Default W/N + P Raptor Farmer

Okay, I'm doing the W/N HM raptor farmer with a paragon hero. I use the typical Mark of pain - Dolyak Symbol - Endure Pain- protectors defense - Hundred Blades - by Urals hammer - Wary Stance - Whirlwind attack.

My question is - why won't the boss die all the time? It seems random. When he dies, I get decent drops and decent reputation. When he doesn't die, I get lousy drops with sometimes a rare gold item, but normally die before I can collect them all by the boss.

I *ALWAYS* cast Mark of pain, always gather all the raptors, and always wait until they are all surrounded and in range.

The Raptors *ALWAYS* die, but the boss hardly does. When she does die, it just seems random, as I do nothing different.

So my question is - Do people always kill the boss? How?

Your not getting enough raptors. The more raptors you gather, the more damage mark of pain + HB does.

either get them all, or use a superior swordsman ship, with superior you can usually skip a few raptors.

Blame it on lag. Sometimes when you look like you are completely stopped, theres that split second where you quite arent and you'll jump back a lil. My belief is it throws off her AI with respects to moving. Doesnt mean Im right on this.

I always kill her when I run str8 to my spot (beside the plant) without having to side to side for definite aggro. The small couple of times she's able to jump out is seems like I had to do a little extra work to aggro.

You should eaisly kill her 90%+ of the time. It happens. Keep working on. You'll get it down. No one kills her 100% of the time...as in everyone has had her jump out of range.

But agree with above..make sure you are getting all of them. 34 is best...33 works...32 n under chances to fail go up a lot.

Tip. If you get frustrated about it. Leave it be for a couple of days....then go back at it. First time I tried it, I failed 90% of the time. Gave up. Second time, I came back about a month later because of a rep point weekend, and it clicked for me.

Most likely they aren't all on you when you whirlwind

OR

You are like this
o=You
<=Raptor
_=wall
X=boss
____
< o X
<<<<<

Where the raptor on the left has the MoP, and boss won't take all the damage from it.

and the times i dont, i actually just quickly pop an summon stone, and hes dead..
but yeah, superior sword, use it, thats the most common fault new farmers do

One of my first problems was that I wasn't getting my whirlwind off before MoP expired. If you get it off quick, you may have better luck, give it a try.

also, I've never done w/n raptor farm, so can't tell from a personal experience, but I've heard from others that you should never MoP the boss. One of the raptors around him.

A lot of people mentioned things I already know. I always collect all raptors- maybe that was my problem, because the truth was. . . MOP ran out!

I decided to call an alliance member to see if he could show me how it's done. He asked if the boss was left with a sliver of health or 3/4 health. I mentioned 3/4th, and he said it was MoP running out. Me being an idiot, I didn't realize that without Mop, you could kill the rest of the raptors.

I guess I was casting MoP too early, and not being patient enough to wait for raptors to gather closer so I could run and aggro faster. Thanks for the replies guys.

Sure most people know about using:

Knight Insignias
Highest Vigor you can find
Major/Superior Sword Rune

But what alot of people dont consider is what shield you are using before going down there. Now most people like the -5dmg (20%) mod which I'm not fond of but they dont consider the type of ennemies. Raptors are Assassins and Assassins do Piercing damage most of the time (most but not always)

Back when raptor farming was new, I used to recommend this to alot of people based on the fact that Raptor=Assassin=Piercing damage. However, I have gone from a +10AR vs Piercing shield to a +10AR vs Slashing shield to my typical -2dmg while in Stance shield and I have to admit that I cant say that I see a big difference. Unless that Raptors are considered to do Blunt damage, since they use their front legs which would be beyond my understanding of why lol.

But a +10AR vs Slashing shield is worth considering, You might find yourself living longer.

I found out by counting that this was my problem also.....
So,..... one one thousand,.... two one thousand,...Three one thousand...
you only have 30 seconds to hit the whirlwind.......

I just started warrior raptor farming last night. I've done a ton of raptor farming with ele, mes, necro, and ranger so I've got a pretty good feel for the spawns and how to aggro the cave efficiently. Mark of Pain lasts for 30 seconds, so I really doubt that it is wearing off. What is happening is that the nestling hexed with Mark of Pain happens to be on the opposite side of you as the Broodmother so isn't "adjacent". The trick is to run into a wall so that the raptors are forced to all be on the same side and therefore adjacent to each other.

Playing around with the para last night, this seemed to work the best for me:

Vocal was Sogolon: shouts last 44% longer (item spell)
Enduring Harmony: shouts last another 50% longer (they do stack)
Can't Touch This: Broodmother won't be able to use twisting jaws on you
Make Haste: 33% running skill

With this chain I could just flag the para at the shrine, cast her shouts at me and then they would last plenty long enough for me to do the full aggro without any worries of them running out and also not having to deal with the para following me to the mouth of the cave and possibly picking up Angorodon aggro. I know the really leetsauce guys like to have the running boost on them all the time (bringing Fall Back or Incoming to boost you to the shrine itself) but I would not recommend letting the hero cast this freely. I did notice that if you have Make Haste and Fall Back both cast on you at the same time, even though IMS is supposed to be capped at 33%, the raptors would not want to hold aggro and would wander off.

I'm running a superior swords headpiece and a major strength too, so I can let one raptor not get aggro'd and still kill the Broodmother (which is nice because sometimes there is one that is waaaay up near the north side and another that is sometimes in the group with the Broodmother but actually a loner so it doesn't follow the Broodmother group to you). Like the Ranger farm I am used to, you want to be really patient and let all the red dots on your radar become a single dot before nuking them.

Otherwise this farm is absolutely amazing and with practice, you can get pretty consistent with it. Yes, it probably does fail a bit more than the Ele/Mes that I am used to but the speed of the run should easily make up for the failed runs (I'll need to actually track the times and rate of failure to know for sure). Contrary to what people are saying, the insta-gib doesn't have an effect on the drops as far I can tell so far, tracking about 50 successful runs and comparing it to my Ele/Mes drop data.

UPDATE: After almost a week. I find that ["Finish Him!"] deserves a place on the bar replacing [Endure Pain]. This way, you can definitely leave 2-3 raptors behind if needed and still finish of the broodmother with that finish shout. I would say the main cause of run failure is spending too much time aggro'ing. Contrary to what I said earlier, [Mark of Pain] clearly DOES wear off if you screw around too much chasing lone raptors. Also if you know your are running late, you tend to not place yourself in optimal position.
