They have a K value of 25, so they accelerate you more than the ladder, but the competition is higher (presumably)

If you beat a guild around your rank, it's a +12 or so, making it pretty easy to get a lot of rating if you are below 1k rating.

Yup, but now you have the problem where certain guilds have afk'ed so much that if they bother to AT and you face them, your rating gain becomes much less, pretty awsome eh? Then again like I said in my previous post over 90% of the guilds that were afk we'll never see again, or we will see a few if they haven't heard of this update yet.

Was mostly talking about guilds like TAM who are PvE guilds that want to get into ATs. There's still motivation to do the AT since one or two decent ATs can get them onto the ladder.

This was the most obvious and simple change they have made in awhile. If you can't beat guilds that are around the rank 1,000 level, you have no place to be playing in tournaments. Both ATs and mATs were designed to support the highest level of competitive play and the reward point system was designed to complement that. If the 2 weeks already required to AT aren't enough time to practice and make it onto the ladder, more time should be spent practicing, not jumping head first into competition that you are not prepared for. What the PvP community needs are players that are dedicated to playing because they enjoy the competition and are dedicated to getting better, not players that play for money and rewards. That being said, they have not stopped guilds below the rank 1,000 level from playing (like they certainly could have). You can still play and if you win you will easily gain that rank and will be rewarded for it. If you lose under the old system you would have gained 15 reward points, which not only caused the afk guilds, but also encourages players to do ATs even if they are getting ghettostomped, which doesnt promote improvement. Under the current system you don't gain any rewards which encourages guilds to go practice on the ladder before trying again. Good fix.

The most obvious and simple change would have been removing the reward for just showing up. But when was the last time Anet removed something that was a bad idea? (honest question actually, has that ever happened?)

That should cover your questions about K values/rating change.

I already pointed out the incentives this update should give, and do you know how many people would complain if they gave out a reward, and then took it away? It would be a nightmare they are trying to avoid.

Simple solution:

1. Everyone gets a pool of +20 RPs at the beginning.
2. You can /report an AFK-guild.
3. Random AFK-guild gets -10 RP from it's pool if reported.
4. If you are the only guild that /reports another guild, you get -10 RPs from your own pool. Pool can't go negative.
5. Cookies.
6. Noone get's screwed except AFK-leeching-bitches.

Every guild would just report every other guild.

Awsome idea! I'll start recruiting guilds for our report-other-guilds-alliance straight away!

How about just leave it the way it is? It is fine giving RP to only Rating 1000+ Guilds. You should not get RPs for showing up, you should only get RP for being bad. Look at the olympics. Do people get a medal just because they showed up? Do they get a medal for last place? No.

If medals were given for coming last I'm pretty sure you'd see people stand without moving on the starting line of the 100m sprint just so they wouldn't have to expend effort.

If you're having trouble getting a spot on the ladder, not receiving RPs for participating in an AT should hardly be concern for you.

Why would you do that? There is no rational reason.

Yeah and for the same reason people joinspike RA to double-/report other people. Except they don't.

And if you really have such a dull life and want to invest so much time to screw other people, fine! At the end they only lose 20 RPs - which means it's the same as a zero-RP-solution.

People would do it for the same reason that they are still entering AFK guilds into ATs even though there are no rewards.

But there are rewards atm. You get 15 RPs for sure. Which means 60 RPs per AT if you have just 4 accounts. Which means 500-1000$ each month. Now, that's a good motivation of you ask me.

With the solution above there would be no motivation, except to srew other guilds. With the backdraw to waste alot of money on your energy-bills. Now, which non-stupid individuum would do that? Makes no sense.

There are NO rewards at the moment for 1k+ guilds, either for playing the whole tournament OR winning any matches. Thats precisely what the update did.

As far as the comments about "1 or 2" good AT's will get you a decent rating, if it were that easy then there wouldnt be a problem. Remember you are going to be losing rating every "bad" AT you have.

I will never agree that one group of players get a reward for turning up and winning, when others dont. Level playing field please Anet.

Although I still prefer my 2 division idea, if that was a no go then I have to agree with holymasamune and remove the turning up reward completely for everyone.
