Hey i'm pretty new and i'm prot monking it in RA right now.

Was wondering: Could someone give me timeline in terms of how much time you experienced HA vets put into RA before you moved onto TA only? And then from TA to HA? and then from HA to GVG?

I'd say take your own time, and "conquer" one style of play before moving onto the next. If you can get regular glad points in RA, move to TA, if you can win most matches in TA, move to HA.

I barely did TA or RA at all, but that was mostly do to the functional limitations of my machine. Anyone that's ever played with me will tell you it takes me a good 30-40 seconds to load on a good day, which in TA/RA means the match has all too often been going on for some time before I join.

I started PvP in february or march, and I went more or less straight to HA from PvE. I'm not far from my r9 now so things are going pretty well fame-wise... excepting of course my sabbatical from HA ranging from September to December. I could be r10 by now! ><

I have been playing this game for 11 months, 5 of those were me being constantly afk and/ or playing other games. In the entire 11 month age of my account, ive played a little over 2700 hours, 3/4 of that time from pvping.
I've played for 17 and have pulled around 3,500. I pvp too but instead of being an ass to those that aren't natural I helped train them and make them stronger pvpers.

My start in pvp was NOT because i got in when the time was nigh, it was because when i started playing, I cared enough to learn the game and not just throw myself in and expect to succeed.
Some People do care enough to learn some of the PVP standards but most learn the PVE part first because it helps get PVP skills, then when they come back to try PVP again they've forgotten the stuff and need a refresher. RA is a good example of Beat on/Get beat on PVP. Good way to learn small group synergy. then TA improves upon that. It's like Learning Math in school. You start with 1+1, move onto 1-1 and so on. Learn to drive before you hi-jack the GTO. RA would be your Drivers-Ed.

You're saying that people should progress from RA to TA, and then from TA with Rank 3 Glad, to HA. I have a R6 Hero title now and I do not even have a glad title... Maybe it's just me but I find glad points harder to come by than hero points and I have gotten all of my hero points through pug groups. What do you guys say about this?

@eroth: spam builds? wtf are you talking about? And about helping others: If a player is too stupid to realize how skills and team builds synergize, then they neednt be pvping. people shouldn't have to help other people through pvp, we have an observer mode for that. Leeching.... leeching used to kick ass, but now that nightfall came out theres no reason for me to afk and leech FA for amber, the prices dropped too much.

I didnt say anything about no PvE ing first, sure thats a great way to get skills for pvp, but using pve builds in PvP=no no.

Ra and Ta would be drivers ed if we were all asian maybe, but if you want to learn how to be a good "driver" then go staright to HA and GvG's... or just HA because im a tombs slut.

If you forget PvP because you've been playing too much PvE, kill yourself.

@ merciless: screw TA and RA. when a touch ranger can steadily be efficient in an arena, thats a dead giveaway to how low level the players are that play there. RA and TA= bad learning experience BECAUSE RA and TA!= HA.

Default new to PVP...but not all that different

I think I understand what u are talking about with PVE coming to PVP...I was helping a guildie in PVE and he wouldn't let me switch skills, weapons or anything. I would just go into an outpost, sell and leave...

I think there is a group out there that uses PVP strategies in PVE. Now that I have heros I and a guildie of mine design split teams of one player and 3 heros or complete spike builds based on the mission.

I seem to be rare...I helped a kid in PVE who was at the last mission of NF and had less than 15 skills...so I understand your frustration.

I just unlocked TA because I was so focused in PVE, but this is a great article and I look forward to getting in to me PVP...I am starting to like the meta game...that and I beat all three chapters...

Thanks for the post

THANK YOU. you are the kind of person that I'm talking about that I would LOVE to go through HA with. You care, thats the bottom line. You make an honest effort to learn PvP. Thank you, you are a dying breed of gamer.

Rank doesn't matter??? well i'll give you a example.. i "Had" a friend who is currently a member of a top 20 guild, i met him in TA, And well he was a kickass monk imo... so and a chat with another friend he also knew.. she and i decided.. we would risk the chance of taking this player to our .. Rank 11/12 Ha. group... Dephria.. Electron.. chopchop... Power of my rangers(me) .. Mia... and this friend... *who will not be named*... does great.. get to a relic map... hes rank 3 btw.. but a rank 5 glad or something???? ... i say ok 2-2 block on stairs...he positions himself ok.. im running relics then .. electron on vent.. WTF why did you move wtf move back block dude.. after a bit more of this going on im like stfu electron whats happening juz stop getting pissed off.. next thing i kno... they cap a relic.. and im stuck in foes trying to push our relic.. he does same mistake again... then later tells me .. he felt i set him up...? this is why i will NEVER <-- Ever <--- take a lower rank player with high ranks again... funny thing is that electron made him show his title and well... lets juz say things didn't go down too well for me since many of my team were angry after this..

Rule : Never take low rank people with high rank teams
Reason : Because they just don't understand HA well enough yet.

i'd personally say i contribute to the pvp community a lot, i Very often make r3+ Max rank 6.. and run simple builds .. req i say.. Must have a mic, Must have Vent, Must be able to play at least one class well, and we establish a build around that criteria..

But i learnt that you just can't take a lower rank into a high rank team without expecting important mistakes to be made..

While I realise you must have been 'born' with a PvP gene, people must learn their skills from somewhere. You said he was a great monk, therefore you aknowledge he had potential. He makes mistakes, your opportunity to teach him the right thing. Instead you lose him as a friend??

Sounds like a collection of rather weak arguments.

Take your spelling for instance, what if your teacher said "I have taught him to say learned atleast once", "lets flunk him out of life, he will never be able to do anything right".

It sounds like you gents might need to communicate better, oh did we forget this is just a game? There always is the next battle.

p.s. I can translate this for you,.... dude. I can like totally say that like WTF I said so lets juz say that *who will not be named* probably didn't understand half of what the heck you said in your last post anyway. So it probably didn't matter if you named him by name or not,... except that seems to be against the forum rules for some reason.

Firstly would like to say great guide and hope it will help and encourage some new pvp players.

Just one question : Whats the difference between a r6 player who is very exp and a r11 or r12 player that cant play all chars??

Powers says never take low ranked players into high ranked teams!!!!! I dont agree as some low rank players know even more than high rank players. Yes there is the matter of exp and the know how of game mechanics but I myself know some r4 or even r3 players that has a very good grip on what goes on in HA. So if some1 makes a mistake dont go insulting him/her rather help them and guide them to become better.

I was playing with an unraked guy and we let him in our r7-9 team . We gave him the skill Infuse to use. He at first he used infuse for every single time some1 got even a little damage and hence died coz of it. But we just gave it another go after explaining to him when is the appropriate time to use it and lets just say he now is on our friends list an HA with us alot.

So all high rank players , take some time out to help those players who lack exp. even if you just help 1 guy with 1 thing during the day , you will make a difference in his time here in GW!!!!!!!

I doubt there are any skilled, well-known players claiming they can play ALL chars good. I doubt you can and I doubt anyone can. If you can however you deserve eternal restecp and you should be one of the gods of Tyria.

Uses Deep Freeze and Calltraps and Sand Strom on tea.

Yeah its a good guide, but what power said about the monk making small mistakes well, they were only minor and if he was r3 he cant of known what to do.. even if he was a good monk. The thing is people always make mistakes, just usually people dont question higher ranked players/players they know and are friends with when something goes wrong.

i really do enjoy playing HA, its quite fun. i still play PvE sometimes but i log on and go to HA id1 if i get a grp, great and if not, well w/e i go and do some chest runs. i enjoy both places, i do thank my friend tho for getting me hooked on HA, mostly i was just a confidant for his build-making processes, but now i play with him and we been doing a lot of spikes as of late (r-spike glass and old skool, and both of our favourites, invoke spike).

the main things i have learned though, r3 takes time and effort. dont think playing HA for 30 min will automatically get you there. you need 180 fame, and most unranked grps get about 1-6 fame per run so even if you get 3 fame, thats still 60 grps and each one takes 20~ min so think 1200 hrs til you get ne where.

two more things:
1) r3 opens SOOOOO many doors
2) i noticed a sort of general behavior for ranks:
-r3 thru r5 "i'm good and i generally know what to do"
-r6 thru r8 "OMG y do u suxxors so much u need to keep up with the 1337 like me" *rage quit or kick*
-r9 not very talkitive b-spike rite of passage rank
-r10+ all of these people i have seen are calm cool collected, and very nice and helpful. they give builds, tips and such but dont expect a spot in a grp
