Default Does it really work? Mo/Me Raptor HM

http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:Mo...lo_Raptor_Farm

Well, I know the status is on "testing", but does this really work? I tried a few times but there were a few problems:

- the raptors are damn fast in HM, it's pretty hard to aggro many of them unless you take A LOT of hits (which usually means death)

- aggroing too many of them = you can't cast shit, even with mantra of resolve (20+ Disrupting Stabs = bye bye energy)

- Channeling wasn't that useful IMO, besides I think he forgot to skill on inspiration magic lol

- chaining SoA is impossible with the attribute distribution on PvXwiki, there's a downtime of roughly 1/2 second (usually more because of lag etc.), which is plenty for the raptors to kill you

well, just my 2 cents - post your opinions and experiences >.>

Is that supposed to be a 55 build with no prot spirit?

just use the one that works.

[protective spirit][Shield of Absorption][shielding hands][mantra of resolve][shield of judgment][radiation field][blessed aura][Balthazar's spirit]

3 sup runes, wierd considering no prot spirit to save himself. I also doubt this can take the boss as 120 life steal + bleeding and deepwound is gonna hurt with like 300 hp. Finally, i cant see how it can cope with the scatter of 20+ raptors hitting at once.

However, shouldnt this have been posted on the builds talk page or rate page rather then on guru.

You can't 55 the Broodmother, and I don't need any more ele swords.

I would recommend tweaking the ranger build that uses mist form instead.

Ive looked at that build and even to me it dont make any real sense.
You have only 2 types of dmg output - the sig and retribution which may work but as said whats to properly protect against being interupted and not sure but if u get interupted a lot by a lot of raptors you`ll either get no energy or it will end ( see mantra of resolve conditions ) .

Im sure ins4ne when posting the link is asking if anyone else has tried it and not asking for it to be tested.
I often look at testing builds on pvxwiki but any i do try i do after its been passed - who wants to continually test untested builds and waste $$$ on armor and runes and then find out builds been deleted as it wont work apart from the builds poster ( wont say creator as now ppl would agree someone has already a build you may have just thought of ).

The 55 build posted by Rakim works. Keep up mantra and you should be fine (maybe you get unlucky once or twice, but it's never much). Radiation field is there to deal with the scatter. They die anyway.

No it's not a 55 hp monk build, you run around with ~300-400 hp. Also SoJ = slow killing speed and with 55 hp you can't kill the broodmother like TheodenKing said.

There hasn't been any comment like in 5 days, so I thought guru would be better/faster =P

ot ftw?

And yes, I was asking whether someone has tried this him/herself. I was testing it with around 390 Hp / 60 Energy (w/ Asura Title track) and those stats:

Prot: 11 + 1 + 3
Divine: 6 + 3
Inspiration: 6
Smiting 11 + 3

didn't manage to kill a single raptor. I used some parts of my 55's armor and my normal armor (some survivor, some radiant, 3 superior runes).

I guess the build poster on pvxwiki just told some random things.

I get a feeling the author on pvxwiki did this in nm as it doesnt state nm or hm anywhere and most builds on there state nm or hm.
slightly off topic - i use perma sf sliver + radiation field for raptors in hm - takes on avg 4 mins a run and if sliver is behaving you can get broodmother as well in first attack ( slivers annoying when it comes to attacking/locking as ive seen it switch targets midway attacking )

If I ever want to farm them HM including boss I just use my Monk/Ele Build

[Mo/E Raptor Farm;OwYDgTyLTuDSfsDJD8Q5iwloCA]

Just cast 1-4 while on the outside of the cave, hustle through and agro as much as you can, than stand as close as you can to the boss and unleash 5-8, and then just recast stuff when necessary. Its not fool proof, like you will get interupted from time to time, but its fun, and possible to kill the boss for a monk.

Yeah, Mist Form definitely gets the job done in the raptor cave for just about any profession. The main thing I like to do differently is to use a glyph of sacrifice in front of mist (casts it instantly) and then cast mist form about midway through the aggro process (when the glyph is about to expire. Here's my "generic" build:

[build=OgYCk8yk7QcpyA7AqQuIPEOI]

Cast 1 and 2 at cave entrance. Let a raptor or two hit you now and then to keep your mental block going. Cast Mist Form as the sacrifice glyph blinks. Aggro the broodmother's group. Wait for the entire group to surround you (be patient). Cast the rest of the bar.

You can use the Air of Superiority instead of intensity, but I have found that your will get a skill recharge anyway when the broodmother goes down and usually you only need 2 cycles of sliver + boosts to wipe 25+ raptors.

If your profession has a some sort of fast casting blocking skill or an interrupt prevention, use that instead of mental block (like whirling defense for a ranger). Also Mindbender is a nice replacement for Armor of Mist if you have a high Asuran rank since it also give you half casting time too. Remember blocking + fast casting = interrupt prevention. Mist Form does not block interrupts.

the page header clearly states "Build:Mo/Me HM Solo Raptor Farm" tho. Unfortunately perma sf AND sliver is impossible on a monk~

Do you do it in HM? Tried it a few times and it was like .. very hard.
I have Asura R5, which means my Mental Block lasts ~7 secs with 20% ench mod, but "getting hit now and then" is pretty much based on luck, either you get way more hits than you want to get or they get blocked (in other words mental block won't refresh). Also, casting Magnetic Aura is also quite hard, even with the 1/4 sec casttime (20+ raptors spamming disrupting stab is not funny). In 90% of the time I tried I wasn't able to cast Sliver Armor and even if I managed to do it the Broodmother often survives (yes, I used Intensity and EBSoH).

@ Fragile Feeling
Unfortunately I don't have Air of Superiority yet and I don't really want to do the quest (norn rep point farm quest) :/, but it seems like it will work in HM.

That build on PvX didn't mention anything about farmin them in HM. Some builds you see that people post sometimes are for farming Raptors in NM, whichdon't make much sense to me... If you going to farm Raptors at all, why not do it in HM?

Marty - Rezdogg meant on pvxwiki its not stated if nm or hm and the poster im sure was asking if anyone tried the build in hm.
And people do farm raptors in nm mainly for festival drops same as ppl farm gok and bergen in nm just for orr emblems or a case of they not got hm access yet.
And yes ive farmed raptors in nm but by accident as it wasnt till 4 runs later i realised i wasnt in hm

Yeah, I works in HM but, yeah, it is a kind of touchy build. Personally, I use an Ele/Me nowadays for all my raptor farming (sliver+EBSOH+Intensity=40+ damage per sliver hit!). The trick with the build you are trying is to be very patient and fully let the mob engage you before you attempt your casts. You want to allow most of the raptors to have already wasted their disruptive stab (it will always be their lead attack) and have it recharging before you attempt your cast. And, yes, if your profession has any substitute for mental block, use it. Here's a video of a ranger doing it:

I was thinking the same thing about getting that skill, but I finally decided to get it because it isn't just useful for raptor farming. It's extremely useful anywhere u get numerous amounts of xp by killing stuff. As a monk I love having this skill on my bar because it recharges skills, gives me energy and health and many other important shouts that can prove useful. Also I found that I was tired of going on the norn farm because of PUGs that were just plain stupid, I would never have a run where somebody didn't leave. Books FTW.

Anyways, I am glad A/E Sliver farming will be back, that should be fun. It owns for farming Raptors.

If all else fails, make an Ele, Sin, or Mesmer for sliver farming Raptors. They all do runs in bout the same times.

With my monk I can`t really get it to work. In normal mode I can farm the raptors but mot the Boss.
In HM I die (probably from interrupts) even though Mantra of resolve is up.

I have tried several builds with my monk to farm Raptors including Boss but none have really worked.

In general I think there is no use for 55build as you cant get the Boss which gives 75 Asura points.

I hope there will come a MONK build that can handle the boss in HM
