Um. That bar is pretty much all anti-melee, something that is generally better to load on a necro or ele. In most cases you'd be much better off taking an anti-caster build to shut down enemy monks and other targets of opportunity.

On a more advanced level, you should adjust your bar each time to match the rest of your team. Your team has a ranger who can suppress casters? Bring an Ineptitude build (not necessarily the one above though, at least drop the Breeze). Your team has an ele who can suppress physicals? Bring a Migraine build. Have a Warmonger's Weapon enabled melee character in your party? Bring Frustration and watch him tear enemy casters like hot butter.

Edit: also, I would like to bring more energy management than just Drain Enchant.

Imo replace Breeze with [[Ether Feast], its not a bad heal at all and it means you can spec much heavier into your Mesmer attribute lines, with that in mind [[Distortion] isnt bad to keep rangers and warriors off your ass.

You would also benefit from an interupt, now you've specced into inspiration [[Power Drain] would be some nice energy management.

Those attributes look pretty spot on.
Mesmer as a class can take a lot of work to play effectively, interupting is (unfortunately) all about experience, you have to know when the enemy will cast a spell. With this in mind it might be beneficial to focus on necros and elementalists in order to get used to interupting longer casting spells, other casters such as monks, rits and mesmers are often a lot more difficult to catch without the knowhow of when they will cast.

Some things to look out for:
1) A knocked down monk just getting up will most likely try to cast as soon as they get up.
2) A kiting monk taking pressure will stop before casting.
3) A ranger who is suffering from a condition will sometimes use natural stride before attempting to mendtouch to ward off melee and ranger interupts (but that won't stop you!)

theres tonnes more, im sure people can give you much better advice than me .

Build #2 was my absolute favorite, but it got nerfed in 4 consecutive updates at one point. Fortunately, build #1 is effective and versatile enough to replace it. With smart play you do not need a run skill. Most mesmer builds can shut down characters, but they generally lack damage. But with these, you should be able to hold your own and come out on top in many 1v1 situations, and you also have the ability to solo several shrines.

[build prof=Me/? dom=12+1+1 ins=10+1 fas=8+1][Energy Surge][Cry of Frustration][Shatter Enchantment][Empathy][Power Drain][Power Spike][Drain Enchantment][Ether Feast][/build]

You could try Overload or Energy Burn instead of Cry of Frustration, but I ended up preferring the hard interrupt for assassin combos / bull's strike / troll unguent etc.

[build prof=Me/? dom=12+1+1 ins=10+1 fas=8+1][Enchanter's Conundrum][Shatter Delusions][Shatter Enchantment][Empathy][Power Drain][Power Spike][Drain Enchantment][Ether Feast][/build]

Before the damage from EC became conditional on whether a target was hexed, you could solo everybody on the map including WoH monks, though usually it was a race with teleporting assassins. With both builds, it is highly satisfying to dismantle dark bond, aura of the lich minion masters or any ele with covered attunements.

Run skills aren't needed in AB to kite from players, there's indeed many players that can do that without a run skill. Traveling from shrine to shrine however is best done fast, else others will have an advantage on you.

[glyph of energy] + [gale]

That combonation with some other dom skills never really gets old.

I play SoI mesmer in AB all the times now.
+13 Fast Cast, +16 Illusion. Put on Prodigy's Insignia for +15 armour while recharging 3 skills. Use +7 vs physical weapon (e.g. Vokur's staff or similar).
You would be having a nice 82 armour against Physical most of the time.

Use Clumsiness and Wandering Eye against Melee chars. Noob Sins, Warriors and Dervishes who see you as a squishy target and try to take you out in solo would kill themselve rather quickly. Use Backfire on targets that uses buff spells especially most Dervishes or sins. Wammo is a good backfire target too. Most Sins are predictable, put Backfire on them when they try to escape, they always cast Shawdow Refuge on retreat. Use Chruning Earth to add damage and for knock down if they try to use speed skills to escape.

Use Fire Storm and Churning Earth to capture Shrines - add Clumsiness and Wanderign eyes to finish off. The build can capture all Shrines solo except the Ele shrine (doable without the Elite ele NPC) and shrines with an additional Elite NPC. With Elite NPC (probable 30% HP left) you may have to cast your spells again to finish them off. Most of the time you would not have the luxury to wait for your skills to recharge before someone attacking you.

Use Backfire and Drain Enchantment against Casters. Good enough to temporarily mez them from healing or doing damage. The noob ones still kill themselves in AB uncluding Dervishes. Cancel Backfire and use Drain Enchantment first to remove Holy Veil from the monk if necessary.

Use Drain Enchantment and Ether Feast to gain energy and health. With +16 SoI both spells are good. There are plenty of enchantments in AB, tab around to find eles, dervishes, sins. MM's, Wammo's, and monks.

The build has no effective counter against toucher or anti-caster sins. Just run away (not always successful as they also stick to you like a fly after you kill off their monk or other team members). Other Mesmers and good interrupt rangers can pwnd you. Sometimes they would also gang up on you after you had annoyed them.

these days i mostly run power block. i can drop it on a damaging caster like an ele and ignore him for 14s while i focus on the monk with diversion,shame,pleak,p-drain,shatter/drain enchant, etc. i used to run migraine more (and its still my fav), but since patient spirit has become so popular, i've found it's just easier to divert and shame him

PB owns in ab, it's very easy to block eles, necs and some monks that run 1s healing prayers skills. Unfortunately most of the dom mesmers in ab are awful waffles that run crap like echo backfire, e-dom and now visions of regret with wastrals spam.

Every mesmer i see in AB runs visions and wast.

And if you want to run something other than interrupt and play a mesmer.. try playing around with signet of midnight for melee shutdown and bring a few caster shutdown skills >.>

Yeah, [signet of midnight] works very well in AB and it is always fun to have a person start flaming .

This is what I usually use for annoying purposes:
[build prof=Me/N dom=11+1+1 ins=7 fas=11+1 curses=5][Power Spike][Power Drain][Plague Sending][Signet of Midnight][Diversion][Symbolic Celerity][Backfire][Rend Enchantments][/build]

[Symbolic Celerity] is of course the "optional" skill, (Don't like knowing that a hammer warrior's [devastating hammer] is faster than [signet of midnight].) [power spike] could be replaced for [Arcane Thievery] to steal away a R/Mo's [Mending Touch] and hold the blind or whatever else to be annoying, and of course [rend enchantments] could be switched with [Gaze of Contempt] (always nice to have a strip).

I only play in groups with a competent monk, so don't give me that "zomg no self-heal" crap.

As an alternative to PB this is a new (post buff) build I made for shutting down 2 or more casters simultaneously:

[build prof=Me/R fast=8+1 illu=12+1+1 insp=10+1][Arcane Conundrum][Frustration][Conjure Phantasm][Shrinking Armor][Distracting Shot][Tease][Power Drain][Drain Enchantment][/build]

Works best in conjunction with a monk and another player providing melee hate. Remember to use a recurve and check line-of-sight when Dshotting that WoH.

I started running a mesmer in AB like 2 weeks ago. And I completely fell in <b>love</b> with them now. Before I never really considered ever playing one, but their versatility in AB is amazing.

I ran a pretty decent build, works for me and pisses of alot of casters and can survive a few melee-ers. (If they suck a little, it helps to )

Me/D
Domination -16 (sup rune and headpiece)
Earth prayers - 8
Inspiration - 7
Fast Casting - 8

vital boon
mystic regeneration
Power Block [Elite]
Backfire
Empathy
power Spike
Power Drain
Leech Sig

Pretty self-explanatory I guess. EP and mystic for health regen against most stuff. Works rather well if your not under alot of pressure. Power Block, at 16 Dom, should have a caster, if you interrupt correctly, out for at least 16 seconds. Good to hit fire eles in Ab with. Back fire and Empathy to screw up casters even further and to make melee people back off. Powerspike to push the caster from almost dead to the grave. Powerdrain and Leech Sig for extra energy when needed.

This build aint the best but it does a decent job of shutting down casters, mainly eles and necs. Works so-so against melees but not if your directly in their target. Makes fire eles with meteor shower hate you, and MM necs get ruined easily. Wathc out for mass degen like fire and bleeding + DW. Dont be soley targeted by Wars, Dervs, Or sins they'll mess you up, mostly.

Not bad, works for me. Comments and advice would be lovely. Flames, not so much.

Too many interrupts (mesmer != ranger), no enchant removal and you're not taking advantage of the best dom skills, diversion and shame. Diversion and shame alone will take care of most monks. Enchant removal is good because there are some monks in ab that will pre-veil, you need to remove that. There are plenty of other enchants worth removing as well.

[build=OQZkkMDpADkUBQOgHwMgQARAKQrA]

[build=OQdjMkCMQSFA5AeAzACBEBoATQA]

Depends on whether you want a snare or speed boost. Cry of Frustration is very handy at shrines when npc's all activate their skills at the same time and it does some AoE damage. Spirit Shackles will hurt dervs and rangers a lot more than empathy, warriors not so much usually. Drain enchant and ether feast is all you need for self heals, little e-management too from drain.

Well, someone already addressed the build itself, so I'm going to comment on the attributes. You really don't need a superior rune. With a minor rune you still have 14 seconds of shutdown. I'm tired of seeing the players with too little hp when I monk. So lose 2 seconds for that 75 health, it really helps. No more of this 450-480hp please..

Aside from that, like arienrhode had said, too many interrupts. Familiarize yourself with [Diversion] which can be your favorite skill.

yeah i see what you guys are saying about the too many interrupts
there was alot of times when i ran through my entire skill bar of interruptions in like 6 seconds, and had far too much downtime to let those skills recharge.

mesmers are too uncommon for my taste in AB. There has been an increase in the amount I've seen, but no where near what I'd like to.
