Default IWAY Question

This is mainly geared towards teams that regularly run IWAY in the current meta. In larger maps, does the enemy team attempt to leave compass area of the dead pets, in order to stop your IAS? I assume not, since most of the maps are not conducive to this, but it can't hurt to ask.

In my experience, the other team doesn't really position well except against Rspike, but I've not been in an IWAY team in years.

It doesnt matter much, the pets need to be in radar range. Which is pretty large.

UW / Fetid / Burial it doesn't matter because radar range is almost, if not the entire map. Temples and Shrines they don't really need to be iway'ing for the objectives, although it can help them last longer when split. Golden Gates you'd have to trick them into killing their pets in the priest area and then fighting on the other side of the map. Courtyard, can't really do anything since everyone is in the center. Antechamber, another objective where they don't need to be iway'ing, but again it can help them split. HoH of course has different objectives but they will usually kill their pets in the center for KotH and cap points and use iway before splitting if they do.

So basically, no it's not unforeseen and easy way to beat iway. When dong was playing and when the current meta iway was at its peak the "good" teams could easily dominate cap points by mirroring shrines with split warriors that were difficult to kill with iway going. Against those teams it was important to have the discipline to not kill their pets so they couldn't iway at all. However, now iway is only being ran by very low or unranked players so you shouldn't have to worry about any sort of tactic brilliance on their part for objectives.

People used to try to do this all the time to us on underworld. We'd just stand next to our pets and laugh at them as they wait 45 minutes, run in and lose anyway.

If the enemy team leave compass area, they are bad. Just push them. Eventually their wars will know that they have to pressure the eles to win. Then, pull back. When you pull back into iway range, your wars can get their +25% and more dchops will be landed. The eles need to do nothing, just run and heal with kaoli.

Dark chambers is an iway-friendly map. So is any kind of cap point map, relic run and uw.

Fetid and courtyard are the worst maps.

Burial falls in the middle

Thank you for the quick and informative replies!

On a side note, who in IWAY teams runs relics? I'd assume a couple of the W/Rs, but it can't hurt to ask =)

In relic runs, it depends on the team u fight.

If its hex way or N/a blood spike, kill them before you run.

If its any other build. have 1 war and ranger block the front 2 stairs, 1 war and ele block the other 2 stairs. your ranger needs to be smart and dshot fire ele/ mesmer at this point. The other ele can help depending on how much dmg you take. If your block team is taking all the dmg, then there is very little dmg going on with the run grp, then the ele will come back to heal. Most likely, a mesmer will intuerpt weapons, so u need the other ele to help u out. As your eles and the ranger are at different positions, they can only go after one bunch of spirits. Therefore, u should be able to block for 3-4 mins b4 you have a death.

By which time, if u have decent runners, they would have won the game for you.
