Default First time PVP

Hey All

Until so far, I have only played PVE on guildwars (prophecies and nightfall campaign, I have factions but never played campaign (yet)).

But I want to try PVP, but its all a bit overwhelming,

Is it better to take your PVE character or build a new PVP character.

Do you get all the skills at once (even elite ones) if you start a PVP char?
How do you get your equipment (weapons, runes, etc) if you start a PVP only char?

what kind of battle options are there?
and what is a good one to start with?

Is PVP only on the battle isles?

what are the zaichen (sp?) quest things? are they against NPC of real players?

thanx for reading and maybe answering my questions

greets

Make a PvP char. Once you gain some experience and understanding of what PvP needs, you can purchase the items needed and bring your PvE char over to be PvX.

Jumping right into PvP with a pve main is a common noob mistake.

Make a PvP character and you'll find that a lot of things (making equipment, what types of PvP there are, zquests, skill unlocks, etc.) are pretty self explanatory.

I'd suggest starting simple with Random Arenas and Alliance Battles (you'll need a guild or at least a guest invite to a guild for the latter) or Fort Aspenwood/Jade Quarry (the NPCs to get there on a PvP character can be found in the Great Temple of Balthazar.

Make a PvP char. you start at level 20 on any chosen profession and receive a set of base skills, aswell as all the skills you have unlocked in the campaigns (by buying/capping the skills).
you can then press 'J' to get up an equipment menu, this will alllow u to choose any insignias on the game and then any runes a weapons mods u have discovered in the campaign (by identifying only, NOT buing).
to get more skills, u can buy them with balthazar faction u earn from the pvp
I'd suggest you start at Random arenas because it is funny and probably the easiest form of pvp for a beginner

You need about 200k+ if you want to get your PvE ready

Different armor sets
Sup Vigors and other runes and insignias
Around 10-15 shields
Several 40/40 sets
Crapload of melee weapons

The list goes on I'm not listing them all

Have fun

It should be obvious which character type you should take. First, get to know all the maps of every place. Next go look up builds, and join a dedicated PvP guild. Have a good attitude and you are ready to start.

More than I paid to get my characters PvP ready. Generally dont need more than one armour set, just an interchangeable piece of two (headgear+whatever). Runes are relatively inexpensive (except sup vig).
40/40 sets can be obtained from collectors and cheap greens.
Unless your speccing lightly into and attribute, shields are relatively inexpensive, go for crap skins and R12/13.
Melee weapons are not to heavy in terms of cost either, again go for R12/13 and find some cheap mods here on Guru.

True, it is expensive to set them up, but it would only reach the 200k your describe if you buy elite armour, and decent skinned weapons at r8/9/10.

First of all, i'd suggest you to finish Factions at least with your main PvE character, to unlock some skills and elites (probably it's less painful than grinding balthazar points). Also consider to buy EotN for other useful skills.

When you have unlocked the most useful skills (you can check the builds here on guru, or on PvX to have an idea) the better thing you can do, as others said, is to roll a PvP character.

Your new PvP character can use all the regular and elite skills and all the armor's and weapon's upgrades hat you have unlocked in your account.

To build up your equipment, you can press K to show the attribute window, then click the Equipment button. In the next window you can build as many weapons as you want, with all the upgrades you have unlocked, and you can also craft your armor with the runes and insignias that you have unlocked in your account.

To have an idea of the different types of PvP you can check this wiki page:
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Pvp

If you want to learn the organized PvP, i suggest you to start in Random Arenas (IMHO JQ, FA and AB aren't so good in teaching PvP). IMHO the easier class to run in RA the first times is Ranger, the harder is Monk.

However, it's better that you try all the classes because to play effectively you must know what everyone else in the battle can do, what to do against every other class, etc.

Organized PvP is only in the Battle Isles, while JQ, FA and AB are Factions' Competitive Missions. Zaishen Quests ask you to repeat PvE missions, kill PvE bosses, and win PvP matches, and the rewards are gold, experience and faction points, zaishen coins.

Maybe the first times in RA will be hard, but don't give up.. it will become really funny in the future^^

also, read guru's guides about PvP, they're really helpful

Definitely unlock skills + runes in pve first, grinding Balth faction for a decent build is painful and will make your teammates rage. Once you get them at a skill trainer / rune trader you have them unlocked for pvp and heroes.

I suggest you start with Alliance Battle, it can be quite organized and fun if you go with a good organized team and people might even help you if you're nice (make sure you join a Luxon guild for this). Random Arena is very frustrating for even experienced players, although it can be intense and fun it's not such a great place to start.
