Default Stagnant Farming

The Glint AFK post made me think. Is Glint's the only farming opportunity where you can just leave your party in one place and the enemies keep dropping items? I know in Zos Shivros, another defensive challenge mission, the enemies don't drop items at all (I'm assuming it's to stop farming.) Are there any other missions, challenge or otherwise, where you can just dump your heroes down and then collect items at the end?

There is a quest in NF that enemy's swarm to your location.. i cant think of the name of the quest. The quest takes place in Fortress of Jalitas (however it is spelled). Where you defend the fortress for 5 wave of enemys. I can't for the life of me think of where you get the quest from though.

you can try the nightfall's mission 'Nundu Bay'
I'm not sure if you can let heroes kill the Harbringers without purified water..

You could try Dzagonur Bastion. Put all the whispers to one side then flag your heroes in the between the other two so they get agro (might be hard). Not sure if the enemies that keep spawning out of the portals drop items though.

I'm surprised NO ONE bothered to mention this. MALLYX!!! Hell if you have multiple accounts you just load up a team build on each and go afk. Is the loot good?? It's random. Chance at any 4 gems, random golds, and the odd q7/15 - q8/16 shield.

Requirements:
You need to have done the 4 prior DoA quests to access Mallyx
You need to be capable of making decent builds
Having a high LB title makes things easier (duh?!)

Optional:
Equip all your heroes with +5e and 20% enchantments or +5e and +30hp depending on setup(s).
Equip all your heroes with +10 demon shields (you can buy DoA greens for dirt cheap)

Additional notes:
NO BUILD IS 100% FOOL PROOF. Shit happens and heroes die.
I've had some "lucky" runs where I would observe my heroes near party wipe and pulled through regardless.
Been doing this since the 7H update on all 10 different professions. Besides having a good build you need to be a bit lucky at times. Unless you decide to intervene in which case you're not really AFK and letting your heroes do the work. =p
If you die and return back to outpost you receive absolutely nothing. So pay attention to what's going on from time to time or attempt to fix the problem. Find out what's giving you problems (which you can easily observe since you are not doing anything anyways) and fix it.
You may want to stick to normal mode. Hard mode is a little hard for your intellectually challenged heroes. Probably no point loot wise anyways.
Last but not least. No, I do not kill Mallyx nor do I turn in his quest. There's no point in repeatedly doing the 4 prior DoA quests just to access Mallyx.

That's a really good idea, I think I might give it a try.

What are you using for hero builds if I may ask? I typically run a shelter rit, a SoGM rit, two panic mesmers, a curses necro, a UA and a support necro when I do DoA and it works pretty well, but I'm not sure it'd be capable of clearing stuff without me guiding positioning and microing and whatnot.

I actually thought of this in Jennur's Horde. Clear out the mission up to the final Harbinger and camp at the last single spirit while the spawns waste themselves on you. Not sure if they continue dropping loot though.

Notes

Spawned Margonite groups do not drop loot or give experience, this prevents possible exploitation of farming of loot and/or experience using heroes.

Speaking of DoA, Breaching the Stygian Veil spawns multiple foes with predetermined paths and spawns. The foes spawned in that quest do drop items, and there's ~100 or so. If you can do Mallyx afk, that would probably be the better option, if only for the chance for all the gems.

Tried Stygian afk awhile ago and didn't like it so I settled on Mallyx just for that reason alone.

Ive not seen that as a primary but i do recall a secondary quest that pre barrage nerf was i think near or in the fortress of jahai and you had several waves of margonites - could be that quest.

As for the challenges you mentioned - they are part of factions and probably the first attempt by anet at challenges and they only gave a gold / score reward. Also i think the ones in lux/kurz were designed to give faction reward as well ( hence hfff pre nerf ).
Nightfall challenges actually play a specific role and i think all 3 in nightfall ( im sure tho its 2 ) gives an item that you use for hero armor and glints in eotn carried that role on.

Nundu bay is more lol`able because you can actually farm that mission in both modes - when you enter DO NOT speak to the npc at start and you just walk outside and kill everything going - most groups will stand there and often will attack only when you attack or in range. Its quite comical to do and a nice way to get margo masks etc.

Temple of the intolerable? I wonder if they spawn indefinitely. If they are, I smell hornbow, confessor's orders

Mallyx is ridiculous. That freaking Enraged makes Searing Flames and random shit hit for 300+ damage. Which isn't too bad, except heroes have terrible priority for interrupts/shutdown/prot/everything. And they can't maintain Shelter either when I give them a bar with Soul Twisting, Shelter, and 6 empty skills. Meh.

I didn't even get a single non-white drop for doing the first 8-10 waves 3 times. Not worth it.
