Default Getting into the Farm Trade

HI, im relatively new to farming, the most i ever did was vanquish a few places for fun. I have been playing GW for about a yr and a half, very casual nothing hardcore. I have a derv which i beat all campaigns with, and who carries the cheapest max armor

Herein lies my problem... After lurking these forums for a few days, there's like a WHOLE new side of GW the casual gamer never sees. I Have NEVER until recently heard about DoA, SE, UW or SCs, nor the massive coordination needed for these elite missions...i wanna get into that. Both for the Fun and the loot (Im tired of walking around in yellow 15k armor).

After reading I have noticed dervs aren't sort after for those elite missions so i know i will have to use another class. SO feel free to recommend a class to me so i can join in on the farm fest, I'm kinda lost as to what classes are sort after, post- SF nerf. I'm fine with anything , except maybe monk ( i tend to lagg a bit) , don't want anyone dieing because of my lagg. Versatile classes which can farm outside of elite mission would be cool too. Pardon my noobness and thanks in advance for responses

Just go through the latest threads. Most of the build concepts still work. Perma's still tank, Hundred Blades Wars still AoE kill everything, etc.

SF really wasn't hit all that hard. It's a change, but for the most part, team builds are just being adapted rather than overhauled,

My suggestion: find an active and helpfull guild... make Elite areas with experienced player to figure out how do they work.

farming is fun, but even more enjoyable with a good team...

unfortunately Lag will be a problem for you no matter what class you play and my suggestion would be to try it out on a monk (or necro) to get a feel for what you need to be able to do.

So many classes are used in team farms ( war, rit, monks, necros, eles, mesmers, dervs, sins, and even my favorite the paragon )

look into the farming thread section on these forums (some will still work) and create your desired character then try the farm out. There are alot of good guilds out there that will teach and help you figure out the best builds to use and will even show you the "best" way to achieve your goal. yet the exception here is alot of the "experienced" guilds will require you to have multiple characters available to be able to run different roles in their team farms (speed clears).

my personal feelings are that a monk (or necro) is a must since there are so many more farming areas for a 55/105 monk/necro and they give you the best opportunity to learn the mechanics of becoming a decent solo farmer.

Second to what the guy said above - monks have a place in pretty much all SC teams, but often as a healing role which personally I find a little boring so I don't usually play my monk in these situations.

Necs are great. Very versatile profession. My main is my nec, and having a good MoP is crucial to any manly spike. However, you need some experience as you're expected to call a target etc. You'll find other roles to fill as a nec though, i.e. BiP or Orders if appropriate. There's also a lot that you can do solo as a nec, same goes for monk.

Eles are coming back in a big way right now. They're pretty much just as viable for tanking now as perma sins are, and they have the advantage of being able to play others roles. You'll see a lot of E/Mo in SCs using Ether Renewal Builds. Also there's room for nukers in casterspikes etc.

At a push, I could suggest a warrior. Very fun to play but their role in SC is very limited to the 100b build, except in the Canthan Elite missions as tanks.

My advice is to choose either a monk/nec/ele because of their roles in SCs and viability as solo chars. Which continent doesn't really make any difference - I usually choose Factions because it's the quickest levelling. Complete Nightfall (for DoA/PvE skills) and complete EotN (Dungeons/PvE Skills). Try to get an SS/LB rank of atleast 8/5 and EotN ranks of 4-5+ You'll need the most important PvE skills (you'll soon know what they are from builds you see here and wiki). Finally, if you have the time, complete Cantha. It's a pretty easy campaign and it's a lot of fun, and you'll need to be there to up your kurz/lux rank (again for PvE skills!). This'll take a little bit longer now after the DSC nerf, and you'll need a monk to DSC but it's still doable.

Feel free to PM me here if you have any questions

One thing I'd really like to emphasize is although there are tried and true methods of farming many places with set builds and set team builds, don't be afraid to try and think outside the box and be creative - coming up with your own farming builds may not be the fastest, but if it works, it's a heckuva good feeling.

Yep, this can be true. But the reason that there is a lot of builds under "Great" on PvX is because they really are great. Of course they don't cover every single thing you may want to farm so it comes in handy then to use your initiative!
