Hello,

Picked up GW again after 2 or 3 years and managed to get it installed and all. My question is, since I don't own Nightfall or EotN, will I really be able to do anything in the way of getting some gold or items? I got frustrated partway through the Factions campaign because I was having a tough time figuring out how to play an Assassin. I figured it would be fun to go farming a bit before trying to crack that nut again.

So is it possible? Or, as I suspect, has everything been nerfed so that I have to buy the two new campaigns to stand a chance?

if your gunna try to farm later on get a ritualist. i started playing with factions when got prophecies so i remember some of the old builds and some new ones that can work. i think its agaisnt to rules to ask for builds or sumting but gimme a ping in game and i can help you with farming factions & try to help build some decent bars. my in game name is....

Haha, they finally get a farming forum here and it's against the rules to post builds - pretty funny :P Anyways, I found the pvxwiki earlier and didn't see any builds that didn't at least rely on skills for Nightfall / EotN, so I suppose I could try to hit you in-game sometime although I'm done for the day.

Ritualist, huh? Darn, it's hard enough hammering this Assassin through the campaign. Took me 3 or 4 tries and a look at the wiki today just to manage to kill Captain Quimang (didn't realize I needed to gather guards to help). I'll do what I can, though I want to finish the campaign with my Assassin first...

In the meantime, I remember I had a lot of fun for a while doing this arena - the one where you have to defend shrines that had NPC guards, and you get Kurzick / Luxon faction points for doing it. I couldn't find it with a cursory glance at the map, could someone remind me of the name? And do you have to be in an allied guild to do so? (I left my old guild and formed my own, not realizing that you have to beat factions in order to ally with either side)

you can try 55 necro farming hydras in augury or minotaurs in ice tooth

It's not against the rules to post builds. Asking generic questions like 'whats a good build for x' will get your thread closed. Posting asking for builds is ok as long as the OP has made an effort to put in time themselves. In you case, this would mean finding some builds that look good, posting them, and seeing if we can modify them to make them work without NF/EotN skills.

I think you mean Alliance Battle.

Thanks for the replies - alliance battles, lol don't know why I couldn't come up with that. Didn't see the arena I need but that's probably because I didn't make it to the end of the Factions campaign yet. I'm gonna try to grind through that so I can start playing them again, good times and IIRC you don't have to have every skill in the world to decently in them.

Thanks for the suggestion, dtru89, I tried 55 farming the hydras with my monk at Augury earlier today, the drops were pretty lousy though, even in hard mode. Ended up with one purple

I ended up ordering Nightfall because it was only 10bux and I hear it has a bit of meat on the bones, so to speak. Waiting on EotN, it was the same price but sounded like it doesn't have much other than grind + GW2 is coming soon... Still, I'm hoping that Nightfall might open up my options a bit in farming/PvP while still giving me some interesting things to do in the meantime.

-farm the Defend Kryta (LA) quest with 55/600hp monk, or with 330hp rit in HM -> ~10 gold runes, possible magmas shield from titans and chests / run
-farm smites in UW with VwK warrior -> 1-2 ecto + some nice gold items, if lucky / run
-join UWSC-s with N/Rt -> UW endchest, but it can be hard, to find a good team (loads of failers in PuG-s)

If you want to try an Ele - I have a Guildie who farms feathers in the mountains outside Seitung Harbour using hers, she sells stacks of feathers 6-7 at a time!

She does have time on her hands - so it takes a while, but even a stack will for about 10k. Her Build is nothing special being either E/Me or E/Mo and using Earth magic and seems to involve gathering the mobs together and then letting go in massive AoE damage.

You can farm prophecies if you own it. You can farm it EASIER with skills from Nightfall and EOTN. But Prophecies isn't broken. The same goes for Factions.

Feather farming in the Jaya Bluffs is brilliant. So much easier than doing North Kryta in hard mode. I did it on my Dervish initially, then I switched over to using my Ritualist to farm and it's quicker and I net more feathers on average. Basic spirit spam with Painful Bond and Spiritleech Aura (though that is certainly optional) and they die very quickly.
