When thinking of the gold drop rate of like 1:8 id say 1chest/minute should be the minimum for me to keep running there frequently.

I'm 99,9% sure steel chests in southern shiverpeaks don't even drop gold items, since the keys only cost 80g.
So they are comparable to the Shing Yea Chests (canthan tutorial...)

So i doubt you'll get req8 golds from it. Also req8 max staves don't drop anymore at all...

He was talking about southern shiverpeaks not northern.

The northern ones drop golds (fairly certain that every chest can) but I'm also fairly sure that they don't drop with max stats.

yeah, in the southern shiverpeaks, the chests are "shiverpeak chest" rather than "steel chest"

but for instance frozen forest there is a fair few chests spawn in one run some need mursaat and jade armours and others near dwarves so might be a good run.

well about shiverpeaks chest:
i'm 99,9% sure about that fact aswell, that chests that have a worth of 600g+ for the keys don't drop req8's anymore...

only "canthan" "elonian" and "kournan" have the chance I think...

Short update on this: I have been very lazy about this and havn't played GW very much at all even if the time was there. I only checked a bit of Skyward Reach for now because I remembered some chest spawns back from when I farmed hydras there. There seem to be a few spawns between Augury Rock and Destiny's Gorge. I still have to check how consistent they are and how much time it takes (atm. I expect it is better to just check the chest close to Destiny's Gorge).

//another update: The wiki states that only canthan chests can drop max stats items, elonian chest cannot. Before investing a lot of time into this: can anyone confirm/refute this?

short questions. I'm a bit confused atm... i just got a non max purple staff from a locked chest in boreas seabed in hard mode... think this is the first time i got a non max weapon from a locked chest and i thought it wont be possible.. so.. is this meant to happen? xD

yes, non-max purple items come out of hm locked chests all the time (I have had PLENTY of them)...so yes, it happens a lot...too often.

Recommendations for hero builds? Or if anyone has hero templates they could post that would be great! xD

You don't really need specific builds on hero's... but I'd recommend some skills you can put on nearly every hero:

Paragon or Paragon 2nd:
Fall Back!
Can't Touch This
Incoming![E]
Never give up!
Never surrender!
Godspeed

Also for Warrior:
Charge!
Watch yourself!

then some rezz
and some monk / rit / any heal...

makes pretty much every run easy.

Variety question, if i was looking to farm for shields where would be the best place to chest run, that would give me the largest variety of drops? Or doesnt it matter, the only reason i ask is because ive been doing Pongmei and i seem to be getting the same wands, staves and shield types.

I ask because i have a idea on what collection id like to do, and i just want to farm one area for the time being to maximum my chances.

Hey, depends on which skin you're looking for. Tyrian skins can be drop in Tyria, canthian skins can be drop in Cantha, etc etc.

But, you cant drop all (let's say) canthian skins, in every canthian chests.

You've a "base" of items you can drop in all the chests, and you're some items specific to an area or to a specific foe.

For example, you can't drop an outcast shield in a kurzick chest, it has to be a chest with outcast foes around.

If you don't know which foe drops which skin, you can still use the wiki.

I don't know if i was very clear, if you have any questions, ask

PS : Pongmei is a nice area, the run is easy and fast, you can have plenty of different drops :
the canthian "base" (paper fan, iridescent aegis, ...)
plagueborn skins
luxon skins (colossal pick; jade weapons, ...)
kurizck skins (ornate, gothic weapons, ...)

If you do it in nm, you can drop some req's 8 (gold and max damage)

edit :
one more tip guys, the runes you can drop on one armor depend on which profession you're able to create (same for elite tomes).
Proph : W, Mo, Me, E, N, R
Cantha : W, Mo, Me, E, N, R, A, Rt
Elona : W, Mo, Me, E, N, R, D, P
GWEN : you can drop everything

So, regarding the price of the vigor runes, you've a better drop rate in proph

Years ago i was running Melandru's Hope (Jade-Flats to Lutgardi's). I wanted to get a descent shield (echo or amber). I did get many of these shields (some gothic defenders and very few diamond/iridescent), but never had a really good dual-mod...
I did it in HM (build: SF/AIU/6xoptional skills)

if you are looking for shields only, make sure the mobs surrounding a chest don't drop any kinds of armors (otherswise you'll get tons of armors) and a specific skin (e.g. plagueborn/outcast - except you're hunting a plagueborn or outcast shield

)

Whoah that's a tutorial I did for a French fansite years ago xD

It was to max my lucky title and it's very fast if you have 2 accs : one for chests and one for rezoning (green legend on the map).
