This is the most fun I've had in GW for a long time. The only thing I'm disappointed about is name "codex arena". Call it the honor arena. The title track names should also be about honor as well culminating with "DF honorable".

Spot on. I have no idea why people with little or no PvP experience get mad when pugs are looking for people who have actually played the format. No, having a title doesn't mean you're good, but it does mean you have some experience. People who are looking to get lots of wins aren't going to want to team up with players who have never played organized 4v4 (or PvP other than RA, AB, etc), it's a simple logic.

Instead of QQing about not being able to get into pugs because of 'elitism', make some friends and play. Playing with friends is going to be more fun than playing with randoms anyways.

"rank discrimination" is merely a symptom of GW's lack of a proper matchmaking system.

Sure but glad 2 is anywhere up to 399 10game winning streaks, or at least it was the way I did it. 4000 wins at a format shows some experience (and thats just the ones that happened in at least a streak of 10, not counting the thousands that ended at 7-8-9 wins in a row), but g2 is not sufficient for most pugs, and g4 isn't even sufficient for others. Just saying you know, it helps to get it in perspective.

I can't even imagine how much of my free time I would have had to spend playing computer games to get g5. I'd be curious to know some peoples /age in here.

For the people that don't know, the skillset of the day is there. Also, the lack of rank meaning someone is a "PVEtard" is the dumbest assumption ever. Its fairly accurate in some cases, but for every know nothing, wahwahwah PVE player, there are those who are willing to learn and adapt so long as you dont allow proof that shows what he does with his/her time daily to ostracize them. In any case, Discrimination gave me a bad taste, but this is why from now on im checking the page I linked and am gonna create builds and find people who will run em. Good times, indeed.

I think people who went to TA regularly will like and play this game mode. They will also excel, as their experience about picking the right skills will give them an edge.

But I doubt it is going to attract the more casual gamers more than the shitty HB's or TA.

This minigame-style PvP just does not cut it. If people want combat, they should not only watch the /Aion emote, but play Aion.

It is quite funny, but I believe Aion's PvP and PvP balance (yup!) to be highly supreme to Guild Wars, and also more enjoyable. Shocking, isn't it.
The absolutely funny thing is that I personally like the way Guild Wars handles PvE with missions and all that much more than Aion in more Asia grinder style tradition does it.

Can't help, it should be the other way around. :P

Aion PvP is shit. Flying combat is shit. Flying combat for melee is even shittier. Ganking is, well, it's ganking. It's fun to do, but it's still shit. Fortress sieges are major zergfests that require no coordination. I have absolutely no idea how you think that comes close to being superior to GW.

Sure, you can say it's more enjoyable right now because GW PvP is 4 and a half years old and has stale metas, but superior? Far from it my friend.

My impressiong on sealded deck:
I did my first match earlier and I picked my skills and then after I had them all my screen got spammed with something saying my skills were restricted when they weren't. So then the battle started and I'm like trying to monk with release enchantments and heavens delight while a warrior on my team is spamming up my whole screen "I have blind on me!" and then the 25908280 other hexes he has as well that I can't remove because I have no hex or condi removal thx to sealed deck and so after everyone dropped in 3 seconds I decided to not play sealed deck ever again and maybe go back to runescape rofl.

I have g5 on two accounts, and yet I get the same shit in Heroes Ascent because I don't have r10/11+++. Go figure.

Seems pretty fun to me. We made a build with an assassin primary healer today, and only lost a few matches over 2-3 hours. The lower power level of the builds overall actually makes map strategy more important than its ever been on arena maps, and seems to accentuate player skill/tactics to approximately break even with the loss of highly skillful builds (so the better players are still generally winning even if a lot of the character builds are simple/spammy).

I've been thinking about this and I believe that putting codex to 5v5 would work better. Unless we get an amazing roll, 1 defense and 3 offense is going to blow up too fast. Two offense and two defense (or at 1 defense and 1 strong defensive support) feels too defensive, makes matches drag out, and is practically mandatory.

6v6 would suffer from the same problems as the old tombs where 2 defense is not enough, but three will drag matches out.

To me it seems that 5v5 would settle better without forcing longer matches.

This is comparing GW's PvP arena "minigames" to "world pvp", and this is where GW just sucks balls. (Running away from a gank squad or hunting down smaller groups has an excitement factor that comes close to Heroes Ascent, while it is infinitely easier to set up teams on the fly.)

The prescribed drugs to cure this, aka fixed builds a la "Costume Brawl" and pick your daily meta a la "Codex" does nothing to change that.

As I said, people who liked TA will still like the new format. But who liked TA? Was the format more popular than the rather unpopular HB? I am not sure about that.

So no, even if flight is clumsy and odd at best in Aion, Aion's PvP is not shit, it is something I would like to see in Guild Wars 2's take on "world pvp", they are still very vague when they talk about it in interviews.

I bet it is closer to Alliance Battles than any other GW pvp format. A mass pvp format. I am a bit afraid of the more organized game modes, but for a game that is called "Guild Wars" it is still quite funny that "Guild vs Guild" is not the heart of the game.

Um, almost too long to read.

But I think it is important to voice my opinion that "Codex" might be an improvement to crappy and unpopular formats, but still does not really cut the mustard. I think there is still not much more of an audience for this kind of game mode in the long run. (Before we get sidetracked too much with the merits and drawbacks of Aion's PvP, I would still see it as some kind of shining example for GW2. FYI, Aion expiring, but playing LOTRO in full quest-driven pve mode atm.)

When I first read this it sounded like an interesting idea, but I'm not sure it would be good. I think the first 2 days we have seen the capability to have very defensive teams, but that won't be every day. For example, just looking at today's skills, rits don't have any healing whatsoever, and monks are severely gimped (they don't have rof either). I also see searing flames, glowing gaze, and fire attunement. My guess is people are going to be blowing up today regardless.
