage might not be a bad idea to have in your inventory for skirmishes with water eles too.

An easy trick I do with my Logitech G5 mouse is I have the mousewheel that can tab left & right as buttons set to swap between my primary bow and shield set. This makes swapping between the two very easy for kiting which really makes a difference when you are desperately trying to get away from a derv, cripslash or axe warrior.

Using a crippling recurve is a good way of losing your cripshot/pin down to d-shot/d-chop/cry etc.
Any non retard will try and interupt your snares on key moments, so use a shortbow.

Mostly the same but last time i use +5ene crippling recurve as a 'last chance pin down' set, instead of a longbow. And tbh never use shortbows for spreading conds coz ppl will just dodge 80%of your attacks + u wont be able to interrupt effectively if u see sth important while tabbing.
