Default PvP Class?

I was thinking of making a pvp only char, either a Dervish, Assassin, or Paragon.

Which one is the best?

I want to kill, but I also want to not die as soon as i come under fire.

You do realise you can delete a PvP-character without losing anything?

[wounding strike] and either [conjore frost][conjore lightning][conjore flame]

and then just mask the shit out of things.

There is no 'best'. Try the one that fits in the team you play in.

i'd go with dervish too.. they kill and, unlike the assasins, they don't die easily because the dervish's life does not depend on critical defences

So you want to be able to do BIG DAMAGE and be able TO TANK BIG DAMAGE.

This is PvP, NOT PvE, change your mentality BEFORE you start PvP'ing... The biggest problem about PvE'ers in PvP, is their mentality. Altough there is some OP and UP builds, there is NO ultimate build that will get you auto-wins.

Builds also highly rely on WHAT kind of PvP:

AB (Which can be concdered extended PvE): ANYTHING goes, really, ANYTHING
RA: Anything with the least bit of effectiveness goes. (Wammo's, flarespammers, it all works fine, as yourteam is random anyways, and usually it's Monk = win)
TA: All about the build to you have.
HA: Alot about build, but people will ping you the bar, and a little build skill/experience
GvG: Alot about build, a little bit build/experience, but more than in HA
HB: lol

Out of those I like Dervish the most. I also go with a simple build as wounding strike plus a conjure. One such dervish alone can already put lots of pressure on a monk in RA ...

Disregard this post, its ****ing drivel.

At topic:
Its not really a matter of which proffession you choose. If you have aspirations to become a serious pvper, think to what area you are best in pve:
Do you enjoy being a warrior, assassin, or dervish, going to to the thick of the fight and dishing out the pain?

Do you enjoy being a paragon, ritualists, mesmer, necromancers, or ranger being not quite in the fight but still getting some action, and helping your team?

Or do you enjoy monking?

PvE is very different from PvP, but if you pick the area that you most enjoy(frontlining, midlining, or backlining), and work at it, you can become skilled enough to start to meet better pvpers who can show you how to become a really good player. Also, when you first start out in RA and AB, its best to disregard what everyone says to you. 90% of the time, they are just as bad as you, if not worse, so their advice is as crappy as the post i quoted. Eventually, you'll begin to know the difference between good advice and bad, and once you do, you'll see the community is pretty helpful.

Surprise, surprise.

On Topic:
To answer your question: I'd go Dervish for a start, you can get familiar with a melee range class which works in all formats (Small scale RA/TA/AB or Big Scale HA/GvG). Paragon needs a party of 8 and most of the time another Paragon buddy around to work properly. I wouldn't recommend Assassin's for a start, they are a lot harder to play effectively then their 1,2,3,4 bashing reputation might suggest.

Have fun.
Oh and yeah, you can delete them without losing anything so you might just wanna try them all.

Warrior or monk. If you're bad at both, midline!

Please post questions about characters for RA in the RA thread, and questions about characters for AB in the AB forum.
