Default Salvaging Guide

So I have bout 800 random gold drops that I will ID. I will salvage out the salvage insc. but where should I put the salvage insc. to salvage? Any quick and easy guide on what yields some rare drops? and does the salvage insc. increase the chance of rare salvages?

I believe it does increase rare mats, but I'm not sure. So I'd say add it to things like ruby mauls or ruby daggers, or anything in general that you want more mats/rare mats from.

+1 For Ruby items, I tend to get a pretty good ratio of Rubies from them

And another +1 on ruby items, jeweled daggers (think it is) works too, gives sapphires. I have done some salvaging of ruby items with the insc, I would say it's about a ruby ea third/fourth item I salvage. Used to do this a lot when I was chestrunning in "Mirror of the lyss".

True guide:

Salvage white/blue non-increased-value, that give iron/dust/granite, using lowbie salvage kits (4g/per).

Use highly salv insc on golds worth more than 320g (without increased-value - 4g/per), or on jeweled/ruby/etc (use superior! 20g/per). I've gotten about 8 rubies this way, and I've gotten 145 dust off ~320g conch's.

From raptor farming, I only salvage with the inscript off conches and sageblades gold/purp. The rest I find dont yield too much. Conches usually +90dust sageblades +30iron.

If you chestrun vabbi, u would get those gemmed item, like ruby maul, jeweled dags. Can get saphs or rubies off of those. Most ive gotten is 2 on one salvage.

Not sure about the rest of you, but I had terrible luck with ruby mauls...the daggers were great, and jeweled dags even better.

Jeweled staffs, however, won't give you the rare drop you want.

Gold Conch worth 400 gp and more should yield about 140 - 160 Glitter Dust with highly salvageable inscripts. If they are worth 260 or less I would advice to merchant them off. The item's value does affect the quantity of mats. The problem using inscripts to get iron ingots is that you have a high probability of getting steel which is not desirable.

Sorry, I don't have a screenshot but I stuck a Measure for Measure on a gold Iridescent Aegis and it salvaged into ONE pile of glittering dust. I'm thinking that it might have "rolled over" the 250 max back to 1.

Um reread what I said. I'm talking bringing a normal (e.g. 4g/salvage) kit as well, so you *DON'T* get stuck with steel when you want iron...

Just backing Coney up .

Rule of thumb that works - if after normal materials use m4m incs with normal salv kits , if after rare materials ( chance wise ) then use expert/superior.
I have seen ppl swear by expert kits on m4m insc but then complain when they get steel instead of iron.
Shame we dont have a salvage title that can increase the chance of a rare material salvage

Same here, I have salvaged well over 50 ruby mauls from the Norn area, put highly salvage insc etc on them and have never had one ruby

Jeweled staves will give you a butt-load of scales if you slap a measure for measure on one....best one for me so far 132 scales off one salvage
