Default Scythe Warrior - I was bored

Looking through my screenshots I found a W/D build that I remember toying with using a sycthe that actually had a decent damage output. The problem is my damage results are a bit off since I didn't have a proper weapon to test it with (pre-order Icy Soulbreaker). Anyway here is the build:

Warrior's Endurance {E}
Protector's Strike
Mystic Sweep
Eremite's Attack
Whirlwind Attack (max rank)
Aura of Holy Might (rank 4)
-Optional-
-Optional-

Scythe: 12
Strength: 12 + 1 (too lazy to get a +2 helm)

In testing I could achieve 12,194 damage against the Master of Damage over 180 seconds which averaged out to 67 damage per second. Do note that the pre-order scythe has an Icy mod which adds nothing to the damage output, and has a +15% while enchanted mod. Even if it was still only a second that Aura of Holy Might was down it still contributes to the overall damage. At rank 4 kurzick, Aura of Holy Might adds +24% more damage. It can go as high as +32%.

I compare the damage to a fairly basic Dragonslash build:

For Great Justice!
Frenzy
Dragon Slash {E}
Standing Slash
Sun and Moon Slash
-Optional-
-Optional-
-Optional-

Sword Mastery: 12 + 1 + 1
Strength: 12 + 1

180 seconds got me 12,802 damage for an average of 71 damage per second using a 15^50 3:1 vampiric sword. Granted there are a number of factors at play here depending on the type of Dragon Slash warrior you play. My strength was 13, this will vary depending on what you put in those optional slots if they require any attribute points IE conjures. A lower strength would mean if you're using Flail you would have to use it more often resulting in a slightly lower damage output. I just went with Frenzy for testing to maintain a constant IAS without drawing adrenaline from the other pools. Some warriors will use Enduring Harmony for 10 more seconds of Dragon Slash goodness. Other warriors will play with 16 sword, I tested with 14.

Best damage in a single second favored the Scythe build. The Dragon Slash bar manages to achieve 180 damage in a single second whereas the Scythe bar hit for 260.

Let's go over some other factors.

Multiple enemies is not tested as well against the master of damage since the two targets on his side don't stay alive all the time like he does. The two attacks from scythe mastery never meet their peak of +30 damage due to a lack of targets and enchantments. As already mentioned the weapon mods were not the best possible, and Aura of Holy Might has the potential to add 8% more damage. With enough enemies this bar can power Save Yourselves! quite well. Due to the nature of Protector's/Eremite's/Mystic having 1/2 and 3/4 activation times this bar receives more damage from skills like Order of Pain. Splinter Weapon is also a beast with Scythes.

A few cons to go with it as well. If the enchantment is shattered your damage does hurt quite a bit. Wild Blow or Throw ruins your energy meaning all you can do is auto-attack and Whirlwind Attack when it slowly fills. You also don't get a shield losing upwards of 26 AL and 30 health. Being restricted to the dervish secondary and just one other PvE only skills means you lose a lot of utility. Rending Touch is the only really useful skill available and you can't risk losing your aura. You also can't prema-KD an enemy like a Dragon Slash bar can with Brawling Headbutt and Steelfang Slash.

Anyway I thought I would post this as an alternative to anyone out there who is a little bored of Dragon Slashing but doesn't want to lose too much of that wonderful damage.

Seems very interesting, I'll make sure to try this out later today (studying first ).

EDIT: Finally got to trying out your build. I ended up testing it while vanquishing Poisoned Outcrops (holy damage > undead mobs) and it went so good that I'll probably end up vanquishing every desolation area with this build . Whirlwind attack + scythe + splinter, against undead mobs is pretty win. It barely took 31 minutes

*continues to drool at the pretty yellow numbers flying across the screen*

If my facts are right, then there's one reason i'd hate to use a scythe in any high-end areas: the higher level an enemy is, the less chance you'll have to crit hit....that means your damage could be decreased very much depending on the enemy. I've been using a scythe recently in the snowman dungeon though.....with splinter weapon it dominates.

....and scythes look way cooler than gw's junk sword designs

should be a pvp build somewhere, W/D using steady stance and 12 scythe master, decent pressure think vD used something like that in an edenial build with panic

In PvE I use a scythe on my warrior quite a bit, the build I generally use is quite like yours. Something like this:

Attributes:
Scythe - 12
Strength - 16 (I have a set of armour just for it)

Skills:
[skill]Warrior's Endurance[/skill]
[skill]Counterattack[/skill]
[skill]Power Attack[/skill]
[skill]Victorious Sweep[/skill]
****Whirlwind Attack****
****Aura of Holy Might****
[skill]Lion's Comfort[/skill]
[skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

Not having a zealous scythe (its just a 15^50 collectors scythe that I cant be bothered to upgrade) Counterattack adds some extra energy management as well as some lovely damage at 16 strength. Power Attack gets some stick but at 16 strength it does +42 damage to up to 3 foes every 3 seconds, nice. Victorious Sweep foe some damage and heal.
Whirlwind Attack for extra AoE, I'm not sure a scythe build needs it so I might replace it with Body Blow for another +42. Aura of Holy Might for extra scythe damage. Lion's for heal but you could sub it out if you think Victorious is enough.
I'm not sure if the DpS would be as much as yours due to the slow attack speed but I have yet to try it on the master of damage.

One of the reasons the OP's build is so powerful is that despite the lack of an IAS it has THREE 3/4 activation attacks. While your build offers the same (or higher) numbers, they pop up much more slowly.

If you're using DW on a PvE DSlash bar, you're missing out on some very valuable skills.

how so? deepwound is one of the best skills a warrior can use.
you can have a short chain sever>gash>dragonslash

open 4 other skill slots besides a rez you can easily spam and fit SY in there.

DW is ~100 dmg. Once applied, reapplying it deals no extra dmg. Hence it's pretty useless on a dslash bar, when you're spamming skills. Not to mention that not a lot of things in more difficult areas bleed, making Sever+Gash useless.

Areas in what game? XD maybe in GWEN but most other areas have fleshy monsters.

And chicken i'm guess you'd be smart enough not to spam DW on the same target right?

Of course, but Brawling Headbutt/Steelfang Slash/other skills make much more sense on a dslash bar.

If you got this relatively close to a Dslasher with FGJ!, it's time for me to buy a scythe and goof off!

sever> gash> dragon slash is much weaker then brawling headbutt > steelfang slash > dragon slash. Sure you miss out on DW, but you now have a chain of indefinite knockdown, adrenaline and a load of damage.

[card]Enduring Harmony[/card][card]"For Great Justice"[/card][card]Enraging Charge[/card][card]Dragon Slash[/card][wiki]Brawling Headbutt[/wiki][card]Steelfang Slash[/card][wiki]Save Yourselves![/wiki][card]Flail[/card]

OK, so you want to drop 2 skills for a DW. FGJ, DS, SY are essential core skills, Flail is to boost the damage by a fair bit by getting more DSlashes in, so you can't drop that, BH/SS is good for permanent KD again annoying foes, and EH gives you another 10 seconds of DSlash - equivalent to a crapload of damage.

What's there to drop thats worthwhile enough for a one shot 100 damage?

If you really, really needed a DW on your bar, I can happily lose Enduring Harmony for "Finish Him!". However, the times when I consider that killing spike more powerful than another 10 seconds of rampaging are few and far between.

Could you potentially run Save Yourselves! on this build?

... Yup, that's enough justification to be able to run "SY!" Even better, you're hitting multiple enemies with a simulated IAS.

...

...

... Ok, yeah. I've run "SY!" on an ele before. Shoot me

Fair enough, fair enough...I've been bored of Dslashing lately, so this should be fun!
