Then all there is dealing any damage is Retribution, which isn't terribly fast to kill stuff with on its own.
That is a grave misunderstanding of how Holy Wrath works. It will continue to do damage, whether or not there is energy left to subtract.

Yes, he is supposed to.
When the runner is a monk who can cast his own Spellbreaker, it is even a good idea to disable Blessed Sig, so that the smiter hero concentrates on his self healing. After casting his enchants, the smiter has no need of energy any more - unless you die and need to be rezzed.

As to the rest: I'm afraid I can't reconstruct your problem. Some foes take a bit longer to kill than others, but in the majority of cases they are all dead 10-15 secs after Spellbreaker has run out. The toughest usually - apart from the monks - are the undead eles and the charr necros: as long as they keep casting on you (once SB has run out), they don't take damage, so you must wait for them to wand you or attack you physically. Sometimes it helps to attack them yourself, but the rest of the time you will have to simply last until they run out of energy.

If you want to check how long it takes other runners, simply join a running group and see for yourself. Even if it is a bad runner (and there are loads of them out there!), you will get an idea on how this compares to your own dealings.

The optimum health is actually 740. The reason for this is 16 in smite. Holy Wrath is 53 and Retribution is 21. 740 damage at 10% is 74... which is exactly the amount HW and Retribution deal back.
This isn't quite right. Holy Wrath returns 66% of damage taken, up to 53 damage max at 16 smite. Thus, you need to be taking 80 damage to reflect 53 damage back (80 * .66 = 53). Retribution returns 33% of damage taken, up to 21 damage max at 16 smite. Thus, you need to be taking 63 damage to reflect 21 damage back. Of course, if you're only taking 63 damage you might max out retribution but you won't be maxing out holy wrath yet...so you need to be taking 80 damage per hit to max out both. Thus, you need roughly 800 health for max efficiency.

Yeah, I thought 800ish was on point for max Holy Wrath. Thanks for verifying my math Speedy.

Hrmm, more efficient is hard to say. SS is probably harder to run but faster; Soul Reaping is easier but slower.

[[icy veins] would be better than running SS for CoF.
Something like this:
[build=OANCY8zkW0dV9QNzNINp+QIB]

hmm adding atrophy for the curses build might help for DSC runs to kill seasons/summer's faster with SS

EDIT* scratch that >__> forgot it was primary, could do Wail of Doom or Defile flesh i guess

Sweet man 5/5!

Finally a decent mesmer build that allows me to solo up to four dungeons now. (variants ofc) I wasn't totally sure on how to achieve a decent 600 on a mesmer before this.
