Default Figured out how to use 55mo to Solo UW

Hi there guys. I realize using 55mo to solo UW is horribly inefficient, but I'm pretty cheap and don't want to buy EoTN to be able to perma, so that's what I run with. That, and I'm old school and have only been getting back into GW for the past month or two, so I'm going with what I have.

Anyway, this thread is mainly directed at those who, like me, don't have EoTN or are just getting back into the game and have a 55mo.

So, you can do this alone or with a Hero (MOX in my case, since you don't need to do anything to get him).

Solo, I ran the same build I run to do most other farms - Prot Spir, Healing Breeze, Arcane Echo, Ray of Judge, Essence Bond, Balths Aura, Mending, and Mantra of Resolve.

With MOX, I just gave him SB and Resurrect. I'm going to try giving him Zealots Fire in the morning. I'm pretty sure other smiting spells cause scatter, so that's about it.

Now, I realize I didn't figure out something special or anything, and what I do is pretty obvious... Simply cast your 3 maintained's and go to the first group of Aatxe (2 + the 1 that paces, =3) on the left. So far, of my 8 runs to get the system worked out, there's only been an NM there 4 of the 8. However, I'm pretty sure the NM's don't spawn if you're not running any enchants, so you can't just run over there and expect them to pop up. It could happen, but it could not, so cast your 3 maintaineds.

Once the NM spawns, use prot spir right away. Chances are you've already aggroed the Aatxe. I think there's a way to get them to drop aggro, but I forget, so I just use my ninja-like reflexes to recast prot spir before I get hit. Cast Prot Spir before the aatxe gets you, then wand the NM. Recast all your spells (keeping up PS and HB, and cast BA and EB first). Once you get everything setup, it's just the simple AE+RoJ+RoJ+RoJ+AE+RoJ+RoJ. Takes about a minute to kill each group of Aatxe.

After the first group, you can usually aggro NM without Aatxe. If you can't, same procedure. I basically did this, then clear the chamber (Grasping only take 2 RoJ's to kill, so they can be taken out in ~10 secs). I made my way to the smites, and cleared nearly all of the smites before I accidently aggroed Coldfires and got ownt.

If you go with MOX, basically use him to cast SB on yourself. Speeds up the process quite a bit, and I'll probably be experimenting with using him for mending/BA/EB/etc, as well as... well, everything. The only problem I had in my 2 test runs with him was that I'd forget to target myself, so he'd cast SB on himself and I'd get FUBARed.

Also, on another note... I cleared aatxe and 90% of smites and didn't get any ectos at all yesterday. Wtf? Did they lower drop rates epically?

I've done 15 full smite runs in my entire life. Only got 1 ecto. Unless you've done at the very least 100 full runs then don't even think about suspecting that drop rates have been lowered. It's just luck.

You don't need Eye of the North to Perma.

Think of it this way, if you have one ecto for three smite runs you are average.

One of countless ignorants without a calculator. I was running perma Shadow Form before 99% of the community knew the ability existed and before 100% of the community had Glyph of Swiftness. The trick is that it takes a quarter of a brain to do so and most people who didn't run it before probably couldn't figure it out now.

To the OP: Don't let the low overall relevance/use of any particular farming build distract you from doing something you enjoy. 55 still works in many places and, even if it's not as fast or effective as some other builds (we all know what they all are), if you enjoy what you're doing you'll be able to farm with a lot more dedication than if you were to mindlessly grind out cash using some build you hate.

Also, for fun, try using Spoil Victor or Spiteful Spirit from the Necro line as your elites. They both complement the 55 mechanic very well.

You do not need eotn to perma, all you need really is deadly paradox and arcane echo to perma. At rank 16 shadow arts you can perma on a a/me with both you have to time when you use your arcane echo copy of shadowform

From what I've read on here, using A/Me to perma is extremely slow, and I thought the A/Me spell used to damage required EoTN?

Thanks to everyone, btw =)

and about the ecto drops, there was once a time when there was only prophecies and UW was a pretty elite place even before HM...solo trapping UW at least 1 ecto per run...

Remember having to switch 20% enchant/non enchant weapon sets with echo'd SF to perma? *sigh* Good times, good times...

To the OP:

What build are you using exactly?

It works, but it's slower and you can occasionally run into energy problems. If you aggro bigger groups, you won't have problems with e-management, but at the same time, if you aggro bigger groups, you run the risk of more nightmares than you can handle. RoJ also recharges faster.

I started with SoJ because I thought they'd scatter with RoJ, but they don't. I think it takes at least 4 SoJ's, so that's about a minute and a half. It takes 5 RoJ's, which is about 50 seconds.

It will work, you just need to be more careful with your energy.

Also, Zealots fire causes scatter. I gave MOX Mending and Watchful Spir to clear up 1 spot on my bar and get another +1 pip of e-regen, then tried ZF. It causes scatter, as do the other smiting spells I've tried. Evidently, heroes can't resurrect you in UW, either.

Soloing UW as a 55 is doable without any heroes, though it is markedly more difficult to get used to.

IIRC I was running something like this the other night:

[Protective Spirit][Healing Breeze][Guardian][Glyph of Swiftness][Storm Djinn's Haste][Shield of Judgement][Balthazar's Spirit][Mending]

If you don't have EotN, Glyph can be replaced with [Zealot's Fire]. The only catch is that the build requires you to just run away from Nightmares and recast your enchants.

I'm pretty sure ZF causes scatter.

Also, RoJ is much much faster than SoJ.
