Not if you were trying to get fame since the odds of you getting through the second and third maps (both 8v8) were quite low...

Those times were better. Bad teams could farm Underworld get one fame (if lucky) and then lose. Good teams (really didn't have to be that good, not much more skill is required to hold now as there was then) could hold for lots of fame.

Burial mounds became 1v1, this tripled the rate of fame gain for farmers. The more recent Fetid doubled the new rate. This has led to more people playing to increase that fame bar and less people play because they actually like the format.

Also the third map was 6 man, three separate 1v1's that fed into a 3-way deathmatch.

You got a good point... The UW, Fetid, burial combo simply promoted farming builds, rather than fun builds.

Non-the-less, shit HoH conditions are the thing that killed the fun tough...

The reason the old altar was better liked than this new shit is that aside from the last 2:00 of the match at no point were you ever out of the match.

With the new altar if you last half the match, you won, nothing the other team can do, yet you are still playing for several more minutes. Similar things apply for the score with relic and cap points. The fact that you could be put out of a match much earlier was really what killed the fun of the format. This also encourages ganking, when previously a team would normally only have to hold off a gank for 2 minutes. Now they have to hold off 2v1's for half a match or more, is it any surprise we are seeing 3 monks and a rit backline?

Golden ages indeed.
