Default Ruby and Sapphire Farming

With the HOM update Rubies and Sapphires have been cleaned out of the rare material trader. Wiki suggests that these drop from lots of different mobs and I am wondering if anyone knows of an ideal location to try to farm these. Is running trade contract missions worthwhile?

rubies can be had from using highly salvageable inscrips on gold ruby mauls and daggers. no guarantee you'll get one, but i always make the attempt if i'm farming. i get quite a few mauls while vaettir farming. most of my sapphires have come from hidden treasures in CoF.

Do all the Vabbian quests on all your chars which give Trade Contracts, which you can trade in Kodash for rubies and sapphs.

Otherwise Anti Welfare has good suggestions.

The trade contract grind seems awful as each character can get at most 27 contracts from missions which is 3.8 gems per character. Since it takes 28 gems to make Vabbian armor for the HOM and 7 contracts per gem which is a total of 196 contracts.

Enjoy farming these, they are pretty un-farmable and I don't see them being available at the trader for a long time!

You can always wait for prices to go back down.
They haven't said anything about a release and its likely a good bit away (at minimum Q2 of next year but more realistically Q4)
After everyone gets their armor in these next 2 months then prices should go down again
(I say 2 months becuz with halloween event coming lots of people wil make money then and buy their armor after the event)

geodes too........those can be farmed, though the salvage rate for r/s is pretty low

The drop rate is so low that I'm going to wager that repeatedly rolling a new character to do the trade contract quests would have the best yield/time.

Most of the rubies and sapphires I see drop are in UW. Maybe its just because they are a higher level that the chances are higher, or maybe its just luck.

On the other hand ive seen em drop in low level areas as well.

All in all, today, I've ran CoF and had about 8 Sapphires drop from the end chest. Not bad for such a short little speedclear with builds you see on Wiki. Might end up being profitable again.

You could try the rain/rock beetles in The Mirror of Lyss, either go south of Mikanu Township or north of the Kodash Bazaar. They drop Geodes which sometimes salvage into rubies/saphs.
Other than that, IMO it's easier to farm something else and buy them from other people if you need Vabbi for your HoM.

ok without reading all above ( if already said then ignore ) ruby/saph have to be the hardest to actually farm which would explain the high prices but places that they may be farmed are - ruby/saphire djinn in nf , salv from geodes + ruby weapons/ruby/saph djinn essences but all of those have such a low chance its not worth the effort - ive exp salvaged around 40 ruby djinn essences and never had 1 and there are people that do get lucky and get a few.Ive only had 1 ever drop and that was a few days ago when i was messing around outside ran masu gardens with the mantids an sin mantid boss - was shocked when a ruby dropped but after 20 more tries nothing of value dropped.
If i was after ruby/saph id either go for trade contracts and exchange or farm granite ( not hard to farm tbh ) and use the cash from selling granite stacks to buy ruby/saph ( which may be fastest option going )

These are annoying to farm.

My suggestions are UW and FoW, I usually get a ruby or so from every FoWSC clear and the rest of the money can be used for purchasing others from players.

Also of note, the farms in vabbi are nice.

On occasion one may get a gem off of the imps (kryta).

I find a good farm to be the Zealous Axe Farm in Old Ascalon, the elementals drop lots of granite/lockpicks/merch junk (sell and buy gems from players) and will sometimes drop a ruby or sapphire.

From recently reading wiki it seems that some crimson skull and Am Fah drop rubies and sapphires. Can anyone confirm or deny if this is viable?

The free treasures are also good to keep up to date on.

guess ill post my farm build for those:

SoS player(make sure you spread out the spirits and use painfull bond [ i think its called that] ) + Bonder Hero. ( life barrier/life bond/ vital blessing / succor )

go and kill some stone/rain beetles( nightfall), pick up their geodes. (preferably in NM as they are easier and the drop of coll. items are same in NM and HM) their are some kournan guys just behind those beetles, kill them asewell as they drop kournan coins, wich can be used to make an Superior salvage kit. (think 5 at Smuggler (collector)
when you got bout 20, buy/collect an SUPERIOR SALVAGE KIT (100 uses, skin is gold +- costs bout 2K i thought/5 K coins)
then just salvage those geodes...
sometimes you'll get sapphires or rubys... ive had my 28 gems in bout 2 days with those geode farming (3H / day average).

Enjoy (if you use it ) !!

Thank you, otherwise i'll miss some more gems.
I'm doing vabbi VQ this few days and I skipped those geodes like most of others white items. Fortunately I still have a few areas left and hopefully i'll get a ruby from them.
