I'm not exactly a VoR fanboy but this is currently the jack of all trades build for RA, even more so than in the past. Caster shutdown (MB, SF, etc.), check. Complete hosing of physical damage, especially escape rangers, check. Ez mode monk stomping, check. You can also play defense with this build CoF camping poison and shutting down other VoR's. The key is to not suck like most generic VoR mesmer in RA do, rushing in to hit monks with backfire and VoR while not paying attention to anything else -.-

I've been playing old E-surge again and I am remembering why I've always loved that template so much.

In light of the R/A and E/Me abuse, I've changed to e- surge as well.

1-6 to shutdown initially, then cycle 1, 4,5,6 after. E-surge for AoE. AoS makes auto-attacking in the single digits, as well as it stops pretty much every meele spike so you don't die so fast. Ele's still hurt though

It was funny, I used a choking gas ranger yesterday to limited success. I used

Hunter's Shot
Point Blank Shot
D-shot
Savage Shot
Lightning Reflexes
Choking Gas
Practiced Stance
Res Sig

I used Point Blank so it would force me to get close which helped me I think. After getting bashed in the face for about 3 rounds, I finally got an ok streak. I hadn't seen it in a while and I think people were unprepared for it. Definitely needs a better ias

flurry (or frenzy) were the usual IAS back during choking's heyday. Unfortunately since so many monk spells are 3/4 or 1/4 second now, compared to back then there were many full 1 second casts, it has lost a lot of its killing power.

Yeah, I noticed that flurry would be a reasonable choice. But yeah, with all the mesmers and quick monk casts, the most satisfaction came off of eles and necros not surprisingly and the occasional caster sin. Maybe I'll try it again. I wasn't up to snuff back then to ever try it competitively, but it provided lulz.

E1: Shield/Spear set of fortitude
E2: Zealous Dag Fortitude
E3: Vamp Dag Fortitude

Wait till someone uses a skill with AC and E3 swap to->123456 during their AC delay ( best way to guarantee WD success IMO )

Pressure with E2->456 for decent DPS while 123 recharge.

Switch to E1 and run away with 7 on you when you are pressured or get shut down with hexes/blind, then E3->WD spike back in when people give up chasing you.

Not the best WD spike out there, but by including the Jag-Fox-Blossom combo you aren't totally useless for 20 seconds while WD recharges.

cast assassin's remedy. equip vamp. select target. non-monk squishy is best. press 1-6. this combo laughs at blind, disregard it and keep going. also removes other conditions you might get while spiking.

it is much much stronger than the version with horns in the middle and twisting at the end. less prone to failure and less energy-intensive than the version with MoI. (you can pre-cast AR and wait for energy a bit...always have at least 15e before spiking...or maybe 10e but you go 132456 and hope for crits). more is better though.

you can do another GPS-BoS while AR WC TS FLS and TF recharge, still using the previous AR. if WC fails (though you really shouldnt) you can do GPS-TF for a mini-spike.

one drawback is BoS can be kited, but if you surprise them they could die before they start clicking away. or often, they frantically cast something but die before it finishes. (my BoS can do up to (98+3)*2)

stay out of hexers' aggro bubble in between spikes. maintain a low profile so they dont notice you. and then kill them . and then spawn-kill them .

if there are no hexers or you have a trustworthy monk, feel free to autoattack. a sexy trick is to autoattack monks (so he guardians and is worried for himself) while tabbing through his allies for an easy target and then suddenly spike it. OH HAI, OOPS LOL.

Lol the first screenshot of you upside down is epic.

I think being able to kite Blades of Steel is too big a drawback. Sometimes people are bad and tank it, but any good player is going to run for it at first chance. Me, the only time I'd attempt to cast something instead of run at once is if I have some sort of Blind, or if I think I can get off Insidious before I die - vs. Blades of Steel obviously Insidious isn't going to heal enough.

You might want to drop Assassin's Remedy for Dash or something to catch your foes, staying out of the Blindbot's casting range and maintaining a low profile the same way you deal with hexers. Maybe. Although of course if you do this and run into me in RA, you'll regret it

PS: My Dagger crits hit over 100!

you have a point but good kiters are rare. even if they do kite in time, if they curve even just a little, or bump into anyone, i will hit them. also, i need AR for GPS.

p.s. over 100? howudoit?

Has shadowstep, KD, Blades of Steel and speedboost (and the invaluable ability to finish off spikes even while blind with a second RTL ) while missing IAS and a Deep Wound. I remember the Conjure adds enough damage to bump Blades of Steel crit damage > 100, though I don't recall precisely how much.

The build isn't very good, but I use it sometimes just for kicks.

EDIT: Just tried it, I hit 107 x2 on a Necro.

^haha yes Jeydra, this has been confirmed.

edit: i can crit for 112 with the same WC build if i replace assassin's remedy with conjure flame. i lose tiger stance (but can put dash to chase targets) though. cheers

Optional healing makes this build really stable, and when you get Shadowy Burden on a good target and crit the first hit.. It's over. I've killed people with 3/4 hp with just WS and Malicious.

BoS on the WotA FTW build does double 96's pretty easily, without any double damage or lame tiger stance. Double 96's is only seen vs. 60AL but because of the armor ignoring bonus you'll still hit like 70 against even a defy pain war, additionally it has half the recharge of twisting fangs which is a pretty big deal.

It's a pretty OP build really, I mean I 1v1ed this wastrel's sin in FA right... he used up his whole spike, leaving me bleeding at 30hp, after which I simply clean spiked him completely in 5 seconds before bleeding to death and ending up as a small pile of trash talking dead sins lawlz...

Got 10 wins in RA too, it's vulnerable to shutdown but spikes incredibly fast. Like, killing people thru faint right in front of their monk.
Nobody expects a deep wounding 190dmg attack.

Found a new build to infuriate monks as a mesmer

The Frontliner mesmer- Me/a

Wastrel's collapse
Wastrel's demise
Iron Palm
Entangling Asp
Blackout
Diversion
Eitherfest
Res sig

Attribute points really don't matter as long as you have at least 10 in FC and enough points in Dom to make blackout hurt

Spam 1-7 on a target and watch them curse at you in all chat. It works great on monks since most don't expect a mesmer to kdchain, but you're going to have to time their balanced stance after the first combo. I don't use WW because it usually makes monks use Balanced stance to counter.

P.S. don't run into the middle of an enemy team. And when you're done with the chain, run away since they will mostly focus on you.
