Default Pvping as monk [Help]

Hello , Im new here on the forums and relative new to PvP so i came here with some questions cuz i think this is the most active forum of GW.

I just started a Monk for Pvping and i hope someone could help. Right now im just playing RA.. i found a build on PvX that works fine for me.. but i want to know you opinion about it:

Code:
OwEU04nA1KS8FaENg3E+DQgTfpFA
The PvX Build suggest this as equipment:

Quote:
A 40/40 Heal Set.
A high energy set (a wand and focus with two 15/-1 mods).
A Furious Spear of Enchanting (20%) with "Brawn over Brains" (-5 energy) inscription for hiding energy and for casting Vigorous Spirit.
A 40/20/20% Protection Staff (in the advent of Guardian)
Disciple's Insignias, with a Rune of Superior Vigor and 2 Runes of Vitae.
A Spear + Shield set with +5 energy and +5 Armor on the spear, along with a 10% chance to gain double adrenaline. You should have a variety of max Q7/Q8 Tactics shields, with all of the various +10 vs. damage (fire, lightning, piercing, slashing, etc) mods.
But i dont understand some things...

¿A 40/40 Heal Set means a 1 hand staff and 1 off hand with 20% of HCT and 20% skill recharge?
¿Wich is the perfect mod of Brawn over Brains mod 15%-5 or 10%-5?
¿What its suposed to mean this A 40/20/20% Protection Staff? lol

Related to combat...
¿Should a monk keep moving all time, stay on one place or what?
Wich is the amount of health recommended for pvping as a monk..

And i would appreciate if someone could explain me the "Swaping Weapons" thing, cuz i just dont get it.... I understand swaping the 40/40 set instead of the Spear of Enchanting to cast Vigorous Spirit and Spotless Mind... but what about the shield sets and all that stuff?

Maybe my questions are fool but well, its a start.
Thanks for your time.

Edit:
Just noticed theres a Monk PvP thread sorry for posting this here. I would appreciate if someone could move it.

a 40/40 heal set means a perfect 20% Halves Cast time and 20% Halves Skill Recharge of healing prayers wand and offhand.

A perfect mod is 15% damage, -5 energy.

And a 40/20/20% staff means a 40% Half Cast Time "x" attribute, with 20% Halves Skill Recharge of all spells, and 20% Enchanting staff wrap.

Monks should never stay in one place, unless you're auto attacking to build adrenaline.

If using Disciples, about 540 is the amount of health you should have, unless you are on your shield set (+5energy spear/sword/axe with +5armor/+7 armor to physical or Elemental and +30hp shield with +10 armor v "x" damage type.)

With Survivor's, about 610 on shield set.

You should always stay on shield set, unless you need energy or are being focused on by an interrupt ranger or mesmer. Then you would switch 40/40 in order to get a 36% chance of halving cast time, or 4% chance of quartering the cast time. Same thing for recharge. It boosts the chance of either casting faster or recharging. Or if you feel confident, you can switch to your 40/40 to cast WoH, Patient Spirit, Spotless, etc.

If there any more questions, or you need to me to explain concepts, send me a PM.

Not true for HCT.

This is a (rather) recent thread on the same subject, where you can find a lot of useful suggestions.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/r...t10446333.html

The "Gladiator Arena" section of this forum is dedicated to PvP discussion, while the "Campfire" section (this one where we are now) is dedicated to PvE suggestion, so it's better for you if you browse the Gladiator's one to find hints on PvP related subjects.

Welcome to the forum and have fun

You need a moderator to move a thread. Kicking it over now...

I felt this was a little unclear.

40/40 Sets still give you chance for half recharge and half cast time.

The double proc for recharge was taken out ages ago, and the more recent quote given shows that double proc for cast time has also been "removed".

On a side note, try to never get KD'd outside of shield set.

Ok so if the double proc has been removed what should i do? Pick another weapon set? or just stay with the same...

And i have two more questions:
1.-Why the suggested equipment of the build includes a Protection Staff if my main attribute is Healing Prayers?
2.-And how i can swap that many shields? i just open the bag and swap it manually or theres a way to hotkey them?

Most monk bars have Guardian, which benefits dramatically from an enchanting prot staff. However, even for arenas, since any healing enchants you're prone to use (Vigorous Spirit, Spotless Mind) are 1/4s activation anyway, not getting a cast time benefit from your staff barely affects it - the 20% skill recharge and 20% enchantment length still affect it.

At the beginning of each match, just look over the other team and put on whatever shield looks most appropriate. Honestly though, it doesn't matter that much in RA.

Also, just because the fast cast effect can't proc twice doesn't mean you shouldn't take it - it still increases the overall proc rate.

High energy sets are a last resort. If you're running out of energy on your normal set, it's kind of nice to have 30 extra energy to tap into. Remember to swap back immediately to your normal set after casting a spell or two with your +15/15 wand/focus set, though. It help optimize your energy regeneration [+4 pips of energy regeneration as opposed to just sitting on your +15/15 set and only receiving +2 pips of energy regeneration] if you do that.

Shield/Spear set is to give you some extra armor [albeit only half *+8 armor* the armor *if you're not meeting the requirements of that shield in order to get the full armor bonus from it*]. The spear can be modded to give you a constant +5 energy and also offers +30 health or +20% longer enchantments modifiers. Those bonuses are desireable for casters. More health means more chances of surviving spikes, catching heals, and not dying. r7/8 shields are amazing because they can let you invest more skill points into Divine Favor while retaining the same +16 armor bonus, thus increasing your healing output *decimally* and staying "tanked up!".

Disciple's Insignias are good for builds that use skills like "Draw Conditions" which are oriented towards retaining conditions on you. It can be risky if you don't have any self-removals for 4v4 formats, but in 8v8 you can possibly rely on other teammates to remove conditions for you. The only thing is if they remove all conditions from you, you don't receive the added bonus from your insignias. It's all up to you on that one, really. Rely on your experiences in PvP to counter the most current meta; it's the best way to go, tbh.

Your spear is badly modded. Whatever head you like (furious if you have bonetti's), -5e +15%damage, +5AL is a far more effective option.

Just learn to watch the field and think about what your skills are for. That's really all there is to it. I can (and have) written pages on how to play monk better, but if you can't watch the field, most of it is meaningless, and if you think about what your skills are for, you will figure most of it out on your own.

take axe and shield set, 40/40 set and +15 and +30 energy sets and you'll be fine...
bring bunch of survivor insignias because health>armor any time and learn to manage energy not brainless random spamming skills on your skill bar
and ofc the most important DO NOT RED BAR (if you don't know what that means you're not ready to play monk)

Tinkered with that.

Sorry, but high armor monks are one of the most broken things atm. +hp is pointless in comparison.

I can see the argument for HA, with so many BB wars and the wota/esurge builds dealing a lot of armor ignoring damage but outside of that armor is way better.
