Default State of RA Spring 2010

I've been doing some extensive RAing lately but now I'm getting rather bored and I'm starting to take it out on my fellow RAers so it's probably time for a break. However, I figured I'd share some of my observations as a sort of "state of RA spring 2010":

Nothing varies so much in skill level as warrior(from defy pain to StrongStuff)
Everyone likes to run anti-melee
Mo/W has never been so popular
Necro is OP as hell but it's boring to run and people are starting to realise
Empathy
Sins run imba bars but are as one-sided and bad players as ever
Dervishes come straight from kamadan
Only a minority has discovered the power of /resign
The majority will not /resign even if one player leaves before timer
Using bonetti and torment shield does not make you a good monk
Empathy
Euro servers are really unstable
Rangers don't understand the idea of apply poison
Avatar of Noob
Bsurge, Mind Blast, Stoning
Water eles must be playing another format
Empathy
The latest pve rit buff made people bring their rits to RA
Spirits suck in pvp(in pve too but people are..)
Some people have a lot of anger in them
Most people don't say a single word even when addressed
Gold/silver cape is not what it used to be
Syncing still works
Empathy
Blue/Elisa has been trolling in RA for 4-5 years straight and proves that time > skill
What happened to the TA map with icy river?
Hexes need a nerf, but are due for another buff next skill update
Paragons are totally OP and need a nerf
Playing a paragon makes some people rage before timer
Empathy

That's about it.

Oh yeah. I wonder why they didn't add that to the RA map rotation.

Oh god, I usually use my Dervish for RA, I don't think I'm to bad at it, my build doesn't suck to badly. But some of the other Dervishes I see there, oh man, Why must they all go /N and use Life Transfer/Life Siphon?!

I've actually been playing some RA lately. I'm still ~almost~ completely clueless 'cause I've only been playing PvP for a couple months now. In that time, though, I've noticed several of the things mentioned on that list. And I'll admit I've even been guilty of a few items on that list.

I was wondering, though, what was meant by the comment "Water eles must be playing a different format" ??? After having horrible experiences trying a few other classes, I finally found that playing a water ele is fun Most people ignore me long enough for me to help hex/spike the team's target.

Mega Fail on Rift's part.

Hey, positioning in RA must be picking up nowadays, because there are people like me who are stuck in Asia! And i'm half Asian? :S

Haha, is the Blue we're talking about, Blue Perception? Quite the epic rager.

And the moment you notice 2 mesmers or 2 necros, as a monk, you know this will be a hard match. And even if they don't have a healer, more damage will probably kill you.
Idiots who think you must always, ALWAYS attack monks are blind to the builds...

He means they're off playing other types of PvP/PvE and never venture into RA. Mostly because the MB build is quite powerful (Not OP, it's ok right now), with KD and burning, making it more offensive. There's also the lovely Earth build (which was left out of the list!) that does constant KD, weakness, blind and shats all over a monk's anti-KD.Then there are all the Bsurge/RTL air builds that are..... Bluergh.
Water is more defensive with slows, Blurred vision and blind. Shatterstone spike is fun but like every other ele build, easily interrupted. Mind Freeze can be very effective. But water eles are essentially yet another anti-melee build and there's more than enough.

You've also missed out all the epic PvE rangers. The ones who think bow damage is amazing, or stormbows are pro at rupting (THEY'RE LONGBOWS FOR GODS SAKE). And some still use power shot and penetrating shot and ignite arrows. Then the Barrage rangers. And of course, Sway rangers who "don't care" about the Escape nerf..........

syncing is funny, when WM used to do it early in the game from the korean districts everyone would be thrilled to get smacked by them... now people just cry.

however in general i think RA is healthier than it's been for a while, tbh...

ps: dog of japan is much funnier than blue. that kid's a legend

After playing alot of RA I also decided to ignore most QQ-ing. So that's just smart. It's dumb to bite and feed the trolls.

Yeah, man. All those OTHER dervs.

No, there's no alternative to mo/w. I was just stating that they are extremely common these days while the mo/n's and mo/me's are rather rare. Which is probably a good thing.

I meant to say that water eles are about as rare in RA as paragons. I guess the MoI nerf made them disappear. Yeah, water ele is fun and actually does take a fair bit of skill. Unfortunately you can rarely rely on your team using the snares to their advantage by kiting FROM melee or chasing AFTER a snared squishie. Good luck with playing a semi-honorable class.

It's there buddy, you just missed it. Ebon hawk/stoning either on eles or mesmers seem to be very popular. I'm pretty sure bsurge got mentioned too cause it's certainly present in RA!

My necro, that is not blood, wishes to thank everyone for not bringing any hex-removal. And being slow to use it even if they do (thanks for the heal!).

Also paradigm shifts are funny, necro's used to 'suck' in the opinion of the general populous (that's a euphemism for 'plebs' btw).

For reasons of nostalgia I will now link this;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWHt4qyUo1M&

(because it is still quite likely my favourite GW vid of all time)

Also the state of RA? Speaking of paradigm shifts when did RA suddenly become a 'serious' form of PvP?

MoW stance spammers are easy enough to beat. Nowadays most of them dont run guardian. And those that do are terrible about using it. Just dont attack the monk. Hitting the monk just provides him energy most of the time.

The skills that really piss me off in RA is all the anti melee and how easy it is, most notably Empathy. Not only does this skill put similar damage on me if i attack, it keeps me out of frenzy because thats pretty much suicide. It almost does Insidious + Faint in one.

In terms of monking the skill that I hate is backfire... not because its overpowered but because the damage comes before I get healed rather than after, if your below 110ish hp you actually cant remove it without external removal (and dont say prevail, if the mes doesnt rip your enchant then they are probably backfiring your warrior)

EDIT: forgot bsurge... that is very OP when the user doesnt spam it. When they use it every 4 seconds i just lol, and after 6 adren hit d-chop or use my dshot and just laugh till the cows come home. Without it they drop so fast.

not completely true. old school melandru's resilience boon monks stand an equally good chance - until you face stance removal and/or ele overload team, at least. just made 25 today (after quite a while) with such a monk, a rt/p, a heal as one r/p and a pblock mes. luckily, the mes pblocked opposing monks in teams with stance removal before their stance removal kicked in. we did almost lose to spirit poopers thou.

btw, a shame someone deleted my oh-so-true post. RA is ruled by armies of nabs now because international district is no longer a sanctuary for exped players.

I dont RA on a regular basis to start with, its just that whenever i do, all the armies of nabs apparently wait in line to land on my team, even when i have a bit of luck and actually get one or two good players (and ofcourse, the wammo or some other wammoian character never leaves).

in a competent team, they're almost unkillable. in a wammo-loaden team, any sort of healing is a waste to start with anyway.

so you'd frenzy your ass off in insidious then? im certain the necro would be VERY happy about that.

as for prevEiling, there's this lovely cover spell and anti-pressure spell called vigorous spirit, try using it. im surprised you dont hate blackout too btw.

Difference is that you can frenzy your ass off through ip and still end up killing someone other than the necro. If you do the same with empathy you go down in flames.

Empathy is the bigger problem, but the REAL problem is that they usually come in pairs: vor/empathy AND faint/ip. Can't wait to see all the new hexes they're going to buff this next skill update...

20 dmage was too little, but almost 50 is way off limit. 30-40 max would be just right, i guess...with increased recharge.
