Red engine gored engine gored engine gored engine go you mesmersssssssssssssssssssssssssss

btw, if you want to avoid "double cancelling", simply bind cancel action to another button. i personally use `. it's easier to reach and roughly in the same spot as ESC.

There's an option you can toggle so esc doesn't close windows if you want to play as normal with your inventory or minimap open.

I wish I would have known that 3 years ago :<. I've always had my binds set to default and never bothered checking things like that.

I only really used this trick recently in 2 situations.

1) To RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO around with players in gvg in order to trick them into moving into a melshot. I only do this for the lulz really, its not worth it.

2) I used it in HA to fake out a pd that was rupting my oath shot (had to fake it 3 times to get it off, 1xpd, 1xleech, 1xpd--> profit). Pro Oath in Iway, sup.

Btw, double clicking weapons in order to fake kinda sucks unless you actually 2 of the same weapon in your inventory. I prefer to open my inventory (not bags, inventory) and to drag my bow over the place where the platinum/gold is. Letting go of the bow while you have it dragged over the gold cancels attack skills in the same way as double clicking a weapon in your inventory, but you don't un-equip your bow (which is totally awesome).

I am amazed anyone could stand having keybinds to default. Default is just...gahhh

But then again control scheme is about preference so if you have octopus hands good for you.

Then again most people I tell about my setup do a doubletake, so i'm not one to talk.

WASD to move
Skill1: Shift
Skill2: Space
Skill3: Q
Skill4: E
Skill5: R
Skill6: F
Skill7: V
Skill8: C
Cancel Action: Z
Target self: X
Equip: 1,2,3,4

Try it. I dare you.

Keyboard movement makes you eat bull's. I know - I'm the best bull's eater around.

Also, @ Shred Di; I find clicking four times in rapid succession to be far superior than screwing around dragging weapons to a certain place in your inventory. You basically can't screw it up at all. In any case you have plenty of time to swap back, because you need to wait a half second or so for the potential interrupt to land before you reuse the skill. Seen plenty of attempted fakes where an interrupt gets eaten anyway because they immediately recast.

Did you actually bother to test out both ways before this post?

I admit that for someone who hasn't ever cancelled an attack skill before, double clicking a weapon seems alot easier than dragging+releasing a bow in your inventory. However, weapon swapping through your inventory has a huge disadvantage in it- the lag. There is an inherent lag when you double click something from your inventory to replace a weapon set that you currently have. It is the same lag that you get when getting up from a KD+trying to weapon swap immediately (you have to press "esc" or move to the side otherwise you get a lag when weapon swapping).

If you want to check out what i'm talking about, go and try to cancel a 1/4 sec attack (savage shot, dshot etc). I am able to cancel a 1/4 sec attack skill every single time that i try to by dragging+releasing. However, i haven't ever canceled a 1/4 sec attack by double clicking another bow.

As for the second thing you mentioned, about skills getting rupted because they tried to recast too soon. Only bad players have that happen to them. Take for example a 1 second cast time skill. Whether it be vs a ranger or a mesmer, the interrupt will most likely land anywhere between 0.6 seconds and 1 second, right? Therefore, if you are faking, the best time to cancel is just after the 0.5 second mark. If you cancel just after the 0.5 second mark, a) you have no chance of cancelling that 1/4 or 1/2 cast guardian, and b) anyone trying to rupt you will have to have reacted already, ensuring that they wasted their rupt.

I honestly can't remember the last time that i got rupted in the way that you mentioned. It just doesn't happen if you time your cancels right. That said, i do have my cancel in reflex reach (not Esc). So, i don't actually have a mad rush to move my finger to Esc when i want to cancel something.

Basically, the advantages that dragging+releasing has over double clicking are as follows:
1) no inventory swapping lag
2) more accurate cancel, can time it better
3) you don't unequip your bow

Disadvantages- I can't think of any. Of course, you don't have to cancel an attack skill once you've dragged your bow over the gold. If you don't want to cancel anymore, just don't release it over the gold.

P.S, the 1 second cancelling thing that i mentioned does apply v.similarly to bow attacks. Shortbow activation- 1 second, recurve bow- 1.2 seconds.

edit: I actually did manage to cancel a 1/4 cast with an inventory swap, it was probably just a lack of practice. But you still get the lag+the "lol, why am i in this bow" after the cancel.

You can still cancel by double-clicking a different bow in your inventory. If you have 2 of the same modded bows then you're at no disadvantage at all.

In my opinion, cancel casting isn't extremely important. Yes, it's pretty cool to do and not a lot of people can pull it off. But the fact is, the uses for it are minimal. You'll use it to avoid eating diversions and to fake mels shot or another elite from time to time. Besides that, you'll hardly ever use it.

Hell I can't remember the last time I saw it being used in a GvG. It's kind of a niche that isn't very exploitable, but it's still there. It's not at all like chiizu dancing, where it's very useful and commonly used everywhere. Chances are, when the time for you to cancel an attack skill actually happens in a real PvP situation, you'll have already missed it. So learn how to cancel attacks either way because the differences between the two methods are negligible, and you'll hardly ever use it anyways.

@ Shred. I think you completely missed the point in my post. I meant that being in a (wrong) weapon set after canceling was a nonissue, since you have a half second downtime after canceling where you can't be using a skill anyway, so you may easily enough swap back.

Pretty sure that double-clicking in your inventory instantaneously swaps - there is no lag involved, that's why it works to cancel attack skills and swapping via sets doesn't.

Besides, as DE mentioned, the differences in effectiveness are marginal at most - I just suspect that most people would find it easier to double click.

There isn't any lag. I've been doing it that way for a pretty long time.

Also, you don't need to switch bows either (so no need to quadruple click). Just have a shield in our offhand slot (which will be X'd out) and swap shields. Even though you're not technically switching primary weapons, it'll still cancel your skill. That way, you don't have to worry about switching back to our previous bow.

Wasn't aware that a shield swap worked, but it should have been fairly obvious. That saves me a few clicks in the long run
