Default warrior builds

I'm new and someone recommended me that I play warrior as my first character. I pretty much only want to play PVP but I heard I should still play PVE to unlock skills and learn the game. For pvp, what's a good secondary profession? I'm interested in high damage output.

Also someone recommended me to play a touch ranger cause they are really good. Is this true?

Warrior secondaries are mainly used for their utility, not damage.

A warrior's damage comes in several ways, normally Deep Wound.

To increase warrior damage, use [frenzy]. To not die while increasing damage, cancel frenzy with [rush]

Good warrior skills -

Strength
[protector's strike][bull's strike][flail][rush][enraging charge][body blow]

hammer
[magehunter's smash][crushing blow][devastating hammer][hammer bash]

axe
[eviscerate][executioner's strike][disrupting chop][dismember]

sword
[crippling slash][gash][savage slash][sun and moon slash]

Search PvXwiki.com, look at Great PvP builds, look under "W", and look at warrior builds. That gives you an idea of how they're formed.

They normally follow a formula

Increase attack speed (frenzy, flail)+Increase movement speed (enraging charge, rush, sometimes sprint, sometimes dash)+utility from secondary (shock, rip enchantment, earthen shackles, iron palm, conjure lightning)+elite+big damage attack (executioner's strike...sun and moon slash)+resurrection skill+deep wound (dismember, gash, crushing blow)+disruption attack (savage slash, or a knockdown of some sort)

For example, the traditional "ShockAxe"

[Eviscerate][Executioner's Strike][Disrupting Chop][Shock][Bull's Strike][Frenzy][Rush][Resurrection Signet]

You have 2 big damage skills (one with the all-important Deep Wound), 1 interrupt, 2 knockdowns, a Rez, and a means of hitting and moving faster.

In PvP, Warriors do not focus on DPS, or at least recently haven't...

thanks for the info. Yeah I heard many say this game revovles around warriors and how they do good dps because they do a lot of dmg without using skills. So which secondary class is good for pvp? Mesmer, ele, monk?

And what's the incentive to play role play instead of pvp if I can get instant level 20 and have best armors (cause aren't they all the same, just look different?)

oh and if warriors aren't dps in pvp, who is? Touch ranger? :O

[devastating hammer][crushing blow][hammer bash][bull's strike][flail][enraging charge][death's charge][resurrection signet]
^ My favorite build. Don't use magehunter's.

As snow bunny said, a warrior build needs these things:

- Access to deep wound, as it adds +100 damage. [dismember][crushing blow][gash]
- Increased attack speed (IAS) [flail][frenzy]
- Increased movement speed [rush][enraging charge]
- Knockdowns [bull's strike][devastating hammer][hammer bash]
- Interrupts (if you have bar space) [savage slash][disrupting chop][agonizing chop]
- Big damage attacks are good but not used on all builds. [executioner's strike][body blow][sun and moon slash]

Secondary class skills: [death's charge][shock][rigor mortis][rip enchantment][mending touch][dash][conjure lightning][grasping earth]
There are lots of useful secondary class skills out there, generally a war build uses only one spell that's useful at 3 attribute, with the exception of conjure where you want to spec 8-10 into air magic.

Most builds that top players use are very very similar to each other, for example 99% of GvG hammer warriors use the same build I posted with only minor changes.

The advantage of playing pve is that you can get whatever skin armor and weapons you want, to end up looking a lot better than a dedicated pvp. It's expensive and takes time but I think it's well worth it for the sake of being flashy and awesome.

--------------------

DPS addendum:

Warriors are for doing damage, however, doing the highest damage per second isn't the focus of most warrior builds.

Don't ever listen to anyone who tells you warriors are not about damage.

Warriors kill stuff. As others have mentioned their secondary is used for utility, not damage. See previous posts for examples of this. A utility skill might be a snare to slow enemy movement, a knockdown, a teleport, or an enchant removal. The exception is the Conjure skills given by an elementalist secondary, which are used for raw damage.

Whoever told you that a touch ranger was even a viable build should be shot and completely disregarded. The touch ranger is an awful gimmick made for bad players to do moderately well by simply pressing 12121212. It has a very low effectiveness ceiling and will be laughed at and effectively ignored by anyone with decent experience at the game.

thanks for the info, I'll try to mimmick that build, cept with swords or something. But yeah I was asking about all the expansions, if I don't get them, will I not be able to use those crucial skills like flail? And do I need to unlock all of these in pve first before i can use them in pvp?

[warrior's endurance][frenzy][hammer bash][crushing blow][protectors strike][power attack][bull's strike][dash]

[eviscerate][agonizing chop][disrupting chop][bull's strike][frenzy][rip enchantment][rush](optional(rez))

[magehunter's smash][crushing blow][hammer bash][bull's strike][enraging charge][flail][death's charge](optional (rez))

[devastating hammer][flail][crushing blow][heavy blow][bull's strike][enraging charge][death's charge](optional (rez))

[crippling slash][gash][sun and moon slash][savage slash][frenzy][rush][mending touch](optional (rez))

Theres more, but these are the most commonly used...

Also, some good secondary profession skills you can pop in your build for extra support are:

[rip enchantment][rend enchantments][shock][conjure lightning][distracting shot](if your pro) [dash][death's charge][mending touch][power spike][grasping earth][dark prison][rending touch]

so are the top pvp warriors usually hammer knockdown warriors instead using sword or axe?

Also to get those skills, do I need to choose a particular secondary class? Thanks.

Sword is kinda neglected in PvP.

Most teams usually run 1-2 wars either axe or hammer.

Touch rangers are absolutely horrible, do not touch(lol).

[crippling slash][gash][sun and moon slash][final thrust][burst of aggression][enraging charge][conjure frost]
12+1+1 Sword Mastery
9+1 Strength
9 Water Magic

Spells awesome.

But yes, its only for RA... and nH pressureway. In GvG/HA, only axe and hammer wars are ran.

But really, its the skills as a warrior thats really important. Builds are just basics.

First off, all wars use knockdowns. Shock axe bars have 2 knockdowns, most hammer bars have 3 or even 4 if you bring shock. The warrior's endurance build which is so popular now is not a warrior, it's a button mashing lame because it only has 1 KD.

Axes are usually a bit more common, personally having played all 3 I much prefer hammer but it takes a bit more skill, mainly due to the flail without rush thing.

Swords are surprisingly viable, but most people heard they suck and use axe.

--
Really every single secondary class has at least 1-2 useful skills for a warrior. I have every single secondary unlocked for my war and bounce between them frequently. Currently I'm actually on /Mo due to lack of competent monks in AB today.

[devastating hammer][crushing blow][hammer bash][bull's strike][flail][rush][mending touch][enraging charge]

[Mending touch] is a rather overlooked skill for wars. It's not as aggressive as [death's charge], but saves me over and over in alliance battle if I'm split away from my leet healer monk. 90% of the time I run death's charge, it's a really incredible skill.

#1 piece of advice to a new warrior: Get pro awesome great with [bull's strike].

Which expansions do you have ?

There's only one prophecies-only build that works AFAIK
[power attack][dismember][protector's strike][bull's strike][frenzy][rush][warrior's endurance][resurrection signet]

This just happens to be "the" gvg axe build now, but there's a high chance it will be nerfed very soon.

yeah I only have prophecies, so should I just try axe for now since I don't know if I want to spend $70 getting all the expansions. Or is there only 1 I need for the hammer pvp build.

So when that gets nerfed he can use shockaxe, which uses Proph/Core skills.

thanks for all the help, I'm prob gonna start single player and try if I like it enough to buy the others. But yeah is it just me or is flail much better than frenzy? May be a dumb question but is there a way to know how much adrenaline you have isntead of waiting for the fire things to show up? How long would it take me to get to level 20 and have equal stats armor/weapons as those that you can create on a pvp char? Thanks.
