Do you imagine they would have been more successful if you couldn't earn experience from them?

I thought they were a great way to get some PvP experence. But so many of them have been closed it is just not worth it anymore.

They were fun until people would bring a non core class into them and start rocking the shit out of the core prophecies classes, thus making it no longer any fun.

They were fun when people played fairly (no max AL armor, elites, or skills that would require the player be run (this was before the unlocking business)) and they were populated with at least a full district. Now they're mostly empty since the only reward is fun.

I tried to get people back into the low level arenas about 6 months ago. Me and a couple friends of mine threw an event with the help of Blade in SJA, gave out 15k kurz, dest gaunts, glacial gaunts, and a crap load of gold. We hoped it would bring people back but it didn't work.

I've always pushed for RA to be turned into something like costume brawl, with set skill bars(but more of them, that rotate), fixed AL, atts and HPs regardless of your gear, sort of a way to weed out the oath shot meteor shower spammers, but the idea has met with resistance(they want RA the random luck based mess it is). I bet they could stash something like this in the old arenas of the various campaigns and towns, and link them all to the same pool of players. If you can set a level 10 guy to level 20 stats for EtoN or give people set skills for the costume brawl, you can give them an arena where they can be wearing any armor, any weapon, be at any level, and give them a taste of perfectly balanced PvP(monks that don't have overkill healing, warriors with actual utility and not jut 7 5 energy attack skills and endure pain, ect). leave it PvE characters only, maybe even reward with gamer points, call it the training arena or something. Have a guy who'll hand out "training weapons" and a choice of "training bars" that you have to equip to hit the enter button.

There are two entirely different genre's of PvP. There is legitimate competitive PvP and there is "pwning nubs" pvp. The former is best characterized by all participants being on equal ground: GvG present in this game. The latter is characterized by gaining as much of an advantage over your opponent and fighting on unequal ground: "world PvP" in just about any standard MMO.

All pvp in GW is standardized, level 20, max armor, max weapons etc. The low level arenas were not standardized other than level ranges and as such opens itself up for the latter type of pvp. Anyone who played when the arenas were actually populated remembers just how bad those arenas were filled with twinks. Eventually they removed elites from ascalon arena, because nearly every match had at least one player with droknar's armor, the two attribute quests done (+30 attribute points so 75 at lvl 10 rather than 45), and a full skill selection. Those arenas were terrible.

Yea I recall deciding to participate in the Ascalon Arena, only to find people actually took the time to acquire max armor and a plethora of skills just to win. Remember a someone claiming that i "failed" just because they were a lvl lower then me. People seemed to exploit low-level arena for their own satisfaction and confirmation of their "skill".

The one place where it's possible for it to be standardized is the one place where they don't have it.
Pre-Searing.
It'd also give you something to do there...
