Default AB General

Cause no threads make me sad

AB seems to be in a better state than a couple months ago; more Grenz (and occasionally Salts and beyond) and less Ancestral. Don't know what to attribute it to since the only good Kurz AB powerhouses (FouR awhile ago, RUN recently) have disbanded and/or come to Lux.

And... uhhh... SH is bad. Discuss!

I think guilds have very little to do with it, because many old run members switched to exit, or in my case, to UCW, so the kurzicks are fighting the same ppl with other guild tags behind their name (RUN pretty much always has been a luxon guild). A couple of them did switch to kurzick side too. People switch sides for lulz often too, fighting your own alliance members can be pretty nice. There's just better players on kurz side lately, and better players in general.

People don't have any other place to go for cool 4-way pvp I think, but that's just my 2 cents. Had some pretty entertaining matches last week, and we got stomped by good balanced teams quite some times.

Maybe people are catching on to the idea that AB can actually be fun, an that AB, as a format, is rather healthy, especially when you compare it to shitholes like Codex and RA.

That and SH eles have been overrated since day 1 E/P is handsome for mobility, but vulnerable as hell. OK they spike well with hammer warriors, but SH isn't the only thing that can accomplish that.

i like Ab, it's not as servous as much of the other PvP, i just wish the map rotation would get round to luxon territories some time.

AB is a fun arena to play yes but the problem is waiting 20+ restarts before each fight ( at some hours , it's even impossible to join ). This is due to the fact that a win in Ab is around 2k pts and a loss 300-500pts. In JQ/FA , especially JQ , you can get more pts even if you lose. Aswell , pve areas overfarmed as usual grants you 50-60k points per hour.

I do not mind since AB is the most fun of these , but problem is most of people do play only for the title , thus leaving AB and FA very empty. Maybe they should give more points to encourage people to come back .

FouR (my guild) was always a FA guild we just got bored of fa for a while and went AB for a while. Then we reformed into qT which went back to FA.

I have a theory!

We have been getting Keys and Canyon maybe once every 3-4 weeks and, as it has been pretty much like clockwork, I very much doubt it has anything to do with players or guilds on either side.

I think maybe its getting 'fixed' but then again why would Anet care about AB when the rest of the game is pretty much bugged. Idk just my thinking.

But yeah AB lately has been more fun as people are switching sides a lot so you're not getting the same teams/people all the time and,at times,it has been more of a challenge. Chain Blackout is always a hoot to monk against *cough*Iced*cough*

Weird. Most of the poeple I play with are r12 and really don't give a crap about anything else but fun.

Higher rewards would bring more people. Anything to liven up the dead hours so I can get a match at 3am without waiting 20 minutes is something I'm in favor of

Gave up on trying to finish my r12 Kurz a long time ago, all we were really getting was a bunch of srs bsns luxon teams farming gimped kurzick teams. It's pointless when the other idiot groups get base locked in the first couple minutes; at that point no amount of heroics from your group can result in a comeback.

Agree completely about the nuking concept too, on every map besides ancestral / canyon I'd rather have a curses necro for defense or second warrior. The old nuking and fast capping concept will never go away though because people are dumb and will never realize you dominate AB by dominating the other teams.

Most ab teams are ill equipped for dealing with hexways (no offremove, no/bad interrupters), curses rock balls in AB. Water eles too, and bsurge is all out hilarity.

Kurz side has their fair share of srs business teams too btw. Farming goldcapes on my own turf is just sexy

I played for an hour or two a few days ago and you're right, it's not nearly as bad as it was. Had some fun games on Grenz with decent teams on both sides. Could whine about seeping sins but it's not as bad as palm strike was and they're not as common as AoD and shadow prison gankers were back in the day.

But then...it moved to Saltspray and all the retards came out of the woodwork.

I mostly play luxon side. The AB guilds that dominate on the luxon side are mostly UCW, Exit and Cnex (As far as I know). The reason i play Luxon is the decent experience level of an average luxon pug and the short waiting time.

I played a few times on the kurzick side and noticed a couple of things.
1: The mentality there is to invite everyone they see, to have at least a team is the philosophy i think.
Notice how few light blue names there are and many 2-3 man teams.
2: Because of this most of the teams are a sort of random way resulting in lack of power because everyone run there own build instead of orginized team builds like it is now run on luxon side.

Combine this with the waiting time the result is like: luxon win ratio in 30 min is around 2-1 (they played 3 rounds), while the kurzicks have played around 1-1 (also in 30 min).

Once the map is in saltspray beach/etheran keys/deep deep luxon territory. The luxon beginners will show up and the masses are balanced for one day and when the tie turns again, the kurzicks get driven back.

What i don't get is if the kurzicks have so much waiting time (Average 5-10 min). Why dont they spend a bit more time into the team builds and have everything orginized.

I assume you enter a queue to get a match as soon as you hit "enter battle", meaning it pays to form a team and hit that button ASAP.

Since I actually have no friends left in this game and lack the ability to make new ones I end up pugging. Especially when the map is ancestral(I'm kurz atm) I know the wait times are dreadful and my allies will suck anyway so it's only rational for me to tab-invite and go as fast as possible.

Increase points gain for AB wins

I mean 10k luxon for 10-15min MQSC or 2.5k for an AB. hmm difficult choice.

"we don't AB for faction" - good for you.

1 more thing
ppl have gotten a lot better in AB than 2-3 years ago. a lot more organised teams.
took 3 years for ppl to understand that capping is more important than killing and that speed boosts are win.

Please don't do this. We don't AB for faction. Every other instance with silly rewards has turned into a degenerate cesspool of buttonmash, gimmicks and boring metas.

True dat.

And it will take a couple more obviously before "ppl" understand that capping and killing are linked, meaning one is as important as the other. (Maybe you just phrased yourself poorly)

Even more important than speed boosts is "getting to the right place at the right time". Even if you run circles at 50% speed a team getting to the right places with no speed boost at all will still outplay you. A speed boost will help either way, though.

I don't play ab much (only r9 lux after how many years), but why the hell do we always have to play on anc? It's so boring. AB would be so much more fun if ANet somehow improved the map rotation (I understand it's to do with whichever side keeps winning, but even so... it's boring).

I'm pretty sure you'd get bored much faster playing on Kaanai constantly getting scores of 500-35.

PS. Ancestral is the coolest map.
