hexspam is merciless... so easy to remove frontline pressure with faint (7s recharge) empathy (10s recharge), and insidious (12s recharge). not just anti melee hexes that are the problem either (wastrels worry needs smiters boon imo) although they are a major part of it. Arenas are always going to be broken because a) anet dont care and b) skills are balanced for 8v8. cant play arenas for more than 20 minutes any more

Good call. Flames are just part of the happy environment that is RA, each one feels like a compliment.

Lol yesterday during a very long round I had to dchop wastrel's worry on purpose - the mesmer was spamming it on recharge against our monk, I've seen mesmers just straight up kill my monk so rather than let this happen I dchopped it to take some pressure off. Took me maybe 4-5 tries, but I had nothing better to do as opposing team completely lacked prot, but had multiple healers and I was only damage dealer.

I have holy veil on my warrior, it won me 1v1s vs. necros, but I don't really have the energy for it and if I use it I can't bring antidote signet.

Axe bars don't -really- need their Elite to be effective. Apart from that, RA = srs bznz!

Hope you get a foul feast necro and a monk that preveils. That, coupled with some disruption, is the only real thing you can go for. Or hope u can kill through shutdown without the aforementioned proffessions.

perveiling monks is one thing. getting a ff necro is another...getting a ranger or mesmer who can interupt reliably is like threading a needle from 10 miles away... with mittens on...

i had a range yesterday, who i held veil on, he stood right next to a mesmer who cast diversion on him, onto the veil... and he ignored it, fireing his magebane and dshot onto some other guy, who was likely doing nothing at the time... awesome

tbh i wouldn't RA if you have a high enough glad rank. RA most of the time is terrible w/ players who dont know what thier supposed to do. if you dont have a high enough glad rank, then go MB ele w/ distortion or ranger and spread poison or play monk(or dom mes).

Or just sync like most ppl do these days =/

The most reliable way to take care of hexes is a dev hammer warrior with iron palm. It's pretty easy to keep one person completely out of commission if you hit your bull's strikes and quarter knock. However, it's an incredibly boring style of play, just as bad as hexing.

So...yesterday i wanted to work on my Gladiator Title and decided to go monk in RA. Had some super epic things happen while i was monking like...

1-2 Sync Ele's used Ride the Lightening>Shock>Some other stupid skill>and i died like 5 seconds into the chain. One of my teamates said "Nice Healing"

2-Had a game with 3 monks, but i think we won though

3-Lol, my team left me to die while i was getting pwned by 2 wars then called me a noob

4-Had a game last the 20 mins(or whatever) and both teams lost due to no deaths (on a 8 win streak btw)

5-OH!!! NOT TO FORGET THE BEST PART!!! An ele with the build:
[Fire Storm][Flare][Ether Prism][Fire Attunement]-used flare alot...sad part is that a Defy Pain war died from the all-mighty Flare Spam

I love the RA community when your monking, you give it your all, and die due to extreme pressure and team still calls you noob

Most problems require a midline solution. There's nothing you can take for it; people simply have to run monk bars that don't suck and midliners that help monks. In short, they need to play Random Arenas like play Team Arenas.

This'll be closed after the double weekend.

on a more serious point. i 'wish' (although i know its never going to happen) anet fix this stupid syncing business... although it is remarkably funny when you totally destroy a synced team, when you have no monk

lost on 9 wins to a hexspam sync...

I play hammer in RA, with shock, works like a charm. When opposing team has, say a necro and a warrior, chance is the warrior will run up front. Hit him a couple of times with your spear to build adrenaline while trying to stay out of necro's range, and then quickly switch to hammer and quarterknock the necro. Pray the rest of your team kills the monk :P.

And be sure to shock Insidious Parasite, and watch out for asshole necros running shield bash, doesn't work very long so you have to catch them inbetween.

Same with blinders, they have short lasting blind (bsurge, bflash), so there will be a moment that they forget about you for a second. Spike him and interrupt the blind spell. When you camp a blindbot he will just hit his blind on recharge. Those dervish/paragons are much more annoying, you can dodge attack skills, but they can spam them. And usually they bring maiming so dodging is kinda suck-ish when you're crippled. Using terrain so they have trouble hitting you works but meh.

Whenb you're stacked by, say, IP and empathy and you can still score a kill, just die and have your teammates res you fresh and clean. Some warriors tend to totally stop attacking when they're hexed with that stuff, but one of the major strengths of a warrior is that you can still be threatening even when heavily shit on.

RA is just random, it works when you're lucky enough to get someone with draw, or FF or stuff like that, else you will be at a disadvantage anyways.

Most RA syncs are horrible, I beat them much more often then they beat me. I find it fun to totally destroy them as it's rahter painful an organised team gets rolled by a random. I have this theory that people rather sync in RA to practice then to get easy glads.
