If he keeps SY up all the time and people still dies, it's not his fault now is it? He did his part.

He could have overaggroed or overextended, but that probably wouldn't have broken the team. Then again, it's hard to factor everything in and how bad the rest of the team is.

I guess you missed the two years before Ursan when no one ran anything but obs tanks and nukers.
EDIT: That was directed at Nainoa, anyone who thinks aggro cannot be held in Guild Wars doesn't understand basic game mechanics.

There actually was a way to hold agro, and an easy one at that. All you had to do was be the first one to agro while holding an item, and all the foes would stick to you like glue. Bad PuGs wouldn't allow warriors to join without lame tanking builds designed to sit like a rock soaking up damage while holding some item instead of their weapons.

Just because I can't force a mob to focus on me by using a *skill* doesn't mean that I can't attract/grab/hold aggro.
In GW it isn't as simple as clicking a skill to attract/grab/hold aggro, you have to actually use a combination of techniques. Bodyblocking works, as does tagging a mob with a KD or a snare.
With bodyblocking, you can't just get in the mob's way for a second, you have to get in their face and stay there; after a couple of seconds, the AI determines that the easiest way around the wall (whoever is pulling the bodyblock) is to break it down... congrats! You have just attracted, grabbed, and held aggro!
With a KD or a snare, the AI pretty much immediately categorizes the offending user as 'annoying public enemy number 1', and whoever you snared or KD'd decides to give you a little present for pissing them off.
As far as having a Warrior (or whoever is decided is going to tank) go and grab aggro while the squishies wait in a secret, undisclosed, nearby-but-not-in-aggro-range location, you don't have to be half the zone away, just outside of the tank/aggro-target's range.
Also, no matter how good a single player is at attracting/grabbing/holding aggro, all it takes is *1* player to completely destroy the setup. One AoE can cause a carefully laid trap to instantly dissolve, leaving mobs running wild, humping squishies' legs, and being a general nuisance.
Case in point, learn how to control/mitigate aggro and find some friends to play with who won't completely FUBAR your prep, and you're good...

For OP regarding your weapon mods:
Vamp > Zealous > Elemental > everything else.
These 3 mods guarantee effectiveness 100%. For others, every 5 swings, you'll gain one extra adrenaline, armor penetration, whatever. Wasteful.
This makes the above mentioned ones cheap since the ignorant don't get it.
Sucking 3 health every swing looks very good when it's AoE damage [yay axe]
Zealous is great. A single e. skill on a warrior bar can help deal with adrenal cannibalism. [each adrenal skill eats from your pool, draining each other] For me, it's either Cyclone Axe, Triple Chop, or if PvP [yeah right...] Swift Chop/Bull Strike. Your E. Pool is eaten not so much since Zealous adds energy every time and you're not supposed to have like 5 e. skills.
Fighting High AL foes, Chor's Axe, or any ele mod is good. [though personally, I may just use Barbs/Weaken Armor to buff the damage some more ^_^]
20% of anything is stupid. You need to swing 5 times and waste ~5s. on average [assuming not hammer] to get a meager benefit. More adrenaline? Armor penetration? That's +15 dmg with a vamp axe and 15 more health in your favor... Net damage difference of 30 in 5 seconds. No Armor penetration is worth that every 5 seconds... [except maybe penetrating chop, maybe]

In PvP, it's worth switching to (apart from on weapons with lower damage like sword) for more spike damage. The extra damage could always score a kill.
