I will second that.

It would excellent if someone could put together the best possible Hero builds utilizing ONLY basic skills.

Many of us, less fortunate, do not have all these fancy elite skills hat people flaunt. (how do you get elite skills for other than your own profession anyway ?)

Either create another character and capture the elites or PvP and trade in points to the Priest of Balthazar for elites (3000 Balth points per Elite, I think).

I believe by a stock build you mean basic. To get the elite skills change your secondary and cap them! Guild wiki has an excelent guide to for elite skills that tells you exactly where and who to cap. But I have to admit that the build forum is a bit daunting and can be very confusing expecially to a new player. It would be useful if there was a basic build guide for beginners and intermediate players. Many of the builds out there are for specific farming runs and can make the beginning player crazy. Also Guild wiki gives tips on the missions and what skills may be needed in order to beat the mission.

Besides using balthazar faction or creating a new pve character and capping the elites for that character's primary profession, don't forget that you can cap the elites of your current character's secondary profession. You can also change your character's secondary profession (after you ascend in prophecies, in senji's corner in factions, and in the sunspear sanctuary in NF) and cap the elites for the new secondary. So your current character theoretically could cap every elite in the game.

I'm going to be a pain here and ask "Why not you do some AB or something to get the faction to unlock your heroes some skills?"

Also try the hero skill trainers. They won't have everything you'll need, but they do have some decent skills.

As for elites-just change your secondary and cap them that way.

If it's a case of needed a hero bar using only skills from a certain profession, PvX Wiki has some builds that you can use.

By "the ones I've downloaded", I assume you're talking about templates you've found on build sites?

All of those builds are for maxed (lvl 20) characters, btw. There are no "basic" or stock builds, really, for heroes on the Net. Build sites (as far as I know) only post lvl20 builds. It is rare to see a build w/no elites - though I did see one posted for assassins, which I found when I first made a sin toon and wanted to know what skills I should buy or capture.

There are Hero skill trainers in Elona to start adding skills for both yourself and your heroes. But, as for making builds like you've found on, say PvX wiki, you're going to have to just do the best you can with what you've got. When you buy a skill, it becomes available to your heroes as well. Elites you have to capture. But, once you've captured a skill, it is available to all your heroes that share that same profession, across the account. (I have 8 toons, and when i capture a new skill for a Hero with one, all my heroes for all 8 characters have access to that skill.)

I envy you, in a way. I kind of miss having to hammer together a build from almost nothing for my Heroes. Now, when I start a new character, all my heroes have skills that are so elite, they far outpower my toon! (I've even been tempted to delete my whole account and start over. But, I don't want to have to buy a new key to play, so I go ahead and give my heroes their advanced builds while my character has to start from scratch.)

Have fun!!

Where on Prophecies, after I ascend, can I change my secondary. I have completed Prophecies and do not know where to change my secondary at.

If you click on the ship on the Map near Lions Arch, and then travel to Great Temple of Balthazar, there is a profession changer there, you have to pay a small amount of gold (500).

Alternative (proper) way of doing it is to do the relevant quests in the crystal desert. Talk to Vanyi in Droknars Forge and get the quest (cant rem name). Basically there is a quest for each secondary you can have which unlocks the secondary and the skills associated with it. Check seekers passage, heroes audience etc, all the crystal desert outposts basically.

And just in case you didnnt know, you can get 30 extra attribute points (max total is 200 @ lvl 20), there are two 15 point quests for those, one in the desert and one in the shiverpeaks, make sure and get those too as soon as you can.
