Default Help with relevant classes today plz!

Hi guys,

Long story short, I was a huge GW fan back when it first came out and I'd been entertaining the thought of getting immersed in it once again and finally put in the CD once again. PvE never really retained my interest for too long so I stuck to mostly PvPs and want to do the same. The problem is, it seems like the game has changed soooo mcuh in terms of everything ... classes, skills, setups etc so I want to ask a few questions if you'll be kind enough to provide some answers.

Quick background, by "when it first came out", I mean before the four classes were even added and when HoH, Arenas, GvG were the only things around. If my memory serves me right, this was back when spike builds around lightning eles, or DPS builds around axe warriors, KD builds around hammer dudes were prevalent, and oh ya.. necros spamming the putrid explosion button like there was no tomorrow.

In any case, I want some advice on how to get reacquainted with the PvP aspect of this game, all the changes and additions seem so daunting (if you think I should just give up and wait for GW2, say so haha). Have the new classes become the prevalent ones these days and I should focus on these? Which of them are pvp-relevant? or should I try to begin where I left off and redefine my approach with the classic classes.

Sorry for the lengthy post... would really appreciate it if someone helped me out though.

Warriors and Monks are still ubiquitous, and the other four original classes are still common midline templates. The four new classes see only limited niche use.

One obstacle is that there's so many useful skills in the three follow-up chapters that you'll be severely limited in capability without them. Shockaxe with Executioner's Strike is basically the only template that's gone unchanged since Prophecies; you might want to give that a try.

@ lemming. Thanks. So I should try to complete all the campaigns in the three add-ons in order to at least acquire the new skills right?

I'm just curious, but what is the community like these days? Are the ppl still left playing the veterans and hardcore guys mostly and the learning curve really steep? I can't imagine there's still a prominent inflow of newcomers at this point although I'd love to be wrong about that

For PvP purposes, you don't need to. Nonelite skills are unlockable for 1000 Balthazar Faction, elites for 3000. Especially with the addition of PvP Zaishen quests (daily repeatable quests that provide a large sum of faction), it's not hard to unlock essential skills quickly.

The community is unfortunately pretty dead. Heroes' Ascent (Tombs) is empty after Europeans go to sleep, Team Arenas is gone, and there are few American guilds who still GvG on the ladder.

With that being said, the lack of population also makes it easier to break in, although it's probably not worthwhile to start trying to play seriously now.

That's sad (. I have such fond memories of the game too. Maybe I should just wait a few months for GW2 to preserve them that way bah.

I wouldn't recommend warriors, they aren't what they promise. You see them a lot because they are easy to play with, but also very boring and is easily overpowered by any other class.
