Assuming you mean Charged Blackness, not Charging (not that it matters).
Are they in range? As in, can they target you with Lightning Surge? Perhaps the switch of elites means the AI chases you further in hope of landing that KD. Perhaps it's just a bug. Are you using a speed boost? You're going to have to be more specific if you want a specific reason. EDIT: Well, you figured it out, so I might as well /close.
