Default Looking for tips for mesmerising

Although I have played lotsa matches in HA as a mes ( and even won a Hall) I find myself as a bad mesmer. I think Im not using all the skill required to play this profession.

So thats why I am asking you all for tips for being a pro mesmer that collects MonksĀ“ underpants as a hobby. Would you kindly help me?

PD is last resort interupt, spamming it makes you bad
Dont use your interupts on monks (unless its channeling)
Strip channelings
Dont spam diversion/shame, use it when it will actually do something
Use interupts on the midline and on hard reses

You'll find in HA that screwing with the monks is easier than the rest of your job, because all you need to attack is channeling. (unless your playing a scrub spike build, then it wont matter)

Well, assuming you mean shutting down monks, i would suggest playing a monk for a while ot "get inside there head"

Plus is that a BioShock reference?

Know your bar and know what mesmer bar is optimal for your build. If the build you are playing has other interrupts like ones from a ranger, then a P-Block mesmer bar should be much more useful then a PD. Know how much interruption your bar has and how many skills from the enemy team you can take, a PD can interrupt many more individual skills then a P-Block, however a P-Block can simply P-Block a prot monk a then it doesnt matter if it has channeling up or not.

Count skill recharges in your head, not just for 1 char, but all 8. Know when a paragon is going to put up DA and be ready to interrupt it and possibly a Song of Conc. Know when a monk has put up channeling again so you can strip it.

Watch field animation, at the beginning of a match before you can count skill recharges, or if you simply can not keep 64 (ok you dont have to keep all 64 skills memorized) skill recharges in your head. Watch for DA animation, OoA animation, or for a ele to have its arms up in the air.

Prioritize. A good mesmer will always have their interrupts on recharge, except for PD. Know that if you have a monk putting up channeling now, but DA going up in 5 seconds that you should NOT interrupt the channeling and instead strip it saving an interrupt for DA. Don't waste an interrupt, If a team has 1 fire ele and your team is not balled, don't waste a p-drain on a Searing Heat, instead use it for a channeling, warding, diversion... or something else interrupt. Also prioritize what skills you will interupt depending on what you are running, and how much pressure you are under. If im on fetid river im not going to interrupt 100% of the other teams fire AoE, instead i will take DA, Aegis, warding, channellings. If my team is under alot of pressure I would interrupt diversions, high damage spike skills aka rodgorts and channeled strike, and anything that if causing your monk greif.

Use diversion well. Diversion should be timed and used to take skills with fast cast and fast recharges, RoF, SB, Warding (kinda), and RC are all good targets for diversion. Either A; time diversion so it lands when the enemy is casting, or B: put it on the enemy at a time when they need to cast forcing them to divert something. ex: training the enemy healers boon and diversion spamming the prot monk will force it to divert a skill.

Shame monks, and make sure if you shame them they dont have channling. What monk to shame depends on your build but often I find it better to shame a prot monk.

Back on topic, thanks for the tips, but I have problems when playing against the gimmicks. Would you tell me tips against the gimmicks, if you have time?

hway - interrupt OoA and your team doesn't die

rspike - cry the first spike, go after the ritualist weapons and interrupt ranger preps.

contagion - rend the necros, not always possible due to SB. Interrupt martyr on the paragon

balance - hit the earth ele so your frontline actually does something.

oh and remember to be stripping/interrupting monk channeling through all of this

also, assist spikes with either a well timed diversion/shame or a shatter ench on the called target

best thing to know is a good monk will try and fake you ou, always do the same to them. diversion/shame works well on spikes obviously. remember, heroes have no concept of shame/diversion, if they get annoying, spam away. ele shutdown is fairly simple, interupt or remove attunement right after it goes up then interupt lesser if they use it. PD isn't you're primary interupt, you dont want to find yourself spamming it, energy will run fast and you wont be able to get that flesh or pact that starts the res chain. just keep playing, experience is the best way to learn

some ppl are making it sound like you have to keep a countdown of everything, you dont. things you wanna keep track of are channeling, weapon of warding (on certain maps and splitting), DA, Orders, Brutal if you wanna be fancy and thats about it oh and Ward vs Harm if you're dealing with crazy defensive teams. everything else doesnt really matter if it gets through every now and then. Dont just strip channeling tho aim to land a diversion on it then strip it, if you shame that monk you can basically say the enemy team will die. also playing defensively isnt really necessary unless you have epic fail monks its HA they have infinite energy and the enemy team is rubbish so if you die you prolly have a bad team and so playing defensively wont help in the long run.

also important are weapon sets for a PD mesmer.

These are what i use, the Slightly Higher set can be 40/40 Insp or 40/20 Death Staff for profane.

Defensive Set: SwordSpear -+5/+30 Shields +10vsX/30 +10vsCold/+60Hex, equip accordingly Fire generally best for altar caps, your choice + or - sword for pure spikes it might be best for +5 energy cause you'll be in the shield set most of the time but for balanced -5 is better cause you switch when you get attacked and so if you die you jump back to your 40/40 with more energy after res

Regular Set: 40/40 Dom, try whenever possible to use this activating Dom skills for maximum efficiency

Slightly Higher Set: +20 Energy +30hp Staff, used for Shatter spikes and safer emergancy swap than High High set

High High Set: +30-2 Wand and Offhand, use to stop 2 ghosts capping for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages but the most important thing is SWITCH BACK TO A +4pip REGEN SET BETWEEN CASTS!!

Other Equipment: +60hp 20/20 Staff used for armour ignoring spikes like BSpike as it still lets you work your spells with decent efficiency

oh and an amazing outfit makes you a better mesmer, wearing secret "stylish" combos give you a +1 Fast Casting boost
