Only fun I've ever had in pvp was back in the day me and few mates used to run full ranger teams in TA all with full running builds. Would be especially funny when you came across a team with a mm (before the cap), sit back and let him make a shed load then run upto them and shout "chase me" hehe. One team stuck it out for a good 30 mins but most /ragequit within 5 lol that was about 5 year ago, not bothered much since, rather just stick with pve than put up with all the pvp trash

As for syncing in random arenas. Its meant to be random. If its being abused and not being played properly then its days are numbered

all in all i can confirm the fact that going to 25 without synching is virtually impossible, because:

1) there's just too many baddies and le horribles that drag your team down
2) there's too many ppl who prefer to play their fav profession (and ofcourse, their favourite builds, which is probably the bigger reason they arent contributing to the team) instead of playing what is actually effective (even a para can be effective with the right build, thou it is still not ideal (since 2007/2008) in 4v4)
3) there's too many scrub trash synch guilds (ala le horrible [email protected], quekz and numerous HA/RA guilds with asian tags) that will whoop your team of baddies you tried dragging on
4) there's no district where the share of decent players would be noticeable (like the former id used to be before the district update that was meant to 'fix' synch) - it is either districts with synch horribles, or districts with horribles
5) it is really almost impossible to get a >random< team with players and overall setup decent enough to be able to handle all the synchage; some synch setups (even if ran by le horribles, sadly) are hard to take down even with a synch of your own, if you're using a balanced and not a gimmick setup (best example: my own synch consisting of the TA balanced setup r+w+n+mo vs a synch with dual balthazar and a pod nec - I suppose i do not need to explain why the latter setup is broken and can wipe just about anything)
6) no one that was competitive in TA wants to lose to shit trash RA synch queens like that for reasons mentioned above.

the solution is: stop RAing, go CA. the place is buried in shit and nothing can save it.

Sorry about your bad experience with top level PvPers.

I have a screenshot from 2006 where I got a RA team with Hutto from Te and Eun Jong from EvIL. We won a few times in RA then they invited me to play in TA with them and Kar (from Te) joined us too. In the screenshot Eun Jong is saying he has a date with his girlfriend. This was way back in the good old days, when RA was for fun. Hutto is only level 19 in the screenshot.

Back when my guild was playing in tournaments I can definitely say that the high level community was pretty nice and respectful. We owed a lot of our success and improvement as a guild to the guests from high level guilds who were willing to put up with our bad play, and patiently give us tips on how to improve. Particularly people from Te. I dont mean to say that everyone in the top 20 was a super carebear or anything, because there have always been dicks in there too. But generally, the community had good people in it.

I have no idea what it's like now though.

Don't exaggerate. Paragon can make contributions too, even if it is a subpar class.

I should probably specify that I don't use paras in RA anymore. I use dev hammer whenever I RA. I merely defending para players because I realize that this is a game, and that people can be play the profession that they enjoy best.

After countless hours of gw and ra I know for a fact that people who call you noob are in 99% of cases worse than you. Not just worse, they are much much worse than you. This applies regardless of much experience or how good you are btw so the next time someone decides to show his own incompetence by saying this word you should take it as confirmation that you are better than others.

The word is just so 2006 btw.

@urania

Sorry to hear you haven't had 25 with a random team, I am serious when I say yes it's possible and even possible without a healer, I generally take a screenie when I make 25, and have always when we've done it with no monk/healer.

Here's a picture, and you can see it's recent after the derv update. Just noticed there's two people with no secondary also, which is nice icing on the cake. I suppose you'll have to take my word that neither rit is resto, but you can see on the picture no resto spirits, and I remember I kept the two rit builds to use myself another time. From the other 25-with-no-healer pictures I'm looking at in my folder, it seems overwhelming firepower and people who know what they're doing is the key, even that is not always essential.

This picture tells a thousand words why RA can be so fun when done correctly.

Update No. 2:- Been enjoying my RA time ever since I went hardcore-carebear, even had a "gl with your para" from a sin from RaT guild, which I thanked him for, even though that guild syncs. Got 14 wins so far with para, I'm going to keep on trying

A picture of 25 wins without a Monk doesn't mean it's beneficial to play without one. It's been pointed out a million times before: you can win matches in RA without Monks, with shit bars, heck someone even posted a screenshot of getting 25 cons with an empty skill bar, only ressurection signet.

What you need to ask yourself is: " Is casual gaming better than competitive gaming?". Because that's the issue at hand here. When you want to run a shitty bar which is fun for you personally, you're crippling your 3 other teammates. Not everyone shares the same vision as you, and for them, you're just a "noob" ruining their fun.

You could ask yourself the question: "Is it worth being selfish at the cost of other people's entertainment?" and there's no definite anwser. But calling people out who call you out because you run a terrible bar (from a competitive perspective) is not the right thing to do.

The "golden" middle line would be for the people who want to play casually (their own "shitty" bars) to find an effective (read: meta) bar which is closest to what you want to play. If you want to play a water ele with Mist Form, Ice Spear and other of the lesser Water Attribute skills, why not run a Mirror of Ice/Shatter Stone ele instead? It plays almost identically, is alot more effective and will set your teammates at ease.

In a format where the competitive players don't get weeded out from the casual ones, there's just no point in calling eachother names, as both have different objectives. Both sides need to learn the format is flawed (Anet should've never removed TA, and not given Glad Points to RA) and learn to live with eachother, because the casual <-> competitive feud in RA is one of the oldest one in GW. I can actually remember "QQ RA Monk" threads dating from 2006/2007.

I once made 80 + with RA team with no monk. It was 1 rit with warmongers weapon. He had life + spirit light (only heal skills). an A/D and a E/A. warmongers on war and I shut down hexes. A/D + E/A called between themselves with their teleport. Drop 1, then just dchop + shock sigs. It was fun. I almost made the mistake of raging when i saw the team setup initially.

This is so, so true. Oh anet... why can't you bring back TA and make it so that only TA gives glad points?

Oh, don't misunderstand me - I make 25 every now and then when i actually set my mind into it and synch with a TA mate - or when (and that's extremely rare) i actually get a team set-up that is decent enough to score 25 (with a bit of luck).

but going for 25 with randoms that make me wanna pull out my hair is something i try to avoid most of the time. there were times when i had to drag lollerskates teammates (i.e. warriors with close to full duration doliaks signet that they'd use whenever something would hit them) because they joined later on when one of our team members left on 10 or more wins, but it's a huge gamble.

because you get lucky once a week/month doesn't mean you should give it a go with every single crap landing on your team.
gamble is not my thing, and relying on luck is like hitting your head against a brick wall. it gets you (or me, at least) no where, because Murphy's law always gets me first. can you possibly understand that?

I barely ever RA still, but if i do i most definitely wont waste time on teams that will only end up wiping to a synch or a random perfect setup, or won't be able to kill 2 monk teams that wont resign.

last but not least, just when you think you might actually get 25 with the pug you decided to stay in, it often turns out one of your mates was ahead, and you get kicked back to ra district right before 25. guild wars.

Gold Trim is very misleading these days because the majority of those players are leechers. I have also been amazed by the amount of high ranked PvPers that are just plain awful. You can't judge a player by their titles or trim these days because it is so easy for those things to fall into peoples hands that truly did not earn it. I also am not bothered by syncing because I feel removing TA just made syncing a bigger problem in RA. If anything blame Anet for the syncing.

You guys are aware that TA had rank discrimination? That was one of the problems with TA. You couldn't get into a group unless you had a specific rank. If you somehow got into a group, most of the people in the group will not know what their doing and will get killed in under 20 seconds. The source of the problem with the pvp community are titles. You can blame the developers for implementing those lame titles. Titles have caused people to sync in RA in an attempt to farm gladiator points. Titles have caused people tun run lame gimmick builds in HA that tend to rely on 3,2,1 skills. The bottom line is that the pvp community in this game is dead and definitely not friendly or helpful toward new players compared in the early days. PvP in guild wars is so broken that it can't be fixed anymore. it's not even worth trying.

Entice more people to try gvg, its ladderbased so the low ranks will still get some wins. Make a fix that actually stops syncing without creating a bunch of other sideeffects. If this is impossible make the rewards for syncing as low as possible ie. no points for consecutive wins or remove the points altogether and reinstate ta for intentional "syncing". Go big on costume brawl, make it an all year arena. Have a random cb and tournaments for guilds. Give ab a try. Just off the top of my head.

As shitty as RA can be, it is still a competitive PvP game mode. When you play a competitive game, you should expect the players there to want to win and do whatever it takes to do just that. When you are trying to win and you're forced to play with baddies that bring random skills that don't even remotely work together or just clearly inferior setup just because they feel like it, it is nothing short of infuriating.

Fun is subjective yes, but in PvP, winning is the fun. If you are just there to goof around or to try random builds (i.e. You're just playing for "fun"), then you are no better than a griefer to the players who are actually trying win.

I am here to tell you these players were leechers.

Most gold trim winning players aren't a**holes like the guys you mentioned.

Or you are just really bad. Anyway, just because you're bad doesn't mean you're not able to tell the difference between someone who is bad and someone who is good, it just means you can say they're as well.
