Drop rate is ok with me, again 7 runs 5 ectos, but... its so annoying: You have a nice 15 smites-mob after you, you are at the perfect position... ah, wait you arent, you are in the patrolling route of coldfires! Oh here comes Maelstrom! Oh nice, wasted another 1k thanks to lags!

I hate it...

Oh noes... 5 ecto in 7 runs and your find time to bitch about you screwing up like that? I'd rather have the occasional warp and lag issue and actually get drops. 40 runs netting 1 ecto per 10 runs sound fair to you?

I had 4 ecto drop from smites today, and 2 black dyes drop off the squids the game before , also had several 2-3 ecto runs, and a rare -5/19% chance r12 gloom shield. The drops are there, it's like fishing, you don't always catch keepers to take home. Everyone has a couple 0 ecto runs, rubberband, and all out disconnects while tanking 20+ smites in a safe spot right before you drop your skill chain on them. It sucks.

The coldfire nights are easy to kill guys. At least I'm having absolutely no problems killing them unless body blocked by smites. I've been regularly killing coldfires upon accidental aggro WHILE tanking smites. I'm using 45 enchant +10 vs earth rare shield though, it helps cut the damage from their frozenburst or w/e it is they use when you get up close.

just a quick thought, what entrance is everyone using to enter UW? Prophecies, Factions or NF?

I dont think it matters, its all the same (the drops anyway). I personally use ToA (prophecies)= faster access to the statues :P.

Now you are ready to run to the Smite area. I think we all know how to do this, otherwise I suggest looking at other threads: it's explained everywhere.
[sorry already for this n00b-question]

:blushed: Hehe, I am kind of new to UW farming, and didn't find any good advice for this ele build how to run to smites after killing Grasping Darkness creeps. [tried search and checked some topics, etc.]

I tried to run that part by using the running spell, but I don't know how to run that part without getting the "extra" group of Graspings to chase my back -> kill me (as you can see, I am not very professional in UW, but help could help )

Anybody has some easy tip how to do that part [post link to the topic where's the info/help, youtube video (the one I watched had that part cutted off...), etc.] ? ;o

ps: This build rocks, great job for making/sharing it up Koning

There's a W/Me UW solo build on the farming forum that has the full run shown. i had to use that one to find the route the first time i tried this.

Boy I just bite at this. Everytime I pull the grasps I get interupted when i get the 2nd group down. if i don't get interupted i can't kill em in 1 shot so they come back and i get interupted trying to recast my stoneskin. oh well i just need to learn the pattern...lol.

There's another thread somewhere with a video where the run (with ele skills) is also done:http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...=fa st+e%2Fme

If you stand in the narrow space next to the right stairs, they all die because they can't run from your sandstorm, so you don't have to recast.
IF you are gonna recast, do it immediatly after you sandstorm/dragonstomp/aftershock combo, they rarely interrupt me than cause they all run away. (except 1, but you can watch his disrupting blow, mostly he uses it b4 you recast your aua)
Also, if you wanna make sure all the graspings have wasted their interrupts when they just came to you, attack a few times with your weapon. they will try to interrupt your attacks if they have their interrupt not wasted yet.

Ha ha!!1 The jokes on all fo you!

We Americans never have favor!! ;/

I've been looking at solo UW builds for smites. Easier then the other ele build I saw on you tube (Armor of Earth + others).
Seems straight forward.
Get quest, put the 3 enchants on, pull, AV, kill combo.

Ahh well looks like I have to wait about 5-6 hours until we get favor ...
(And hopefully my first ecto drop :P)

Yeah I've tried that but I get interupted...am i not supposed to let the first group attack and just grab the 2nd group right away? when i do that the graspings break aggro and go back up the stairs. =(. either way thanks...I just need to learn the tendecies better of the graspings i guess. =)

If you are luring the graspings to the spot next to the stairs, it's normal that 1 group runs back if you run straight to that spot. to prevent this, rest 1 sec in the middle on the platform where you first spawn, wait till they are on you, and proceed to the spot by tabbing forward key (w on my keybord) so you don't run in a straight line but have some stops. You can see this a bit in the video where i take on all groups.

This is really funny at times.. especially when the smites run away with around 5hp then you can just wand them to death and even divine intervention doesn't save them (1hit kill )
I got my first ecto at the secon run right before my enchantments were ending and some coldfires came towards me. tried to pick it up but.... "invertory full"
Just in time i dropped some crappy smite rod and picked it up before i died.

the grasps are really scary once the disrupt you youre about dead.

truely is easy..but for beginners who don't know the paths of the monsters down there then it could be tuff....only thing you can do is go down and experiment...there is a set path for everything down there. Once you figure out the safe spots then the coldfires are easily avoidable. Anyways..it's after 1am just wanted to post this cuz I see some poeple that may be new to the whole UW thing... and are just haveing a hard time knowing where to stop and fight the smites at.

So far 2 nights and 6 ectos...tonight only did 2 runs...and got 3 ectos..it's all good though since I'm doing it solo now...thanks again!

sometimes it sucks when you mess up with a big group of smites and they just won't seem to stay on you til they get there health almost to full health..but that situation is pretty rare.

Also..I finished a run and decided to try to kill the coldfires...I couldn't do it..if you did then you must being doing something different...very much a pain to kill them. Running is a better option..even then they will sometimes chase you through the complete map area. LOL

If I die during the run it's generally at the point where I have to run from the chamber to the smites. My trick is to wait in the first chamber and watch the movement. The Grasping Darknesses walk in like a triangle...to each exit of that "chamber". I wait until they get to the path I need to run down and then go for it...as I run they will start moving away...then I re-apply Storm Djinn's Haste and peg it past the Aatxes and up to the smites. Kind of hard to explain but I hope it helps.

This is so SO annoying...rarely I manage to accidentally catch their aggro and it really hurts because they just never seem to give up chasing! I did almost manage to kill some onece though...the trick seems to be you *hope* they case Maelstrom first...let them cast it...then run up to them and do the Sandstorm>Dragon's Stomp>Aftershock thing...nearly worked for me once but it's SO not worth the hassle!!

Finally kinda figured it out...the graspings are what get me. I can't get the whole 1 large aggro thing on them so I do it in 2 groups in the 1st chamber. then i swap my headpiece to get the xtra 3 sec run and haul butt. the smites are easy enough and it is annoying when they take off running and your sitting there trying to kill em. In 4 runs i got 2 ecto's...just wish there was a way to kill the bulls.
