Quick question: I've been using Melandru's Shot instead of Burning Arrow. Is it more important to use one over the other?

Or perhaps use AP-->Burning Arrow-->Hunter's shot for poison, burn & bleed?

I've gotten 4 in a row with a few decent teams but that 5th is still elluding me. I might try my ele or my monk, but I'm a horrible horrible monk.

I always find that Cripple is just wasted in RA. Most people don't understand the concept of kiting so you're better off going for + damage, but both skills are decent.

I'd probably recommend Burning Arrow over Melshot now that the recharge is a bit higher. The vast majority of the time that cripple doesn't hurt anyway since no one kites properly, so it'll only make a huge difference if you're the last guy standing vs one or two melee guys.

I'm more fond of taking Magebane for the elite for interrupting res sigs through stances or getting mind blast through distortion and such. Plus with Magebane you can drop savage shot for debilitating shot without losing any interrupt power.

WOOT WOOT! I did it. I got off RA and into TA. Won 8 in a row. Woot woot!

I made a PvP monk so I had access to all the skills and weapons and runes and on my third attempt I got a group that I just synergized with. An ele, a mez and a ranger. I basically used the Wiki build for a WoH monk, went with Derv as secondary to use ummm... armor of sanctity and well, the rest went pretty well.

Oh, and boy did I kite! Run, heal, run some more, heal, run, heal, stop heal and run some more, see Monk run. I freakin' made loops around those stupid arenas running away from the warriors and dervs and assassins. I think monks have a huge target painted on their foreheads or something.

I learned to kite playing a ranger... I'm pretty good at it if I need to be.

So can't wait to find a team for TA. /cheer

EDIT: Point taken about Melandru's shot. I'm pretty good at interrupting so I'll try magebane.

Congratulations! But I hope you are aware that without a decent glad rank you'll have a hard time finding groups in TA. Unless you have a guild or friends group, that is.

My advise would be to stay in RA to learn the basics of your choosen profession until you are glad 2 or 3, before attempting anything serious in TA. And if you want to jump to HA (which I would recommend even less than TA given your current PvP level), it should be not that hard to get a 15 streak starting from RA and unlocking it in your way to the glad title.

Good luck with that!

Hey thanks. And I think that I may be on the right track, because I'm going back to play more RA just to make sure I know what I'm doing. I got 8 on my monk, but I'd like to do at least 5 on my ranger, 5 on my ele and 5 on my necro so I know I can play all my 4 main characters (I have a warrior but I'm not good with melee, and I have a 'sin too, but this doesn't seem to be a popular class for RA, TA and HA). And I think the 15 streak is a good idea.

Im' the kind of person who doesn't want to burden a team with my noobyness so I'll continue to torture random teams at TA. I did pretty good with my monk through, surprise surprise. I didn't think healing was my thing, but it's more fun in a group of people then a group of H+H, with which healing is a snoozefest.

90% of the time, its all about the luck of your team, but if you really want to maximize your performance to support your team, best thing is to go monk, or pressure.

(Never do spike builds) there one shot booms and then ur either dead, or they are dead, sadly most likely ur dead.

Either run apply poison spam with burning arrow, or go spam hexes if you are not experienced in healing

No.

RA is terrible. You can't realistically learn anything about GW from it on your own. Without already knowing the game or having someone to guide you, playing RA is worthless.

Get a guild. This is the single best thing you can do to improve your PvP performance.

You can learn basically everything you need to know in RA and apply it to other formats: Weapon swapping, kiting, positioning (to a lesser extent), target prioritizing, interrupting, linebacking, quarterknocking, an ability to watch the field, and pretty much everything else that you need to individually know as a player in high end PvP can be learnt from RA. Once you have a firm grasp on these skills, then you just need to know the layouts of all of the high end GvG and HA arenas and work on team coordination on vent and the like.

Get good at that build, and you will win 5 in RA pretty easily. Degen is quite powerful in RA since they dont always have a way to remove it, so if your constanly spamming the entire team with apply poison and kite intelligently while rupting their key skills, you can basically lame teams to death.
3 rupts are too much, drop savage for lightning reflex, magebane and d shot is enough

drop 1 of the utility monk skills and bring deb shot, bad monks drop in less then a minute

Can you learn these if either you already know about them, or have someone to coach you. Just playing RA on your own, with no guidance, and you won't progress much beyond c-space. Aside from that, many of the things used in higher end PvP just aren't as effective in RA.

Awesome I crippled that warrior, but his target isn't bothering to move. I brought some spot hex removal, but no one is calling any hexes, so I can just throw it and hope it hits something. Flail is terrible on a sword or axe warrior, yet in RA it does its job perfectly well due to lack of opponent skill.

Learning to win in RA will help you do just that, win in RA. Everything you just mentioned as a skill is just not prevalent in RA. Sure, one can attempt to learn in RA, but any effort is just not going to have a reward and the player won't see these skills being effective. Do you kite well? If you can break up a strong GvG spike into manageable packets, then yes. If you break up a dolyak signet warrior's damage into something manageable, its just not the same thing.

Of course the player level in RA is less than that of serious GvGs, but the basics still stand. Sure you can have a 10 streak running bad builds or simply playing badly if you have good enough teammates or bad opponents, but if you learn the basics, it will be a lot easier. Sure you can win while monking without any kitting, but do kite and will be much easier. Learn to shield-swap and you see how you stay alive much longer. Learn to quarter knock and the enemy team goes down a lot faster. Etc.

Obviously monking in RA doesn't teach you how to infuse a spike, and grasping the basic PvP concepts only by yourself would take a long time. But read some posts around here and watch the B, and RA can overall make you a better PvP player by helping to put your basics down.

But in the end, it all comes down to what you enjoy the most. I think for the OP, this would also be a good way to choose wether or not to stay in RA.

Do you mind me asking what 'quarter knocking' is?

I want to chime in by saying that I did most certainly learn to play better PvP in RA because I figuerd out the basics before moving on. I would read some guides, talk to some experienced people, watch some videos, then put into play what I learned. I recently joined a PvP guild (fun!) and when I went into play TA with them (we won by the way), I felt very comfortable. sI knew what to expect and because I knew the basic I was able to listen to the caller and focus instead of fumbling with basic shit and distracting myself. I was on my ranger so I spread poison and interrupted when the leader would ping a target.

However, I'm an active leaner and like to be informed as much as possible before I start on something new. Maybe most people are not like that. But RA was a good learning experience.

And thanks to my new PvP guild [GRIM] for taking a chance on me.

If you get your timing right, you can chain knockdowns so the target doesn't even get to cast a 1/4s spell when they get up from the first knockdown. This can be very useful, since monks in particular will often cast a fast 1/4s spell (e.g. Reversal of Fortune) as soon as they can to try to stay alive.

On a similar note, if you have interrupts you can time the interrupt to land right as the knockdown target gets up - a well placed distracting shot, power leak, etc. can be deadly.

It's doable but takes practice.

Aye, it's a good thing to keep in mind when you're teamed with a decent Warrior. Interrupting a Patient Spirit with a Powerspike is very satisfying :>

Actually, TA is harder then HA. If someone can pull up a good win streak in TA, without meeting only RA teams, he is better then the average HA player.
