Oh, I thought this thread was about saying WHO is / was the top PVP Rangers.

The links posted earlier are definite reading material to understand Rangers better and how to play.

Anyway, generally, as a Ranger you have a few tasks. You have probably the most utility in the team of 8, being able to split and 8v8, most of the time, at least.

Probably your most important tasks in the team is - 1/ Spreading poison / conditions (keeping pressure up), 2/ interrupt keys skills and disrupt the key roles in the other team (disruption), 3/ snaring / slowing runners. Of all these, disruption is probably the most difficult, since you must have good reflexes, good enough ping and pc, you 'should' know key skill animations / sounds, have good field awareness / positioning and also be able to 'predict' when a key skill is going to be used (after a KD for instance).

Splitting is when you move from your full team of 8, with maybe 1-2 other team members to make a strategic move, by either ganking the enemy base, harassing the enemy flagger, running a flag or going back to base to get rid of enemies killing your GH npc's and going for the GL.
Spitting can often be a specific team tactic from the beginning or later during a match.
There are other types of splitting, like offensive and defensive splitting (briefly touched above), but this is enough for now

Mostly everything that needs to be done on a ranger is listed..so top rangers to look at I would say are....

Tristar-Stealing Society [StS]

Zed- Straight Outta Kamadan [KMD]

Dhaina-History Repeats Itself [Cry]

Hadishi- I Disposable Heroes I [Dirt]

Champ- Under Pressure [uP]

Bloodred- The Valium Knights [Vk]

I probaly left out several others but from obsing countless matches of each of them Tristar, Zed, and Champ stand as probaly the best gvg rangers anyways in this dieing game.

Favorite to watch tho is tied between Tristar & Champ both are pretty amazing on splits.

Using savage-tab to quickly spread conditions is a completely different concept to spamming rupts in some forlorn hope you hit a 1/4th cast.

Your ping measures the time, in milliseconds, that it takes for your computer to send a command to the arenanet server and receive a response. Pretty much the only way of shaving time off (besides moving to texas or where ever the A net servers are located) of this is getting a faster internet connection.

All this information, even though it's gone a little off track, is unbelivably helpful.

And you know, sometimes it takes what you might think is obvious to get it fixed in your head, like whoever it was who mentioned watching for GolE. It's like DOH! **face palm** Of course. I mean, I play an ele, I should know this, but it had to be said.

I have watched Zed and Tristar, but not the others, and yes, watching these guys has been very helpful and at least I know I'm running the right bar. I'm a Melandru's Shot person myself with AP and Dshot. I switch between a Deldrimore recurve (cripple), poisonous longbow (poison) and a barbed shortbow (bleeding). Not optimal, but I'm working on it, at least I'm getting fast at switching. lol. Just bought a sundering bowstring and looking for a bowgrip of Fortitude and a "Strength and Honor" inscription.

Really, though, I'm finding this conversation very enlighting, great tidbits of wisdom here and there.

Lord damage.

@OP: good rangers are also talented at eating with one hand while 'perching,' or sitting in place while pinging the lord for damage.

You might also want to cap WoH.

1. Know when to interrupt what (WoH on pushes, RC when pressuring, diversion/apply when defending)
2. Be able to predict skill usage
3. Know when/how to push flaggers
4. Know when to split off and when to collapse or snare
5. Know when to go for lord damage and when to go for the kill
6. Spread poison
7. Consistently hit 1s all the time and fairly consistently get 3/4s

Different rangers have different strengths and weaknesses, and trying to watch only 2-3 rangers and copying everything they do is a bad idea because even some of the top rangers listed are really bad at certain aspects. Dhaina is really good at hitting apply poisons, but doesn't make the amazing flagpushes that Champ makes. Zed is strong at predicting skill usage, but isn't anywhere near consistent at hitting skills. Broken knows when to split off and collapse really well, but isn't as good as Dhaina at camping apply poison when defending.

You want a:
1) poisonous recurve of fortitude (general use bow. For spreading poison, etc)
2) crippling recurve of fortitude (when snaring people with melshot or crip shot)
3) Vampiric Longbow of Marksmanship (when killing spirits or NPC's)
4) Spear of fortitude + sheild of fortitude (switch to this when you are getting spiked. Also, be sure to have a reduced cripple duration shield for moving through lava on burning isle)
