Tournament Ruling - 06 February 2009
In the most recent GvG tournament, Rebel Rising [rawr] and Survival Rate [zero] tied against each other by coming to an agreement and choosing not to fight while the timer counted down. Forcing a draw at that stage of the tournament guaranteed both teams a place in the Top 16. Based on documentation and reviews of the event, we observed both guilds willfully and knowingly conspiring to intentionally draw the match in this way. It was very clear that both guilds broke tournament rules, which state that participants may not engage in any form of ladder manipulation or unsportsmanlike conduct. Both guilds agreed to tie the match, and they did so knowing that they were breaking the rules.

As a result, both guilds will have their cape trims removed. Rebel Rising [rawr] will have their permanent gold cape trim removed for a period of one month. Survival Rate [zero] will not receive their silver cape trim for placing in the Top 16. The guilds’ rankings will remain the same.

We feel that removing status (cape trims) rather than resetting their rankings sends a stronger signal to the guilds involved, while still being lenient in this first offense. Future offenses of this type may be treated in a stricter manner, including temporary or permanent bans for any players involved.

We are working on updating the ATS mechanics to further discourage this type of ladder manipulation in the future. We will also be updating the tournament rules to provide more clarity on this issue.

If you have any comments or feedback about this decision, please contact the Community Team at community @arena.net or through one of the other methods listed on my user page.

They're not rebel rising. Therefore no one QQs. Therefore, Anet doesn't have to fake the fact that they care about this game when it comes to HBers.

What are you talking about? They were punished the exact same way, their trims got removed!

That's like the Luxons and the Kurzicks agreeing on tying it out, it's a joke in other words.

Yes the reference was that HB is like ABing alone.

Let the flamin begin!

Also taking the trim off is like cutting off their manhood, replacing it with their thumb, and saying walk around for a month it'll come back up. Sure the base is still there but the warning was understood loud and clear. Really don't think it'll happen again or anything close.

yeah it won't happen again but that punishment is so weak, it's like taking 10k off someone who has 1000k

not like i care or anything, this games dead and shit. I'm just saying, if A-net wanted to 'look' like they gave a damn they should have used a punch rather than a poke

PvErs actually see it as a pretty big punishment, so it worked out in their favor.

It's a good thing PvEers are well-informed contributors to anet internal decision-making.

I like seeing [rawr] at the top of the ladder, good to see the name up there, gives the game some history. I like watching Chop Chop Panda on TV. Survival Rate [zero] is a guild that I like to watch too.

Removing/denying their trim is a nice warning. Each time these "elite" warriors logs into the game, they see the results of their deceit. I'm sure that each player in the guild knows that they got off light.

You can bet that they were told that another incident will result in sterner punishment: banning of officers, banning the entire winning team, tournament ineligibility. Any of those punishments would be extremely painful for a bunch of people who GvG for a living.

Next time, they won't walk away without a beating. If there is a next time.

Even Izzy recommended to play another game. A banning or tournament ineligibility would be a good way to carry that out, eh?
