Run for shrines to cap, then fight people along the way stopping you from reaching the shrine. Simple really. It annoys the hell out of me when I see people resurrecting, only to run into the mob for a fight, whilst the opposing team makes their way around to capture empty shrines. AB is all about capping shrines, and if you want to fight others in a more fight orientated PVP style, there's plenty of other PVP games to play.

1. Favorable map vs. Unfavorable map
ill probably fight more on a favorable map since i find fighting more fun than capping and its easier to quickly cap shrines if your losing on a favourable map
2. Class type/speciality
i normally fight lots when im playing assassin, cap lots on my ele and on mesmer/ranger try to subdue opposing capping teams with cripshot/hexes
3. Losing vs. Winning
fight more if winning. stop them from capping.
4. What to do if someone is capping behind you?
depends on overall size of group, if its a solo capper usually ill try and take him but if its a group ill normally take 1 out then leg it.
5. When will you fight? When will you cap?
the bigger advantage i have, the more i fight.
6. Over all rating importance (opinion) 1-10 1 being least, 10 most
capping 8 fighting 7. capping is overall more useful but fighting is way more fun.

A problem I've noticed is this mindset that a lot of groups have of either being in 'fight' mode or in 'cap' mode. Sure they can switch in-game but acting like robots and just sticking with 1 idea isn't the best way to do it. I think groups have to be more opportunistic and kill anyone they can and cap anything they can, not just one or the other. Not just look at the score and decide now is a good time to start killing instead of capping or vice versa. Letting entire groups pass (especially at thew start) just because you're in 'capping' mode and you avoid fights just ends up hurting your side more.

So the problem in my opinion with groups in Ab is not so much they they don't do enough of fighting or capping but that they're not fluent and opportunistic enough and keep those two ideas too seperated.

If you play well, fighting and capping is the same thing, think about it.

You should be able to do both - cap, and then fight in order to defend that cap if necessary. What's the point if you cap a shrine and the enemy cap team hop over, slaughter you (because you can't fight) and then recap the shrine?

And you have to cap, too, because mobbing generally means that some happy enemy team will cap around you and can win by shrine attrition.

I think the key to winning any AB match, especially on an unfavoured map, is knowing when to fight and knowing when to cap.

That's exactly it, but then you get these teams that have no thought when organizing a party into AB, so when a little battle is necessary, they can't compete.

lately when me and a few friends go into AB, we will cap our side and end up fighting for the rest of the match. Really just depends on how the other groups are in your AB.. if they can hold their own then its ok to take out teams as they leave the base.. i'll cap if i need too =P
