Talking Smiter Fighter - Zero energy build

Hello all,

This is my first build post here, but I thought I'd share a fun AB build. I tried searching for similar ones but got nothing, so here goes.......

Had a good time yesterday in AB, as a monk, but not your average monk.

I usually play a warrior in PvE, so you might understand where this comes from, the main idea was to get [Holy Wrath] into a useful build. Turned out I used another skill that doesn't get to see the light of day either.

[build prof=Mo/W smiting=16 tactics=9 swordsmanship=9][retribution][holy wrath][strength of honor][symbolic strike][signet of judgment][signet of mystic wrath][healing signet][purge signet][/build]

Weapon = Furious, +15% when enchanted, Armour +7 Vs pysical
Offhand = R9 tactics sheild, +45 hp while enchanted, +10 armour Vs fire or slashing

All armour is blessed insignia with Superiour Smiting, Superiour Vigor, and the rest Vitaes.

All three enchantments go on me, and then I cast another on a team mate, depending what profession they are.

I soon found out that using [holy wrath] means no energy in fights, but that it stays up even when you do hit 0. Then I thought of using adrenilin only skills, like my hammer character, but I'd still need [enraging charge] or [for great justice] to get some good damage done.

Ended up putting 3 sigs in as no energy costs, then remembered [symbolic strike] is powered off signets, and stuck that in too.

Now with 9 in sword and tactics, I can use both sword and shield to their maximum potential. I hit for +16 damage every hit, and using a furious weapon mod, I can hit for and extra 48 damage on top of that every 2-4 hits, not bad for melee.

Add in the guaranteed knockdown from the elite, and 100 damage from [signet of mystic wrath] and you can see a nice damage output.

Then you add the damage caused by [retribution] and [holy wrath] and you can understand the fun and potential

Cons:
-As usual, enchantment strippers will knock you back to standard sword damage.
-No conditions/hexes put on target
-Slow activating signets
-Armour drop when healing (when I use this, I found the returned damage from enchants spikes nicely)
-No run or attack speed increase

Pros:
-High damage output
-decent armour rating
-No energy required or used, run at 0 permanantly
-Guaranteed knockdown
-66% +33% of all damage taken is sent back to enemy
-Enchant another player with [holy wrath] or [strength of honor]
-Purge ALL hexes and conditions from yourself or a team mate.
-Backfire doesn't work on me
-People don't expect a monk to chase and kill them, and you get the element of surprise until they realise you're killing them with that sword.
-"Monk first" means you'll get a lot of assasins and warriors trying to shut you down, and killing themselves in the process.

Hope you try it, and find it as entertaining as I do.

Have fun

sounds like you could die pretty easily with this build

enchant strips are quite common in AB

and i don't think its

66%+33% dmg sent back its only

66% and for 33% of that 66% you deal back the most

so 33% [holy wrath]+[retribution]
and 33% [holy wrath]

I like this a lot hehe xP I'm wondering if you're using this is PVE or PVP?
For PVE, I have run something fairly similar for a veeerry long time. Pre-EoTN it went
[bane signet] [strength of honor] [judge's insight] [shield of judgment] [mending touch] [sun and moon slash] [barbarous slice] [gash]
Nowadays we got ["You move like a dwarf!"] [asuran scan] ['I am the strongest!"] [Club of a Thousand Bears]
I'm just happy to see someone else appreciating [strength of honor] on a sword-wielding monk ^_^

I don't find it too bad, as it's AB you can get a brilliant set of opponents or abismal, or anything in between.

It's not meant to be played as a tank, more a wammo in reverse. Now I look to have at least one wammo with me when I use this monk build, as they get picked on a lot (bless 'em), and appreciate the extra damage enchantment.

Enchant strips should be common in AB, but surprisingly they aren't.
Being a monk, however, will attract any strippers that are present.

This build is a good concept. I've run something very close to this in the past. What I found in AB, however, is that surviving as a monk without some defense is futile. ([purge signet] and [healing signet] won't be enough). So, I would recommend using this build in a group that has another monk. Ideally, opponents will mistakenly go after you instead of the healer/protector.

I used something alone these lines awhile ago in Fort Aspenwood, although I used [Signet of Removal] for hex/condition removal, and [Rush] for an IAS instead of Purge Signet. Slightly less damage, but still good.

You're right about weak defence, but with all armour insigs, full 16 from the shield and some more on the sword, and all the extra hp, it's surprising how much damage playing as a squishy like this you can take.

Usually I get a respite from attack once they realise when they hit or spell me, it hurts them back, though sins dont seem to notice and kill themselves.

A shatter sin or rip+interupter would easily kill me, but they're quite rare in AB.

Also lot of the fun in AB relies on buff enchantments, what boosts they can give in different combinations, and the randomness of the opponents faced.

lol...sure use it in pve anything goes there. But pvp haha no. You'l get rape by anything except maybe when an enemy sees you using this they'l be too busy having a lol to do anything. Melee need to have defense whether armour or stances and this has none, upfront with caster armour? Not to mention blocking skills will eat this badly too. I smell rape waiting to happen.

@Xsiriss

Are you kidding? this is AB I'm talking about, which I think is more like Co-op, not pvp. I don't do pvp for the fact people take it too seriously, I want to play for fun. As a War, I play hammer, all atack, like this monk, try it out mate in AB, and I can honestly say I think you'd be surprised, and if not surprised, then you'd have a laugh at peoples reaction when the monk chops em up

Btw the lower armour helps kill opponents: more damage fed back, for example to cap the ranger shrine, I sit there and spam healing sig, oops they're all dead, dont even bother attacking, as it's more fun to watch.

Been playing since Feb this year, and this build is the only one where enemy players have PM'ed me mid game for a ping.

For the first time last night someone joined our team with an identical build, after I told them, and it was like using ursan, as it used to be, during a norn point farming run.

LOL...I can think of about 10 sin builds that could rape your before you even think of hitting judge sig. And AB is pvp despite what people think that requires tactics, if you were on my team I'd get my entire guild to report you for just wasting a party slot. I'll be damned if this build ever manages to solo cap or kill someone 1v1/2v1, at most you might annoy someone enough so they attack you instead of someone else.

Anyway lower armour higher damage yes, but most teams never go into a match without a healer and anyway stupid enough to keep attacking when its hurting them is an idiot, meanwhile the hits they do get through will munch you so you'l spend more time spamming heal sig than attacking.

I'm sorry I know this is off-topic but I just can't stand people who think /report is there for them to whine about other people's builds.
You will get nowhere reporting someone for their skillbar.

Here's some pictures of more positive responses, including oppersition players, and one in particular that I killed several times, one on one. Who then went and made an exact copy, and switched side to play in my team (How often does that happen?) which you can see in the last picture.

It's meant to be fun, not "OMGZ I owz @l wiz ma sctzilzz!!"

On a side note, I had been kicked from several teams for not being a healer, before they even saw the build.

I had a go in FA with this on both sides, and overall it's a fragile character - but it has its moments!

Hmm I agree that it seems a bit fragile. On the other hand, half of the time I play AB I do it for the lulz so I may have to try it out.

Speaking of the lulz, you should try a 4-man W/E hammer team, all with glyph of sacrafice, meteor shower, a stonefist insignia, and conjure flame. Total knock-lock for 9 seconds plus your 2 regular hammer KDs and ok dmg as well with conjure.

Its a completly rediculous build but sometimes you just as good of reactions from monks or w/e who had no chance whatsoever because they never even got off the ground.

I just tried out this build and its great fun, i took out purge signet because we had a monk with us and put in signet of rage for extra damage especially against foes with adrenaline skills

Well I've been running this build for the last few matches and I have to say, it is quite fun. I have to tread softly around necro and mesmer shrines, but so far only one opposing human has stripped by enchantment. This build is tons of fun.

p.s. This build is gaining notoriety. Someone recognized this from off guru. So spread the fun.

Seems like pretty weak utility and survivability overall. How is this really any better than just regular non-gimmick smite bars, or better yet, Me/Mo signet smite?

@ Riotgear

I'm not saying it's better or tougher build, but it is fun, have a try, just be wary round the Mes shrine, that's the only iffy area.
