Ok, that's cool, I got more fame than all thos people together, but that, once again, doesn't make it "fair" for me to get ganked.
Or how about teams ganking because they want to help the other team (that's in their alliance), are you saying you have a magical button on your screen that removes both of them from the same alliance, and makes them forget they are friends? What is this mind-controlling device you speak off, and please, can U get it cheap at Best Buy?

The Poll here in Guru where people could vote for either:
-> Current HoH Conditions
-> Revert to Old-School
-> Some last option which I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure it was
something amongst the lines of: "I don't care, HA is dead anyways".

CLEARLY showed people prefered old-school more. (It was like 60-80% for old-school, if I recall correct, and only like 12-13% for current conditions)
Also, let the numbers speak for themselves. We BARELY have 2 districts now, and ALL you see is heroways, and/or other farming builds, with the sole purpose of FARMING FAME. People don't play for fun anymore, or atleast 99.9% of the community doesn't, you can ask anyone you want. The first thing people ask when U ask them to join running a new build: "Will it win?", translated from HA-orion to plain English: "Will I get alot of fame without having to do much?".
If you find a random chance of winning fun, I have another fun game for you:

Grab a deck of cards, some friends and unbiased medium (a dog, machine, anything "random").
Now have that medium "give" each player a card (just lay all card on the floor, face down and have the dog, e.g., select a card for each player somehow)
Once everyone has his own card, you turn it around and show it to eachother. Whoever has the highest number wins!!!!! If people have the same number (J=11, Q=12, K=13, A=1), you go to the suits. (Harts > Spades > Clovers > Diamonds)

Sounds insane fun? I know, and you can repeat it as many times as you want!!!!

People liked old-school holding more, I doubt anyone will disagree on that one. Some people like to eat sheit, yet I think it's safe to say that the large community, the bigger part of the world, DOESN'T like to eat sheit. The fact that noone does so prooves this.
It's the same in HA, once again, let the number of districts, and people who left HA, speak for itself.

1. What am I expect to do? I am yet working on my Guild Wars hack, so I can use the skill "Prevent Gank", and cast it on me and my team.
It's hard to improve when you're already one of the best teams in HA. (Dent)
2. Yes, I got shot in my leg, but I won't complain, it was my bad, I'll go back to working in the field now. I'll also give the guy who shot me some money, so he can buy some more bullets.
WHY CAN'T I COMPLAIN?
I keep loosing HoH because of bad design. Bad design is an understatement, concidering the VERY BASE of a Competitive PvP game is a FAIR system. HA is far from, and would thus fall under the category: "Seriously Flawed Games, aboid at all cost".
3. Well, if you want a list:

-Spartan: Becuase I capped the altar first when he said: "Whoever caps the altar first gets ganked", and I figured he was joking.
-[eXe ] (The contagionwayers): Because we beat them in underworld, flawless in 1 minute, and they said: Backbreaker nabs. So when they skipped to HoH from UW, they ganked us as a payback for rolling them too fast.
-Amazon: Because I'm a ritspiker.
-rawr: Because they didn't care about winning, and decided to gank the HA nabs.
-random heroway X: because we beat them in a previous match, and they want revenge.
-random team X: because we beat them in a previous match, and they want revenge.
-Ralaj: For calling him a "thumper" in HA ID1 in a discussion in All-Chat that happened a few days/weeks before.
-...

Ok, Oh Mighty One, now tell me how to I stop these ganks from happening? You got it all figured out, please let your eternal light of wisdom shine upon me.

As one, maybe THE, most experiencer player in HA, I make sure I NEVER take out a team before-hand. I NEVER train someone, unlike some other people, I'm NOT bad.

I love how you're trying to find a "tactical" reason behind the gank. It's plain and simple: human behaviour.
I get ganked because of jealousy (Serious, a team once joined after a HoH skip from UW, we were alrdy holding for 8-9 times, and they said: Well you've been holding long enough now, bye), because I'm better (Amazon, Bongo), because they don't like [Dent] for playing lame builds (Yeah, BBway is lame, but Rspike isn't? o.0)

Ganking ALONE is a reason to throw both capture points AND relic run in the trashbin, by far the best spot for them to be at...

Oh God, where to begin.

1) Old school altar holding is DUMB (imo)
People QQ EVERYDAY about relics being dumb because you wait until the last 2 minutes. Why bring back a map where you can wait until the last 15 seconds to cap?????????????

2) [Dent] being a best........... I really hope that was sarcastic.

3) You being the best............. I really hope that was sarcastic.

Man, I don't even HA but with these "i r uber"-comments by this dude, I would GANK him for the hell of it!
Pretty darn sad comments really (the oxygen supply must be thin at such high altitude levels), guess not all PvPers can be cool and nice fellas...

Anyway, others basically summarized this thread as
1/ To GANK or not to GANK
2/ GANK or be GANKED

Make your selection now.

Ok children...lets stop bickering.

If you can't handle getting ganked, don't play HA. Because as long as there are 3 way maps, there will be ganks, if for no other reason than some people like doing it. No amount of extra rules or conditions added to halls or courtyard will make any difference, you can gank people from the start of the match.

Borat, you've said your piece here. We do not need to hear anything further about how unfair it is to you that ganking exists, and that people choose to gank you because of who you are and what you've said on these forums and ingame. We also need nothing further of people promoting their guilds/themselves. It adds nothing to the discussion and makes you look like a fool.

Ganking exists, unless all the maps are made 1v1, there is gonna be ganking.

Ganking exsists, O rly?

What's the point in stating the obvious, OFFCORSE it exists.

The question, and what we're arguing, is wether or not ganking is:

-> A valid strategy (should it be promoted or dispromoted by Anet)
-> something that player SHOULD have an option to

Ganking is not a competitive strategy, thus shouldn't belong in a competitive game. Gues how many people would play Unreal/Counterstrike if you would randomly die every xx seconds. Not many.

Gues how many people would play WoW if you could randomly die and loose your current progress from the last time you've saved (logged out).
Alot less.

This is NOT a downside, this is a BANE.

Besides "randomness", ganking (uncompetitive behaviour) is HIGH amongst the list of things to prevent in a PvP-based game.
Anet themselves said they wanted people to stop being unsupportive, and even punishes them for doing so. (Dishonorable anyone?)

Then why are they giving the EXACT OPOSITE message by allowing such shabby conditions in HoH?

Last but not least, you're never going to get rid of ganking, the same way you're never going to prevent a car crash from happening to someone somewhere.
It's about how much can you contain the odds of this happening, and with Capture Points and Relic Runs, well let's say Anet pretty much HANDS US the option to gank, whereas with old-school holding, there is multiple mechanics that prevent/counteract such behaviour.

Think of the fact that UNTILL the VERY LAST SECOND, all teams have a chance of winning. (If they have a Rezz Orb for Ghostly)
Second, there is the fact that the ONLY objective is HOLDING, thus a 2v1 situation is not something you're NOT prepared for (such as the current conditions, I doubt someone has already made a build that RELIES on people ganking you, so you can guarantee your win through this gank), au contraire, it's something were you're SPECIALIZED for.

So sure, ganks will still happen, but IF you manage to hold, which is EXACTLY what your build is supposed to do if you're aimig for consecutive holds, than no matter if you get ganked, you'll still win...

FFA isn't a bad mechanic, per say. A lot of successful shooter games use the FFA mechanic, and even games like starcraft and warcraft used it as well. "Teaming up" and ganking exist in those games too, but the effects aren't as drastic

The annoying part about FFA and ganking in HA is that:
a) you have consecutive streaks, and no one likes to lose that streak to a gank
b) there are a bunch of idiots that play solely for the purpose of ganking (or to gank you specifically), unlike in FPS games or strategy RPG games, where you'll be playing with your friends mostly
c) there isn't a quick turnaround, like in FPS games with quick respawns
d) bad players gank good players so they can say "LOL I BEAT DR AND RAWR IN HALLZ"

Ganking is a dumb strategy, but it's the result of Anet's poorly designed FFA system, which could've been good like the other games. We'll see if they learn from this mistakes. My bet is no.

How about we forget about "Ganking" and form more friendships among other players so that this won't happen as often. In other words, make friends and use them. If you know how to use your friends effectively without letting them know it, I am sure you can use them when you are in any 1v1v1 maps. Of course, this won't always work however it should minimize your chances of getting ganked. People are not as smart as you think in HA.

friendships turn into 'we can't win, lets help our friends' and in turn provides a gank on the 'non-friendly' team

Actually, ganking is a valid strategy to me. Sort of like this:

Team A vs Team B vs Me

Team A happens to be a decent team, maybe a team that I have exchanged wins and losses with throughout the night, maybe i've been rolled by them repeatedly all night, whatever the case may be. Team B is some random heroway team not using Vent. They lack any sort of teamwork because they are a pug. I gank Team A and try to get them to resign in the first minute or two. They cry, /resign, and I can turn around and have a 1v1 with the random team that isn't coordinated. I easily rid myself of this team because they thought they were being ganked for, and they weren't prepared to be rolled.

Anything that results in a win, is a valid tactic.

It's borderline.

1) You DO want to gank someone out of spite.

2) You STILL want to win aswell.

I've had it happen to me that I've been ganked, and the ganking team still won after we left. I then PM'd the leader saying gratz and wishing him gl.

From your guild tough, I do understand that "ganking" has a different meaning, cuz all you guys do is play silly games, be drunk and just play for fun (Dong).

As long as you give either team a fair chance, I REALLY don't care who you gank (You've ganked FOR, and against me, I'm usually with smexy and nick ) concidering I know you guys don't gank out of jealousy or anything.

This is a HUGE different compared to Spartan, Bongo or other people. They MERELY gank out of "hate" over a game, which is sad for both parties. (For the team getting ganked, because as mentioned before, what's the point in playing a PvP game when it's unfair/balanced? And even more so for the ganking team, it shows they take this game WAY to serious, and really need to reduce in-game time, and increase rl time..)

Not spite, I gank them first because they pose the bigger threat.

Bongo and Spartan are both bad, so I wont even comment on them.

I've played guild wars since release date, and i started HoH about 2 months after release, hitting r7 just before the onslaught known as [MATH] and their brutal iway. How I saw it was that if iway was on the map, 1 or more teams were GOING to be ganked, that is the builds style (beat your opponent to a bloody pulp). While I discourage iway at all costs, I still have to realize that ganking IS a tactic of the game and WILL be used.

I'm currently r10 (took a LONG break) and how feel is, if I am going to take the time to come to HA, I am there to win. And if it I fell that I can secure a win through ganking another team, I am GOING to do it, I honestly don't care if they get butthurt over it, its not like they cant try again.......

look at it this way, if I playing you in a game of baseball, I am not going to just bump the ball every time, you will catch on and that is a tactic that isn't productive. How ever if I just smashed the ball out of the park each time, I am going to win, thus making the other team mad and generating hate between players, so the best option is to play hard keeping in check the competitive spirit of the game (which is what I'm gathering this is about) sure I'm not going to win every single match, but if I feel I can gain something I WILL GANK YOUR TEAM.

bottom line, you are there to win....do it.

But baseball isn't 3-way.

Offcorse, in the unlikely event that the guy you happen to gank also is your neighbour, and when he gets so pissed off from you ganking him he throws his computer out of the window, into your garden, allowing you to pick it up and keep it (assuming it still works), there isn't much to gain from "ganking" someone.

Worse, I can only imagine you starting or continuing a feud between that guy, so you'll prolly get ganked back.

Ganking IS NOT a strategy. Or atleast not one to win. The same way old perma-SF in RA/HA/TA was only to cause grief, ganking is essentially the same thing. ALL you really want to do is piss people off, and preventing them from having fun in the game.

Ganking is, and always should have been, a reportable "crime", with a ban and/or "dishonerable"-like system, to prevent gankers from ganking, and having them think twice when they do so.

Yes but what you might consider a gank can be considered strategic by someone else, sometimes a gank is just a gank, and everyone will recognize it but other times it's not that easy to determine.
