Depends on the metagame at the moment. There have been phases where all the other classes have been utilized to a great degree. Of all the classes, the 6 core classes have seen the most consistent use, with monks almost always being utilized. (Except for very rare occasions, like modified IWAY, where minimal healing/prot was placed on */Mo and each player used some method of self-heal.) Creative build-makers have been able to utilize every profession in an effective manner. Sometimes, those out-of-the-box thinkers have created some doozies!

your mindset is wrong. dont worry about which profession is most versitile, just play frontline midline or backline. (meele, caster damages, healers)

if your chosing a role to play because your new to pvp, i would suggest some easy midline class. probably an ele or a necro in HA/gvg.

I am not new to pvp, i am just wanting people's opinions on which prof they think is most versitile, to see what people think and to help aid my decision in maining a toon. I have not PvP'd in quite some time now, but i do want to get back into it.

[for HA] midline is probably the way to go, develop your field watching skills to play a good support rit (dont spam weapons when people dont need it) playing monk and war is more developed field watching but just get accustomed to the meta and know the weaknesses of each build so you can be more effective on your team, you would be very surprised after how long ha has been going pugs cant use these basic common sense things

I am going to completely disagree. Not in specific cases, but in general assessment.

Typically the least skilled players are given "bitch bar" roles, these are bars that derive their strength not from timely use of their skills so much as regular use (push buttons) of their skills. In many cases it is a correct assessment to give this bar to a less skilled player, there are also some people that can't play these bars.

While frequent use of skills as opposed to timely use of skills is definitely an argument for "bitch bars" not catalyzing improved play, there are also people that cannot accept the "frequent" over "timely" use of skills and end up being poor "bitch bar" players. I find myself in that situation. While I can play a good mesmer (of the old prophecies Dom-styled variety), there is no other caster that I am effective at. Despite that I am competent at both warrior and monk.

Don't "make a toon." Find people to play with. Find what they need or what you want to play. Make it as a PvP character. If you need/want to play something else, delete that PvP character and make a new one. Only after you are accustomed to pvp and know what you regularly play should you devote a slot to PvP (whether it be a PvP character or a PvE character you have built up). Also make sure you always keep a free slot to delete and remake PvP characters.

Tying yourself down to one character, or even one role is about the most retarded thing you can do unless you have a playerpool of good, and established friends to play with.

You'll want to find out what you have at least some semblence of talent at, but it still does in no way imply that you are that character.
