You are smart, other people are being dumb. Blindbot in AB is retardedly strong. People usually don't care much for utility builds, they want big dommage. Nukers are vulnerable, however, and need linebacking. I usually run water ele, people are usually all disappointed when I ping, untill they notice they don't die because people can't reach them

HOW people expect to stay alive running a bar full of >2 sec cast nuke spells and no self heal is beyond me.

I'm willing to ping and I usually ask other people to ping too.

Frankly, I don't get it. If you don't ping and my team (I usually play with two friends) feels nice, we'll let you in. If you turn out to be decent, yep, OK, not an issue. If you turn out to be an elemental attunement flarespammer, we'll kick next round anyway. If we're not feeling nice, we kick you for not showing your build anyway.

Of course, down Kurzick side there are enough grab'n'go PUGs that we end up seeing the guy on an allied team anyway.

I can't make up my mind which is worse: seeing the guy who didn't ping on an allied team, or seeing the guy who pinged a godawful bar. Either way round it's pretty much a guarantee that the team he's on is going to be bad. Sometimes I wonder if it would be a good idea for a solid 3-man team to take on one bad player to fill the last spot so that you can attempt to have some control over how they play the game rather than leaving them to form teams of bad players that mob and split and 1v1 and give away free points to the other side by dying all the time, and maybe teach them a bit about good tactics along the way in the hope they get better.

The base assumption is that they listen to you, though. It's also entirely possible that they rage when you tell them to change their build, or they rage when you ask them to ping... you can't do anything about that, really.

Interesting idea, but Im pretty sure it wont work. Even if you keep him in your team that random team still gets into your game, the result? there are now 5 bad people on your team and 3 good people, when you could've made it 4 and 4 :P

I've seen that most people are willing to ping their build, especially when I play monk and put the team together. (luxon side) If it is an awful build, I drop them without a second thought, (sadly as the above post says, there most likly going to be in my team anyways.) I dont look for specific builds if it can function, weather, a water ele, or a channeling rit, I'll take them along. What really pisses me off is when I say something like, you might need energy managment, and they just keep saying, Gogogogo, or 1, 1, 1, and completly ignore me. Or this one team that I was not the leader of, had their friend keep switching out to different professions. I said play what you enjoy, but know best. His answer, "I am good at all the classes because I have taken them through all campaigns" I refused to get into a pve,pvp debate and left the group.

Am I the only one who honestly doesn't care what builds people are running, and think it's funny and entertaining if someone in my team is running something bad?

I think all the newbies missed the boat a few years back when factions was released. Haven't cared in ages, in fact back when AB was first released people had terribad bars but still displayed a greater understanding or strat compared to todays players.

Players have their reason. Bad players usually wiki their builds anyway. I do sometimes for areas I don't usually play such as AB, or when I'm too bored of a build I run. Good builds get posted to wiki so why not use them?

Pugs are called pugs for a reason. If you want to organize them then more power to you but honestly if its not worth doing then don't do it.

People who won't ping invariably suck and are terribly insecure about the fact.

The other day someone was asking for an SH ele, so I rerolled because business was slow on hammer. Party leader was a W/E. When asked to ping he refused, saying his build was " secret ;-) " (with annoying smiley). Turned out he was defy pain, with flail on axe. I asked him why he was using defy pain, he said something along the lines of "STOP PICKING ON ME BAAAWWWWW", then proceeded to leave mid round.

It really never fails.

Although on one occasion a rit healer wouldn't ping, and he turned out to be prietty decent.

I agree, ultimately no build will make up for someone that bad at AB. Talent first, build last.

You can almost always tell the quality of someone's play style by their build.

and what can you tell from this build:

guardian
holy veil
life sheath
patient spirit
disrupting dagger
spirit bond
return
dash

terrible player, or just a really good player? something to ponder.

I invite players based on the quality of their character name. Why should I accept you when I can pick up all-stars such as ANGER PAINFIST? Their build comes second.

Looks pretty well thought out. I'd definitely give this guy a chance, provided we stay on the move.

This person is probably either a european HA player, or else not very experienced in pvp monking.

I'd ping them my example WoH build, and kick them if they didn't run it or switch to something that works.

LS bars just aren't practical in AB, I've seen lots of LS monks and invariably they end up running away after their whole party dies because they just can't keep up with any significant pressure.

This build would be much better with WoH instead of LS, condition removal over useless d dagger, and something more useful instead of spirit bond because its only use in AB is letting me go frenzy at the ele shrine.

Interestingly, after making the suggested changes, it turns out exactly like my example meta monk build that I hand out to several Luxons per day.

alright i'll admit it, that's the build i run in AB if i feel like monking, and only on the luxon side.

unfortunately you are wrong on both fronts: i'm Canadian (and before i became a Canadian, i was Chinese), and i'm quite familiar with monking (though i was never all that good at it).

i play that build because: a) i know how to preprot, which removes the need for a huge powerheal, and b) i have around 250 APM, and having an offensive ability on the side keeps me from getting bored. not to mention, it's also quite hilarious to pop a few skills. an interrupt coming out of a monk is probably the most unexpected, and potentially gamebreaking thing.

mostly though, i play that build because it's fun, and mildly more challenging that a WoH monk.

Patient spirit is all the powerheal you need really. You're going to be busy with that build though when you face degen, but it's still good. Screw meta bars, I pick good players over wiki tards any day. Life sheath is a pretty solid elite since it was changed.

Or shall we all bring the following:
Curse ff necro
WoH monk with 5 stances
Magebane/BA ranger
Dev/Magehunters hammer

Works, but it's dull, dull.......

Would totally give this build a chance, but I may just be bias because I love life sheath in ab, especially if you know how to pre-prot. I would keep an eye on him if I could and watch for the pre-prot, but if he did that ok, I would take this monk anytime. Would love to see DD hit a sin or ele in midcast. I would never see that comming playing as an ele or sin.

EDIT: Just saw your decscription in the above post

I'm not very fond of playing WoH in AB.
Most of the time Patient will be sufficient to push red bars up.
With some preprotting it won't go down that much.
I do agree on the SB change, I don't see much use for it unless the game changed a lot during the past few weeks.

When the team is facing serious pressure it's more or less the question if my team should really be there in the first place.
I've seen some guild teams do serious damage when I was monking, but most of the time it's PUG teams you face and those often don't allign skills. And they don't coordinate very well.

When taking a PUG monk I don't look that much at each individual skill.
Moriz's build would have raised a question on DD but if he's confident enough that he can run it he can take it. I'm looking for a solid team build, not the best individual build. It's the players who make the difference and skill selection is only part of that.
