Oh believe me, I know it. Rank died the day NF was released, possibly even sooner. It's just that many players are still in denial. Many people still try to point to their rank as if it grants their opinion more credibility no matter how wrong they are.

And that pretty much describes %99.9 of all players that call any non meta build bad.

The sad truth is a lot of players are very very bad at understanding a builds functionality and intended strategy by looking at it. And the ratio of players who are good at being able to discern such a thing does not change when going from the high ranked PvP community and casual PvE community. It is a skill separate from being good at the game, a talent that is very underrated and one that some people who are otherwise great players gameplay wise are colossally terribad at.

I once saw someone ( a female guildy ) get kicked from an HA team because the R12 leader of the group thought she was using the wrong build. She was using the build he pinged her to use that the team leader got off wiki. The difference? She had rearranged the skills on her bar. In other words: Simply by rearranging the skill numbers on her bar, this high-ranked supposedly-good player was unable to comprehend that it was the EXACT SAME FRIGGIN BUILD. And the icing on the cake? I have seen this happen multiple times.
if you have seen this happen multiple times then obviously your guild is bad or you join pugs which is no surprise.

also highly doubt any rank 12 player is unable to comprehend the same bar rearranged, sounds made up or your with a bunch of frenchies.

but yeah rank 12 hasnt meant anything since 07

You're probably going to wanna use the full guild name. Anything prior to 2008 is pretty unknown to the current community.

I observed an awesome warrior build being used by WHAT that utilized scorpion wire and shadow of haste. I was really impressed by it and how the person playing it made it look good. I think that was what i was getting at when i started this thread; unusual, fun, and effective builds that are overlooked by people because 1,2,3 builds are easy.

This is, frankly, exactly what I was thinking as I finished reading the OP.

Smile my favorite non-meta build

[First post on guru ]
My favorite non-meta build is one I made yesterday.
Mesmer/Assassin
Fast Casting 10+1 Illusion 11+1+1 Deadly Arts 6 Inspiration 8+1
*Enduring Toxin
*Recurring Insecurity
*Illusion of Pain
*Accumulated Pain
*Ethereal Burden
*Ether Feast
*Energy Tap
*Illusion of Haste
I mainly use it in FA luxon to make things fall over with uber degens and damages and deep wound, just 'cause.
EDIT: oh, and for making amber runners blow up.

FYI: Degen maxes out at ten. IoP makes half your skills redundant. If you're so concerned about canceling regen, bring PI and/or leech sig to rupt troll/breeze/etc. Of course, then you'd be running what's basically a modified IoP split bar from GvG. Which is a meta build, which...heaven forbid.

^ What he said, although GvG IoP split bars aren't meta in FA. I think you can toss out Recurring Insanity, Enduring Toxin and Energy Tap for something like Drain Enchantment, Power Drain and an elite of choice (such as Crip Anguish). Hardly looks like an effective bar in FA though, you've got no AoE and kill slowly.

You can still make non-meta but effective bars though, viz:

Shell Shock / Invoke Lightning / Chain Lightning / Winter's Embrace / Aura of Resto / Air Attunement / Windborne Speed / Res - does a fair bit of pressure while still having a res + a snare, no KD though and in a prolonged fight, it can run out of energy.

Life Transfer / Wastrel's Demise / Wastrel's Worry / Kitah's Burden / Shatter Enchantment / Chaos Storm / Illusion of Haste / Cry of Frustration - JQ build, can cap shrines, has snares, can remove Restful Breeze from Monks trying to heal turtles, etc.

Thing about either build though is that they're hardly anything special. The first simply adds a snare and speedboost onto what is otherwise a standard Invoke bar and plays it as a split character. Or, another way of looking at it is that it simply switches out Mind Shock on the semi-meta Mind Shock split build for Invoke Lightning while trading Healing Breeze for Winter's. The second build is another play on the very common WW / WD spammers in JQ, just using a different elite and making specific choices of skills etc (e.g. Shatter Enchantment over Mistrust, which is more a playstyle choice than power choice). In other words, it's arguable that both builds, despite being quite unique, are more variations of meta builds than individual builds themselves.

If you can make an unusual but effective build then it's (almost) only a matter of time before it becomes meta.

Totally forgot degen maxed out at 10. but, now i just came up with a new build, cant wait to try it later friday.
Me/Assassin
Domination 11+1+1, Fast Casting 11+1, Inspiration 8+1
*Symbols of Inspiration
*Web of Disruption
*Power Spike
*Empathy
*Spiritual Pain / Chaos Storm
*Energy Tap
*Shatter/Drain enchantment
*Dash
I used something like this with WoC on saturday, worked pretty well, considering i could steal many elites with different functionalities while still carrying hefty caster and melee hate. I managed to grab Shield of Regeneration, and was protting the monk who was getting pounded on. Symbols of Inspiration is really underestimated, i wonder how it can be effective in some arena such as FA.

That's one of the things I hate about mesmers, there aren't many "new" builds or particularly "unique" builds. Everything I've tried has either been done before or not that effective but after that dervish patch I was able to come up with something totally new. A Warvish build that actually works... when you have energy that is.

W/D
Weapon: Zealous Scythe
*Rending Aura
*Grenth's Fingers or Eremite's Zeal
*Tiger stance
*shove
*Twin Moon Sweep
*Irresitible sweep
*body blow
*res signet or enraging charge or Rush or Eremite's Zeal or berserker stance.

PROS
-Almost unblockable
-High damage very fast.

Cons
-Requires Energy
-Requires enchantments

Pretty sure that wouldn't do very well against semi competent players.

RaO axes shit out a TON of DW. 3 of them can easily maintain DW on 5-6 people. Combine that with an LC nec + blood nec and you could probably do some pretty nice work in tombs.

It's actually very simple. Either you adapt, and play the builds the good people are playing.
Or you make your own builds, and be inferior.

People thinking there's still undiscovered good builds out there, are plain stupid.

I'm actually quite curious to see how that build turns out. Although I've not had the chance to see it in action yet, it sounds like it works.

As you know shinde, I'm a big fan of that bar =P Not sure how much use it would actually see but it's really powerful on maps like jade/druids since it can basically sit in base all game, act as a defensive split char or even play the role of a 2nd flagger.

I totally agree about nothing new or unique. So I just come up with gimmicks, I only do casual/"seriousness" PVP though so it works. Pick 2/3 attributes and FORCE myself to combine them and find combos. It works, but you need to first get out of the meta mindset where efficiency is the most important thing about a build. That's why many builds are never discovered, people pass over so many skills because they are not seen or they are not as efficient as ______. So I Now I'm not saying to just combine any **** skills, but it is OK to use non op things lol.
