If they refuse to show their bar and they play X/Mo... kick them.

They don't want to show you they play a Jesusbeam bar.

For the unknowing: Jesusbeam = Ray of Judgement...

Although I left PvE 2 years ago, the No Ping mentality is just rubbist. If people dont ping, just kick them. As leader of the party you need to know what you tag along.

Might be another reason... when you ask someone to ping, its like you're saying you know better. A lot of people don't like that kind of arrogance, especially when the person requesting the ping starts suggesting changes. Sure, we have all been in situations were someone pings god-awful garbage, but no one likes to be told that their bar is bad by someone they don't know.

LOL

I do ping, but because I run an air ele on AB they kick me without asking if i can switch builds.

Nukers in AB are dime a dozen, I run air to keep the rangers that pwn them away

lol at pve scrubs who get butthurt over a shitty build that they made and are afraid to show, because someone with half a brain will kick them. People want a team that can win not a squad of misfits and rejects.

i always make them ping cause i want to see wut people bring. if its passable i let them stay. if not well they get the boot.

I only ping if asked. However, I usually have more experience with my character than most of the people who are playing and I know what works or doesn't work. If they insist on changing my build, I just leave. It's easier than arguing the point.

Whether I'm the leader or just a member of the group, I will ask the monks to ping their builds to make sure they have the correct rez skill, hex removal, if needed, and heal skills, for the mission. Same with Rangers who have to use Frozen Soil.

Once, I joined a group who asked me to ping and kicked me after I showed my build. The told me they just wanted my build for their other guild members in the group.

People should ping in AB, because they should know it is not funny to go in with a W/E harmstorming ... and they should be confident about their build, come on, if it's good, then it's on wiki (or a variant is) and you dont have to be feared.

And you can just leave when people want you to change things.

This is the reason. Teams that want and require pings usually want to win and usually as a result consider AB and GW as serious business. Believe it or not many people actually don't want that sort of thing.

I ping. I expect other people to ping. I kick them if they dont. I have no problems changing my build if someone ask me to...so long as it isnt a completely pointless change.

I play to Win - if they want me to change a skill or two to mesh with the other members of my team, so be it.

I generally lead teams, so it's useful to know what builds you have at your disposal.

Didn't think so.
I didn't even get near any of that.
What I'm saying is, if there is a reason to show my build I and I'm told, then I show my build. But, at the same time I may require that the rest of the team show their build too.
If I then see or get the feeling the combo won't work, it's up to me to leave or accept at that point.

But, I can only agree the arrogance of random PUGs is way out of line. And, it's only based on cookie cutter builds, nothing ingenious at all.
So, where does that leave the challenge of the game?

I ask for pings when I want a specific build.
I ping when asked for a specific build.
When I see a build I don't like during play I ask to change before the next round.

In general I mainly look if people follow orders, stay with team and keep capping.
Splitting is possible when the team is doing fine and the player asks if it's ok to split (or when I indicate the player can split).

well i think a big problem is that people ask others to ping, while they don't ping themselves. this turns it into a 1-way street. rather than a team effort of cooperation and coordination, it becomes a matter of "i'm going to tell you what to do, and you have no say in the matter." (sure that may not be what you intend, but that is what is going to be implied)

i think if the leader pings himself first, and then asks the other player to ping, he will get a better response. better yet, instead of directing it at any one person, which may put pressure on the person, simply ask "everyone ping please".

I've never found it hard to get people to ping in AB
Just ask politely and there's very rarely any problem.

"What kinda X are you playing m8?"

"would you mind changing X for Y? would really help with A"

Never gotten any negative response from those kinda questions.

Sometimes people ask me to ping, which I usually do right away when I get into a team. Even more often the team refuses to show me what THEY are running. Pretty tarded because I can't adjust my bar to complement theirs, they just want me to ping so they can judge my bar, which isn't the point imo :P

If I'm leading a group I always ask people to ping. As long as they're not running utter crap I don't really care - it's AB after all. But as a leader you need to know what your team is bringing, and so does the rest of the team. And yes, I always ping my own build too.

If I join a team the first thing I do is ping. I expect my team to want to know what build I'm carrying.

The one thing I really hate in AB is running around with 3 random players if I have no idea what they're up to. Subpar builds are fine, so long as I know who's carrying them and what they're most likely going to be able to do with it.

I kick anyone who won't show their builds. Because 1) it is likely utter crap and 2) if you can't be arsed to show your build (omg, ctrl -click is too much effort), you're not likely to be a team player anyway. Which means that at the first opportunity you'll be running away from your team either solo capping or chasing after some other idiot.

Nail on the head indeed, I'm not gonna bother with scrutinizing other's peoples builds, but KNOWING your monk is a smiter can mean the difference between life and death

Don't forget the classic "leave the game right after round start".
