I think top 200 is an exaggeration, I don't know of any.

Top 500 maybe.

Elektra - great post.
i myself am unranked and will like to improve in Heroes' Ascent.
but the reasons i found that its an incredibly huge struggle is because:
A:All that most unranked want to play is IWAY or Zergway or whatever it is called
B:i would like to play something other than that and turn to balanced - which i cannot because i am unranked
C:all i see from some people is "Join a guild.Get some friends." well i for one - know my friends have quit HA,because of a simple reason. most of the stuff thats ran there is something thats FotM,and why should i leave my guild over it anyway?

i kinda dont blame them for quitting tbh...

If you want further proof about this topic, don't know if anyone else stated this, as I didn't read the whole topic, join an unranked IWAY.

You can see that, they resurrect slow as they're too busy focused on attempting to kill their target, don't listen to commands very much, trip the timer a lot, and forget longbows and such.

I'd also like to note, unranked spike groups are hopeless.
Most groups nowadays recruiting are r5+.

Unranked spike groups hopeless? I started Tombs as a spike scrub, air spike first, then later bloodspike. I went from r0-r6 calling spikes. And we were good at it too. I however, very much regret not trying to form balance first instead, because ever since then I've been a balance player, and I make so much more fame than before I want to cry sometimes.

ppl with low or no rank like me want rank too, but the problem is that everyone in heroes ascent is being picky on ranks saying you need rank 9 to be in the group yadayadayada makes me sick. This means it's impossible for ANY new player to get rank easily if everyone in Heroes Ascent acts this way (and no, i tend to be a bad leader).

Even I'm highly experienced in PvP, no one wants me because of rank.

If you are "highly experianced" in pvp, then Flist it. That shouldn't be hard, because people like to stay in contact with other people who are good.

Or, like i did, gvg till you get to a decent level, then ha with your guild. Now, i'm still rank3, but many of my guildies are r9 or r10, so they smuggle me into their high ranked flist groups whenever we feel like ha'ing. Of course, you have to play well for this to happen more than once.

If you aren't quite as good as you think, then just try to find a new ha guild, or find some unranked iway groups.

Dark Paladin X:

Out of curiosity, did you read any of my first post? Or just see the title and explain your hatred? I tend to do random way a lot, test bars or just mess around whatever. It is fun! xD. Have done it with a couple of friends too. Anyway, I notice patterns in peoples behaviour . If I genuinely see a good low rank player I'd take him in my groups if I could.

I find that often some players that think they're good or highly experienced, will over call me in the randomway because they think their calling is better(a form of arrogance in a way). I say at the start I want people to shut up and just play. I don't want them to draw on the radar and I don't want them to start calling because people spam T and follow the call. I wouldn't mind if people could click the arrow by the side of the name, but they can't.

So I'm going to keep inviting these low rank people in my random ways. Who knows, Maybe I will find one that is just as he describes himself. Hasn't happened yet though and I do more random way than anyone D:.

everyone here that didnt start with pvp in the beginning always had the problem getting a group..... finally when they get their R3 R4 or higher they do the same thing eventually (starting R3 to R5+ groups).... this is pretty much the reason HA isnt as popular as it used to be... the gap between a newb and a R6+ R9+ is getting bigger and bigger.... specially with the spiritway era

the new R3+ is now R6+

Eventhough I like to win in HA its so much better playing with lower ranked people that listen than with Higherranked people who "allot of them" think they know everything better

If you have no rank why are you focused on an r9 group? You should be grouping in r0-r3 and making friends. You ignore those groups because you looking for a free ride to fame and glory, it ain't gonna happen. People spot guys like you a mile away and avoid you like the plague because no one wants to be used. You got nothing to bring to the table in an r9 group except failure. They know this and you know know this so why not just play with your peers? You guys can learn the game together and move up in rank together getting r3/r6 like a graduating class and eventually you will meet those more experienced players and make friends with them as well.

Its not supposed to be easy its supposed to be fun. If you refuse to play with your peers. You may be able to hide rank a sneak in a group, but when you fail hard and don't live up to expectations you just damage your reputation and slam doors shut forever. While you are whining other r0's are making friends with each other and slowly getting rank and having fun. In a month they will be flashing their bambi and in three months their wolf. Talking about the good old days when they were r0. What will you be doing in three months?

What type of dribble is this this? Did randomway turn you down? Did that <r3 group reject you? You can get groups, but you are the one discriminating against them, you think you better than the guy in the exact same boat.

The problem is that all low ranked players think that they and only they are the best r2 to play the game. They all think that they can play just as well as a r10, but in all honesty they cant, and they only way they will be able to is through practice and gaining experience. You don't learn strat by watching observer mode or reading articles, you learn by doing.

and also, to all you who say rank doesn't matter, why is it that r9 iway > r3/6 iway?

Just so we are all clear I am new to PvP. I joined a great guild who is willing to teach and doesn't run the so called "scrub" builds. When we are not running together in the evening i look for pretty much any group i can run in thats organized. I have like 70 Fame atm. And it has taken me 2 years to get it. B/c i don't want to be a scrub runner and fame farmer. Don't get me wrong, i want fame. But i want exp more. When i first entered HA I figured i was a great PVE monk, i know i'll be leet in PvP. WRONG!!! Man the learning curve is steep. And its even more difficult to learn when the only party i'm able to get is with unranked invite a spike that turns out being the greatest resign spike team ever. With the greatest rage quitters ever. They don't understand that if 1 person doesn't do their job the whole team fails. So it turns into a you suck fest. The reason why higher ranked players don't take low or unranked players is b/c their is a noticable skill diffrence. Now thats not true in all cases. Like the Ebayed PvP accounts that ppl pay a fortune for. Idiots.
I understand this completely. Now there are higher ranked players who do give new ppl a chance. Thats how i got in my guild. But we need more. More of you knowledgable players who want more competetion or ppl kill. lol I can understand you want fame too and the chances are lessened by taking a unranked or low ranked player in your group. But sometimes you should give us a chance. I only get better as i am let into the higher ranked more knowledge filled players groups. Ones who can teach. "you need to do this" "Make sure your not getting into that choke point" Etc.
Its hard to build a larger PvP base of talent when all the new players aren't being taught anything. I've wanted to be involved in PvP for a long time but i haven't been able to get any acceptance untill recently. Many ppl are turned away b/c of the negativity. But the unranked and low ranked players are as much to blame as most high ranks. Well thats my 2 cents. If it made any sense.

We should give people a chance, why? Not sarcasm, honestly why? Not saying I don't give them a chance but I am just asking as to why I should.

This whole 'I don't play IWAY so I don't get much fame' argument is old and void by now. When I first started HA I didn't want to IWAY or play scrub builds, and I didn't. It didn't take that long to get 70 fame, certainly not two years. I am not belittling you but it seems like you honestly believe the reason you have 70 fame in two years is because you didn't play a lame build.

There isn't that many ebayed accounts, I say ebay. You can't buy and sell accounts on ebay anymore, but I presume (and I mean the same) you mean any site which may sell guildwars accounts.

You may have a perfectly good explanation as to why people should give low ranks a chance. Yes, that's right. People who have putup with all you have putup with and more, that should then 'help' you but then I am going to spice it up a bit more. Someone offers me 2.5k+ Per fame. I help him, or someone else?

Don't call him lame either. I need money for PVE and what's more, I think PVE'rs should give me free runs. They don't though =(.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hero_%28title%29
You might want to look at this. You see how it becomes rapidly harder to gain next rank? High rank people need help too .

Finally, another thing I'd like to add. Not many care about rank six any more. Maybe I am assuming way to much but from my point of view HA is like this:

Rank3, desperate for a very first emote. 180 fame kind of hard to get.
Rank four and five . Meant very little. Hardish to get at the time.
Rank six, meant very little. Fairly easy to get.
Rank seven , eight. Meant absolutely nothing. Hardish to get.
Rank9 , next meaningful emote. Hard to get.
Rank10 , Easy to get. Means nothing.
Rank11 , Hard to get. Means quite a bit.
Rank12 , Nightmare to get.

So what have we:

Rank3. 180 Fame.
Rank9. 4665 Fame
Rank11. 12960 Fame
Rank12. 21600 Fame

You will want the rank4-9 people to help you, but the fame gap is huge.
If you want above rank9, then you have to consider they will have lots of friends. Why 'should' they want to play with randoms?

This is kind of a personal thing. Maybe rank4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 means something to others. As far as I have always thought, bambi should be rank6. Wolf should be rank3 heh.

Well i gotta tell you. I HAVE given ppl many free runs and help in any way i can in PvE. You need help in PvE? Contact my IGN.I'm not one of those ppl that are stuck up. Thats the kind of person i am. I NEVER SAID ALL LOW LVLS DESERVE HELP! But there are some of us who want to learn. And common sense tells you that in 2 years you could acquire more than 70 fame. If you did HA every day. Well i didn't b/c it wasn't fun to run in non speaking slack jawed groups. And why should you help? Gee i don't know...hmmmm...Maybe to get more players involved in HA? Since i see so much posted about how dead it is etc etc. Your the prime example of high and mighty PvP players. I posted a respectful post and you come back and basically flamed me about it. There is no need for attitude. Be an adult.(if in fact you are) I never realized that you were the authority on ranked accounts bought and sold either. I'm srry if my information was inaccurate. B/c i'm sure everyone that bought a ranked account yells it out in the open. you can lock this now.

So you come in, write garbage and then ask for the thread to be locked? Nice. Now I'm assuming your post was some what sarcastic. With what little you've given me to reply to. Here goes nothing:

I know/knew several people who sold or tried to sell accounts. I myself have access to five accounts. I knew of a person months ago (stoned from Bus) that sold his account at rank11. I know TVC sold his, mental leteci sold his. Leteci sold his on a separate Croatian site if I'm not mistaken. I never knew Power Of My Rangers but I think he sold his. When someone high rank sells their account, they have friends, so people notice it. Their friends notice it, it doesn't just go un-noticed.

Why do you think that the owners can still get groups? They are remembered. Now truthfully not as many accounts have been sold as people think. Oh and Ebay changed their policy on selling accounts too. I know because I tried to sell accounts.

Just like every bad player has bought an account, every high rank player is an IWAY. It's the same kind of in game stereotyping.
Quote:

Well, four and five don't offer a new emote and they're still considered lowly. Six is an ugly emote (remember this is my opinion not fact), considered fairly low. Seven is similar to six. No new emote. There is quite a bit of fame difference between eight and nine without a new emote.

Nine is a cool emote. By this time you should/will have friends making ten easy to get, but eleven a chore =P. Something a chore is worth more.

Sister Rosette:

Yeah. I would suggest hexes (easy to play). Two warriors. Three monks, healers boon glimmer/woh infuse, rc prot. I wouldn't run glimmer myself but I'm taking into account that lower rank monks won't be so good. Two curse necros with a migraine mesmer, two warriors, and such would be pretty good. I tried running original build other day, didn't work out too well (lol). Something like a power block mesmer or PD mesmer might be too hard for someone to run well. Two fire eles and one water ele is easy to run also.

Personally I wouldn't mind mixing monk bars up a bit and running purge signet on the prot (with veil too). I get bored of running the same monk bars though and again you could get laughed at with this so.

HA is like this:

Things which are really annoying to the other team are hard to do. Skilled mesmer for example.

Another would be a warrior. There are so many bad warriors, frenzy RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO, think because they live they are good. No, they're a drain on the monks energy. Good warrior will change targets quickly, for un-protted targets, out of ward targets etc. On an axe warrior I'm quite liking body blow even if you don't have a cracked armour. Evisc/executioners/bodyblow is powerful on the players that are in HA at the moment (a lot of casters).

You need snares/song of concentration (ghostly)/speed buffs (relic). You can put song on the warrior, easy to gain adrenaline. Or have a caster which remembers to bring a furious weapon. A low rank player using song at the right time when he is a caster, really will be prone to mistakes. So I suggest you run it on front line.

Put a speed buff on a caster. So like, a curses necro/ele with storm djinns. Obviously have the wards separate from the speed buff, so you can snare (while other player runs relic).

Then just look at bars you see in HA. If they hold more than twice, consider something like that.

You may bring friends from PVE or do it all from pugs, you will probably make friends of people who only play a set class to begin with. Then you will want to incorporate that. If I was playing with low rank people and two said they could only play necro. I would not try to force them to play something else in the begining. I'd have maybe a taint and a curse, or two curse.

In my opinion your ambition should not be what should you play but who to play with. Try join groups and such. Message a few people or wait for them to message you.

I wouldn't recommend going down the route I did of not talking on mic either. You get zero respect from that, it really becomes annoying when you make a perfectly valid point but they don't hear you saying it. Even if you write it at the end of the round where everyone can see. Limits you from being able to make your own groups too.

fairly low rank (8) here. As to the many questions regarding asking if playing lame builds is the only viable option to get to 3. . .I'll say it depends. If what you're looking for is quick fame, then running lame builds is for you. If you want to actually learn the game (or like me become mediocre enough to not suck), then, as a billion others have mentioned before, find similar-minded friends and run a balanced build. Sure, the road to 3 will be much longer, but you will come out better players when you get there.

Even I'm highly experienced in PvP, no one wants me because of rank.
If you were highly experienced in PvP, you'd have a PvP rank of some sort.

The HA ranks really to me mean very little, and very roughly equate to some skill level, and occasionally can equate to GvG experience, which I believe is the top level of Guild Wars PvP. My HA rank simply indicates that I've played a fair share, and that I know what I'm doing, and I know the maps and what all.

To an extent however, they are indicative of skill. A rank 10 is better than a rank 2 on any given sunday, unless it is a rank2 that displays a champ title instead There's a couple excellent gvgers floating around with bambis...
