Default Random Codex Arena

I was trying out the new Codex Arena earlier today and I got bored real quick of it. Mostly because all the battles were the same. Long boring matches where you meet teams that look exactly like your own. I think it would been more fun if it was more random, even though the builds will still be very simillar. (No shit.) So my idea is to add a new arena that works like Random Arena but with the Sealed Deck type of buildmaking or add one. Make it like RA and Ta was.. Even though they removed Ta for some reason..
What do you think?

TBH you can take many of the Codex builds right into RA and score glads as long as the right team combination comes together.

I don't really see the point of this. Random arena is already completely random. You face and play with random teammates that can have the shittiest and most unorthodox builds, and can be bad at the game. Whether you lose or win is heavily dependant on factors you can't control. Now this is what random arena is all about and that's what I love about it.

Sealed Deck random arena would do exactly the same. The gameplay experience would be exactly the same, only there is less build variation. I really don't see how it is truely something better for the game.

Moreover, I don't think there is a population to crowd SDRA, and if there is, it's diverting players away from other sources of PvP.

Really there are countless other "cool" pvp things that are fun. Like organised 12v12 ab, or 8v8 random arena style gvg, hero battles with 4 humans, or random HA. But in the end none of those things is truely viable or actually adds something to the game.

I'd rather have devs spend recourses in balancing the game properly.

Being a "random" sealed deck, there would be far less organization and more chances for people to be forced to run something they've come up with and not what all of the other teams are calling for and have as a community come up with with the limited skill pool. Sure, you could try to watch other players to see what's working for them, but then there's also the lack of synergy that you'll get with it being random to throw yet another monkey wrench.

I like random things. They keep the game interesting and fun when you just want to hit a button and play.

I'd LOVE to see this
/signedTWICE

I dont like to pug and I dont have a guild team who wants to play codex. But I want to play Codex.

RA as it is, is ok, sorta, but it would be fun to play it codex-style - especially if we can get the same deck and same rules - some sort of code that kept 2 of the same class from entering a group would fix HUGE problems in RA. And class-only Elites. Yes please.

Besides, a response of /notsigned makes no sense...anyone who doesnt like the idea doesnt have to play it, but no reason to stop the people who do want it.

The only way I could see something like this not harming the game would be if current RA was replaced with this for a couple of days a week. Otherwise Kaon is right, you're diverting players away from other PvP formats.

I'm sure that there are plenty of people that don't want to form groups to play PvP, however there are plenty of arenas that cater to those players; RA, JQ, FA and (arguably) AB.

If those players aren't satisfied with those choices then the solution is not to saturate the game with unorganised PvP formats but to change the ones that already exist, or to understand why so many people don't want to play the team based PvP parts of the game and make changes to encourage it instead.

You'd be fragmenting the player base too much, lots of modes means less people playing in each one.

LOL diverting players from other formats? seriously?? noone is making them 'divert' - in this scenario the 'diverted' players WANT to go play this new format...why are you trying to keep players in certain dried-up and used formats? here's a change that might actually fix RA, AND be fun...thats good.
"Dont add Codex-RA! people will leave JQ & FA & AB & RA and go play it! NO!"
thats a god-awful terrible way to look at things. If there were more & different modes and arenas - as suggested: hero battles as live teams, 8v8 random, etc...thats NOT a bad thing.
Variety isnt our enemy, folks. <insert 'missionary-only' comment here>

It kinda is at this point, it's unrealistic to think the PvP playerbase will increase anymore so if people are playing a new arena they aren't playing an existing one.

so? if only half of the old PvP players who stopped playing GW came back, it would increase substantially

regardless, here we have just recently lost a lot of players due to the deletion of TA

deleting arenas to divert players isn't working, they just stop to play GW, they don't start playing CA because TA is deleted

such is a highly questionable philosophy anyway, 'force them to play the new one by deleting the old ones', wow, smart
let people play what they prefer
cause if you don't, they'll prefer another game than gw

how long does it take to form a team of 8? or even of 4? how often people don't play at all cause they don't have enough friends online and don't wanna pug? how often people ragequit and stop playing due to whatever reasons? so what if they would play in an added random codex - or whatever arena instead of closing GW and not playing at all? Oh no, then less will play elsewhere? Seriously, ridiculous.

it may certainly be unrealistic at this point to think the playerbase won't increase anymore, looking at how anet wings things
but it sure as hell isn't unrealistic to think the playerbase will further decrease, especially when playmodes are simply deleted, and players wishes are discarded like trash

and if people are playing a new arena, they aren't playing an existing one, is flawed 1:2=.5 logic, i just had to look at my friendlist how many old players came back to give CA a chance => playerbase increased at least temporarily (but left again soon ofc)

if it wouldn't be for Anet doing nothing but bullshit but some good changes instead, they would stay, too

people asked for a TA ladder, an observer, new maps, simple balances and adjustments, not random skill garbage CA, brutal deletion of root formats and iway zoos, just like people asked to fix VoD, not to delete it, but look at smiter's boon and all the like - horrible balance updates

anyway, the bottom line is, you can actually add new arenas without deleting old ones, without losing overall players, and without worrying about diverting players - cause they play what they want, anyway - a deserted arena is rightfully deserted and still better than a deleted one

Bring back TA, replace RA with random codex and the codex title. This would probably satisfy the most people.

Old PvPers coming back happens occassionally, this is usually very unrelated to new/changed content though, the population might peak for a few days right after implementation but most of them will quit again within a few days anyway.

I don't think a lot of people quit because TA got deleted tbh, a lot of the 'high end' TA players simply moved over to CA and well TA hasn't really had much of a playerbase for a while now.

Evidently lots of them do.

Making groups for CA isn't any more difficult than making groups for TA..

This generally has very little to do with it, the latter maybe (although it's hard to please everyone) the former doesn;t make such a difference when the new playmode is basically an improvement of one of the old ones and the other old one is something that should never have existed in the first place.

You have no idea what you're talking about, the removal of VoD and the change to Smiter's Boon were some of the best changes ever made.

And developer time spent making it available and keeping it running.

I tried my hand at codex yesterday, and the most frustrating thing was the long wait to get a game; and when we did, we kept running into the same people running the same team builds as us. Make codex random, do away with the "LFG r6 glad" bull**** and the annoying party forming process. (Even getting friends or guildies to come down takes time) Get people actually INTO the game and maybe you'll see more people in codex than just the same 10-12 faces.

It would be even better if they introduced a costume brawl type format--everyone with the same bar, but i doubt thats ever going to happen.

From Linsey Journal
Quote:
we feel that this plan has a lot of win/win and will ultimately be good for the health of the game. We get to replace two formats that suffer from complicated issues and dwindling player bases with one new format that we already know is fun, popular, and will be easier to support and maintain. Not only that, but because of the random nature of Sealed Deck, it’s a format that has a lot of longevity built into it
LOL
