Default Making serious money with the barrage forest farmer

I came upon the barrage forest farmer on PvX and I wanted to try it out, but I'm not sure- is it worth the money for skills and equipment? I spent like 20k on the renewal smites build and it failed miserably. I don't want to make a similar mistake, as I can't really afford to make any more money mistakes (I'm working on my Hall of Monuments.) Additionally, I'm not familiar with the forest. Any recommendations/warnings?

A friend of mine used to use his R/Me to farm FoW forest, and it takes a little while to get used to doing (have to know all the pop-up monsters, and the patrols), but it definitely works. The thing about that build is your elite skill and a few other skills are very flexible so you can use whatever's to your liking, i believe he used prepared shot as the elite.

I gave it a whirl but at the time shards were only about 1.1k so i wasn't making much profit, might give it a go sometime soon again, though.

Also it shouldn't require much money being put into it, when i did it i just used my ranger's general PvE gear and it worked fine. But yeah, the build definitely works.

PvX is so awesome. From the article:

Quote:
Run to the forest using Storm Chaser and Natural Stride, using Chest Run people for meat shields. Tell the runners before going into a mob that you want to activate troll unguent. If you die, do not worry, chest run people are expected to bring resurrection skills.

I don't really like it, but that build looks like it will work, and it's pretty cheap as far as armor and equipment goes. You will still have to learn the patrols and pop-ups, so be prepared to learn by trial and error if you are not already familiar with FoW.

If you have trouble slipping by the skeletons guarding the bridge to the Wailing Lord, you can turn around and come in the back entrance. It's faster to kill or run past them, of course.

I seriously recommend using a degen build such as either of the the Burning Arrow/Apply Poison or Poison Arrow/Kindle Arrows build... also, R/E is a tad safer than R/Me, in my opinion (i farmed more than half of the shards for my first FoW set there)...

This is my favourite build (of the ones I tested):

Bring Natural Stride in the optional slot...

I used to farm the forest a lot with my R/Me and made... at best a decent amount of cash. Shard drop rates are ok but not great and the run (actually running to the forest) was always a little troublesome.

Dunno what shard prices are like lately but it's always been more effective profitwise for me to farm ectos. However, it's nice sometimes to be able to farm using a ranger with actual bow skills.

Long story short, give it a try and see how you like it. Profit != fun, and I always had fun farming the forest. Kinda steep learning curve though.

*edit*
That R/E build looks like the business, though I'd still probably go with kindle and Poison Arrow rather than apply with Burning Arrow. Either way, I would definitely run the R/E over the Barrage build. Then again, I've always disliked Barrage, but that's another story altogether =P

In the forest you're dealing with elementalists and rangers, so I don't think they could remove hexes at all. However, your attributes are already spread pretty thin. You'd have to find a way to free up some points to get a decent fire spec to make rodgort's + fiery string worthwhile.

i guess that wouldn't work out.

for general PvE i use expertise 10, marksmanship 10, fire magic 11/channeling 11

but for farming use you would need some WS
